  1. Well here we are back to STATE CHAMPIONSHIP game day for Calss AA.

Devils Lake vs Fargo Shanley up at 5:00

This is Devils Lakes last year in Class AA, and next near will be back to AAA, to play against the GF, Bismarck and larger Fargo schools.

My opinion is, they are too small of a school to playy AAA. Any other opinions?

Don't worry, they'll only be there for a couple years then we'll reshuffle...................again. NDHSAA really needs to explain why we have 3 classes of 11 man football in ND. Makes no sense.

  2. Hunting opener and high schools playoffs took a big toll on our attendance last week. Plus SIU has been uncharacteristically bad this year. But the question was who I look forward to watching NDSU play and unless the SIU program goes off a cliff they are definitely a game of interest.

Clearly stated and now understood. Good point.

  3. Coach, what are you doing? Don't you know that it's not fair to use facts when NDSU fans are trying to spread their agenda?

I should have known but it was early in the morning and the guy is just a complete dumb***. If I'd had one more coffee before I read the post, I'd have let it go. Sorry. :D

  4. Besides the teams you mentioned...Oakland(probably more than ORU) and IUPUI for the Summit. SIU and YSU in the MVFC.

You had SIU last weekend and there were an awful lot of empty seats in the building. You sure thats one you want to commit to your list?

  5. Another kid that apparently hasn't heard the UND to the Big Sky announcement. He signed with NDSU yesterday.

First, he verballed to you in Sept. so its not a surprise to those of us who know bball that he signed with you.

Second, you're a dope. Go spread your venom somewhere where it will be found entertaining.

  6. I was really hoping that they'd drop that. Hopefully it will help the Sioux men be more competitive and win some games. Defense needs to step up though......

Coaches must like their athleticism more this year than in the past. The Princeton style was done to hide weaknesses. Must feel like this group has more talent. Hope he's right cause the clock is ticking on whether this job is his long-term

  7. Really? $15 is absurd to you?

I thought Sioux Football was a steal!!

$15 to watch LaMar? That's absurd. $15 to play Sioux Falls, even more absurd.

I think my big thing is just that we aren't playing for anything. In sept. when the weather is still nice, I wanna play golf on Sat. That may change when we're playing Big Sky games but for now, it doesn't make me want to go.

  8. How can you explain the drop in attendance at UND Football games this year. There was what 6800 at the game today. It looked like there was about half that in there. The same can be said for SU the reports said about 12800 at the Dome. On TV it looked like 8000 in there. And they are in the playoff hunt . It's not the economy all of ND is in good shape. As people have said Grand Forks is a hockey town. The number of Sioux hockey jerseys you see in GF on game day is impressive. Me being a football basketball guy wish there was more support for those sports but what can you do. Better days are ahead let's hope.

Simple answer; we aren't playing for anything. Once we're in Big Sky and playing the same teams year after year and competing for conference titles and national tournament games, people will come back. What they're asking for tickets to these useless games is absurd. Deer opener and 60 degrees today. Why go watch indoor football that means nothing.

  9. Shawn-O, let's be fair. First, Wyo was clearly stating he understands that UND did the only logical thing. And yes, NDSU would have done the same thing years ago if offered. He never said anything to the contrary.

However, the idea that what happened is a good thing for UND? My goodness; UND is now on a conference island and will have very limited exposure in MN and WI. That is going to be a huge challenge. Games against Montana schools will be cool and draw fans, but that is about it.

I would recommend that you go to some of the athletic websites in the big Sky, specifically Montana and Montana St., and see the number of Minn. kids playing football and basketball out there. I think you'll be surprised by the number. Good players recognize the Big Sky as a legit conference and we'll be taken seriously wherever we recruit.

It is too bad we were the only school in the Dakota's to go to the Big Sky. It would have been nice to have a "natural" rival in the conference with us. That being said, we did what was best for our athletic program. As far as I know, there was no offer from the Missouri Valley for us regarding football. We'll get used to the league quickly and new rivalries will come. UND will be fine.

  10. I was a detractor of Landry early in the season, praised him later and had mixed feelings the remainder of the time. Regardless, he gave it his all. Thanks Jake.

Always good to see a local kid wear the Green and Black. Jake wasn't perfect but no one will question his effort or loyalty to UND. Best wishes to Jake and thanks for giving us your best for 5 years!!

  11. Well, as of right now if I count correctly he is 14 - 14 as a head coach. He was touted as an offensive genius when he got the head coaching job. Well, the offense has not been very good this year and there have been no signature wins and only a few moral victories. I think the jury is still out and you have to give him at least one more year. I can handle losing, I can't handle getting embarassed or not being competitive. There have been several games and halves this year where I think the team just missed the game bus. Maybe some staff changes are in order. I have cancelled trips to both home and away games due to their weak performances. I would like to say next year that I will be there, but not if this continues.

