I know this doesn't have alot do do with hockey but has anybody else seen the advertisement on page 6 of the first section of the GF herald? There is about a half page ad that looks somewhat like this rough sketch (picture of a penny) Lincoln (picture of a nickel) Jefferson (picture of a dime) Roosevelt (picture of a quarter) Washington then it has a coin that says "Thank You Ralph" across the top with his face on it and then Ralph Engelstad 1950-2002 and $10 on it. And beside that it says Ralph? I don't know if it is some collectible coin coming out or propoganda by one of the many UND Organizations that don't like him or what? There is no info at all in the advertisement. Just wondering if any of you guys know what it is about.

Although this is different than the Brandt case because obviously if they would have had to be in the bar to get cited where as there could have been the possibility of Jake being innocent I know Blais said he was going to wait until after the court date to punish Jake. I am sure something will be figured out though so it works out well for the Minny series

What really made me think was there first court appearance is Nov 5. I don't know if something like this would be handled in one court appearance or not(I am sure the lawyers on the board could help) but if it is just one appearance and they are suspended it would probably be for the Minny series. Not a good deal. That would be a big setback to the team if that is how it played out

I am going to try and make some type of t-shirt for the gophers series and was looking for the "definition" that REA had 2 years ago for the gopher series. I know it had something along the lines of "gopher- n. - small rodent like creature with poor eyesight....." if anybody remebers it please help out. Any gophers logos you have would help me out thanks.

Poll UND is now rated #4 behind Minnesota. I think even if we take only 1 from BC we may move ahead on the rodents

I heard now that the students have season tickets there was going to be tailgating going on at Engelstad. I wondered if anybody else has heard about this or whats going on.

I saw that the guy in front of me last night had one but that is the first time I have seen one. I think they are ugly. Its the wrong color green. And it doesn't look good with the new logo it is all too dark.

When I took a tour of Engelstad last spring our tour guide told us there would be nets this year. He may have just meant they will have them on hand but only for NHL games but i would assume within the next year they will be mandated by the NCAA.

I am aware that Jeff Brandt went to minot but she specificaly said jake the goalie for the Sioux not a basketball player but she could be wrong. Who knows.

I don't know if it is true or not but I heard from a former womens hockey player that Brandt left UND to go to Minot State. If this is true we would be left with 2 freshman goalies unless Ranfranz comes back. That would put huge pressure on them and we might be in the same boat as last year, good offense and Defense but not much for goalies.

I thought of what you thought of MinnesotaNorthStar, but i knew they would never put that much work into it. But I wonder if they might have a record of it with the ID swiping. that would be a pretty good way of doing it if it would have been thought of last year. It would help me a lot because I think I had a seat saved for me 1 game. Otherwise I was there early every game and earned my seats. Not like half the people in front of me who had their seats saved by some one. I get annoyed when people run and save like 10 seats and then their friends don't come until 7. If they are saving seats for friends that were in line with them fine. A couple of my friends called REA and they said REA is going to pick a day and tickets are going to be on a first come first serve basis. So i suppose you have to try and get your whole group together at one time if you want to sit together. It is going to be stupid but if you are willing to wait a bit you should still get decent seats. I am also wondering how they are going to do this next year. If they keep assigned seats will we have to wait in line for our seats again or be able to reorder them?

I don't have a problem with assigned seats at all. If thats what needs to happen to keep a bunch of idiots from standing thats fine but what i do have a problem with is people who go to the game to socialize or show up at 7:00 because it is too cold getting better seats than me when I waited for my good seats thats all I want it a reasonable way to assign the seats. I can guarantee the regular public would be mad if REA said "You know what even though you gave $10000 just to get the opportunity to buy those seats we are going to put every seat in a lottery and thats how you guys will sit." It isn't a great example but it gives some people the idea of whats going on.

I am wondering if anybody knows what exactly is going on with the student tickets in the lower bowl. I know they are going to be assigned but i am wondering how are they going to be assigned? I have heard that everybody is going to go into a lottery and that is how they are going to be placed but what about being able to sit with your friends? I also understood that it is going to be all students put into this lottery so me who was at every game last year at 4:30 or 5 could possibly get worse seats than a fan who went to everyother game and sat in the upper deck. If this is the case I think this is the stupidest idea REA has thought of. I expect to get seats near where I sat last year. I don't think it is too much to ask. I was usually in the first 8-10 rows and recognized the people that were there early every game. There are alot of die hard Sioux fans out there and we better not get screwed over by REA. If anybody can tell me more I would appreciate it.

I agree with mksioux the students would be satisfied with the equal number of seats in the lower bowl and it would be an even greater plus if the students got to sit in the opposite corner where we shoot twice. And as he points out i am willing to bet anybody who went to the games over christmas would say they lacked the environment. Could this be because the students weren't there? I think so, the rest of the arena has a right to see the game and the students have the right to stand. So why not make an equal comprimise? Not a comprimise with money involved.

Well Teamsioux I would have to say the students cheering 10% of the time helps the team alot more than the rest of the arenas sitting. Ask any of the players I guarantee they like the students cheering. Blais has said it himself. Oh yeah one last thing when was the last time anybody other than a student started a chant that got the whole crowd going?

The bottom line is REA is going to do whatever they want to make more money and UND isn't going to do a thing about it because they are after the $. They are not there to please the students. This is no longer the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux it is the Grand Forks Fighting Sioux. But remember there would be no hockey team if there were no students.