There will be NO moral victories or signature wins until we are in a conference, playing for playoff berths, and possibly national title berths again. You will NOT find a coach when you have those strikes currently against you. Coach has been here long enough to run this thing out and see where we are in a couple years. He was the O-Coordinator on the National Title team so he must know a little about football. Change just to change doesn't work so let him alone and lets pull for the Big Sky to come up with an invitation this week.

  12. I know, it would have been about a 40 yarder...a Big Ten kicker should make that and make this a 1 possesion game

Anyone want to start the pool on when Brewster is fired and who the next head coach will be?

My guess is Monday, 9/13 and Mike Leach :)

  13. Did anyone watch the UND vs. Idaho football game on the new Midcontinent Channel? I tried watching it in Williston and the feed was horrible. It was all pixelated and you couldn't hear a thing. I am hoping that they were just picking up a really bad feed of the game. Can anyone let me know if they watched it and how it was for them.

I am hoping to see the same quality feed for the hockey games that we have seen in the past or else I am going to have to switch to Direct TV. Any thoughts?

The feed in GF was very good. Other watching our team display its lack of talent compared to Idaho, the reception was very good.

  14. Two points:

1 - if the WAC does come calling to the state of North Dakota, I do think they will invite both NDSU and UND -- it's going to take a complete collapse to get to this point (BYU does not join WAC, Utah State leaves, Hawaii goes independent, La Tech leaves at a minimum and New Mexico State might have to leave too...)

2 - if the WAC does invite NDSU and UND - depending on who is going to be in the new conference... I think both school should try to make it work. With the NCAA likely to make new rules requiring that to move up to FBS you have to be invited from an established FBS conference (or maybe this is already confirmed?) it could be at least a generation before either school gets another chance to move up to the bowl level. When opportunities like that come by, you either jump on the train or watch it pass you by...

You and I don't agree very often but, today, we are on the same page.

  15. Here is an example of what the national sports media is thinking about the WAC......not a conference I would want NDSU associated with.......

    My link

While the article certainly doesn't make the WAC look very enticing today, we have to ask ourselves where we see this whole thing going in 5 years or so. DI athletics is going to change. This summer was the firing of the first shot but changes are coming. Why wouldn't we look at being a part of a 16 team conference with schools from Montana, Utah, Cal., etc.? I realize that NDSU is in a better place today than UND but from a financial perspective, how much more would have to be raised? Both schools have facilities that are looking to be renovated or built anyway, just build them a little bigger. Whats 20 more scholarships for football? Its not like either school is having trouble finding players and our recruiting has already stretched in to Calif. and Ariz. NDSU is very active in Texas already so whats the big deal.

7 years ago NDSU made the leap and UND didn't. We didn't and today, we're paying for our short-sightedness and narrow-minded thinking. Do we want to make that same mistake again now? Especially when we have no real conference and absolutely no rivalry games on our schedule. If the WAC came to UND, NDSU, SDSU, and USD and said they would put us in a conference along with Montana, Mont. St., and whoever else would we really be telling ourselves not to make that jump? C'mon folks, this could be the answer to all our problems!!!!! :)

  16. At times, I may just stir the pot a little. But, hey, they need help recognizing their insecurities. :D

Just providing a public service. ;)

BTW, IMHO the time is fast approaching that UND and NDSU need to be partner as prospective FBS schools to gain WAC admission. If or when Montana gets in, Montana State would likely close follow. Once that happens, North Dakota schools could come into play. If UND can continue to build up its facilities (new parking garage to allow building track/soccer field, upgraded Memorial), and it's TV broadcasting capability (expand relationship with FCS, move into Canadian systems, HD, etc), it would be better set than most existing WAC schools. I also think that NDSU needs to relook at whom it is competing with academically: SDSU is attracting many Minnesota students and is practically a duplication of NDSU academics. For the betterment of the state of ND, athletic cooperation between UND and NDSU should be pursued to bring both to FBS.

Totally agree. If we're gonna do this DI B.S., lets do it all the way. When the 4 Super conferences their ducks in a row, their will be big conference's that need teams. Think anyone is going to want Iowa St.? C'mon.....................I believe we can do better than the the FCS portion of DI athletics

  17. Just what we need another guard, NOT. We have 2 new point guards coming in this year and if he is added that is 3 point guards next year and several combo guards that can also run point. Why not recruit some dominant big men for a change?

"Dominant" big men don't come to small DI schools with no chance of playing in the tourney.
