  1. Since the teams have only played a couple double-headers thus far, the better women's attendance seems to stand on its own. I think in recent seasons the men have been the beneficiaries of the double-headers as a lot of fans left after the women's game during the last few years of NCC play and DI transition years.................

I don't think doubleheaders count towards attendance figures. If it does you'd have to count the same number for both teams. We don't resell tickets between games.

  2. New Voice For Sioux Football

    I'd love to do it.......................

But my guess is it will be Paul Ralston.................

Paul Ralston would be a terrible choice. His work on Sioux bball is sooooooooooooooo bad. Can't listen to him cause he doesn't know names (or forgets them) and the play is over way before he's done talking.

Gotta go get someone new; fresh voice for a new league!!! :)

  3. I would assume that the Sioux are looking to get bigger and faster. I don't think Farroh is fast enough to play at the level Roebuck wants to play. She is probably strong enough, but honestly, I question if she can play the spot like Madi Buck or Corey Lof, and I would rather have Houdek and Wall.

I would bet they use Shyla Kuehl's scholarship to get a Youngblunt type of player with a quick first step, someone who is game ready whether that is a JuCo player or not, I don't know. It was obvious when they played Gonzaga that they needed some depth at the 4 spot to match up with the best teams in the nation. Since then they have pulled the redshirt on Buck, and they need one more player.

Farroh is a true 5 in H.S. For her to transition to playing a 4 in college would take a few years. She doesn't run well enough, put the ball on the floor, or shoot the ball from 17-20 ft. to be a 4 in UND's 4 out offense.

That being said, she is better than Houdek was at this age, she is waaaaaaaaaay better than Evers was at ANY age, and I believe she is better than the Warmack girl from EGF who is playing at Bemidji St.

Sometimes though, a person just has to appreciate a kid for being a very good, excellent, high school player who may not be a DI player because there are certain physical skills they maybe don't have. 1000 pt./rebounds for her career are amazing numbers and a testament to how hard she works and plays every night. For me that's good enough regardless of what she does after high school. Young bball players in this community can learn a lot from watching her play. She does it the right way!!!

  4. This is just another example of the wacky ego of Gerry Groenewold at work. The representatives didn't come up with this on their own.

Totally agree!! No way a legislator from Tioga or Dickinson know the first thing about this plot of land without someone (Gerry G.) influencing whats going on. Gerry G. believes he's the best thing for UND, regardless of what Dr. Kelley and the Mr. Goetz think. For him to say he knew nothing about this bill is ludicrous.

  5. I believe the potential title of Senator will trump potential title of Governor.

He, IMO, would win either race...a senate seat will be too tough to pass up.

I too believe he'll run for Gov. Mr. Wrigley has no political experience to speak of so U.S. Senate would be a reach.

    How about Wayne Stenehjem?

  6. If its not too cold out and if the city of Fargo is not underwater I may have to go to the April 2nd doubleheader with the family.

Have a hard time believing we'll be playing outdoor baseball in this area on April 2nd. Gotta melt 20 ft. of snow, get the river below flood stage, and have temps. in the mid 40's minimum to play? Good luck with that. Glad they're trying to play though.

  7. What's next?

No drinking in the presence of a minor in your own home?

    What a slippery slope.

One of the first things I remember learning was to think before I spoke. In this case, these 3 people forgot to think before they wrote/typed.

Its a great point!!! This is a "local control" issue and not for the state legislators to stick their noses in. I do not for one minute believe this bill will pass and become law. I swear there are days where I feel like living in this state borders on living anywhere in the 1930's. Ridiculous.

  8. That's true, but all the Dakotas had larger crowds back when they were D-II powerhouses. While football numbers have increased with the move to D-I, we are not anywhere near historic numbers in men's basketball.

    Men's Basketball Attendance

    North Dakota

    2009-10 – 1,919

    2008-09 – 1,623

    1991-92 – 4,943 (Div. II champions)

    North Dakota State

    1986-87 – 4,820 (Div. II champions)

    1982-83 – 6,057 (Div. II champions)

    1981-82 – 4,385 (Div. II champions)

    1980-81 – 5,308 (Div. II champions)

    South Dakota

    1993-94 – 4,852 (Div. II champions)

    South Dakota State

    2003-04 – 3,375 (Div. II champions)

    2001-02 – 4,449 (Div. II champions)

    1999-2000 – 4,077 (Div. II champions)

    1997-98 – 5,350 (Div. II champions)

    1996-97 – 4,423 (Div. II champions)

    1995-96 – 4,945 (Div. II champions)

Does the term "Div. II champions" mean champions in attendance? No titles for any of those teams. That 91-92 Sioux team was good, but didn't win it all.

  9. As if anyone needed ANOTHER reason to make fun of this gopher team, check this video out, I almost feel sorry for them...(seriously)

You've got to be kidding me!

That is as embarrassing as any video I've ever seen. Gay is not acceptable in society so I won't use the term but embarrassing is acceptable and I'm going with that term instead.

  10. In DI basketball whenever someone is giving any scholarship money it counts as a full scholarship against the team. So unless UND is being cheap, he is probably getting all or nothing.

It has to be nothing. No way UND coaches would give him scholarship money. Prior to coming to UND he wouldn't have earned a scholly and he has done nothing in his time at UND to earn a scholly. It is my opinion that he is still a walk-on.

  11. Excuse me for butting in here, but Mathiason was never a big recruit. He never put up numbers for North Border and was a project for you guys from the get-go. I don't even think he's on scholarship, is he?

Exactly right. Mathison walked on to the program. No one ever had the expectation that he would become a player. Those of us who saw him HS figured he'd be gone from the program by now. Can't throw Jones under the bus for Mathison as a recruited player.

  12. NDSU won their NCAA regional in 2009 and finished in the final top 25 and also made the NCAA tourney last year. NDSU does play softball games in the FargoDome- so they could probably do it at the Alerus unless the roof is too low.

Not the way we hit. :)

  13. You're basing most of your list on 2 schools, UM and MSU, who might not be there in a few years.

The President of UM said they weren't going anywhere. If and when those 2 decide to leave, maybe to a FBS conference, UND is now in a position to go with them. There is a lot going on the West and now we can potentially be a player. I'm excited for the opportunity UND now has playing west of the Mississippi. We need to go get players.

  14. Actually, I would agree with this.....but then again I am from Williston so I have a more western ND perspective on things.

The western perspective makes sense on this argument. Williston has had 2 Mr. Basketball's in the last 6 years (Hennessy and Qvale), both went on to play or are currently playing in the Big Sky. The best in-state player this year is from Dickinson and he's already committed to Boise St. We forget that there are some excellent athletes in this state not from the Valley. Too think the Big Sky Conference is not relevant in the state is narrow-minded.

Oh, by the way, Dickinson St. is applying for membership in which conference? The Frontieer. Most of the schools in that league are in Montana!!!!

  15. My gosh ... you are delusional. Do you even believe half the stuff you post? Why would NDSU want to double it travel and budget? Why would NDSU want to leave a stronger BB conference in the Summit to join the Big Sky? Why would NDSU even consider moving out of Valley Football? Football recruiting, if NDSU joined a western FCS conference would tank in our current recruiting areas. Do you understand any of this?

Bison fans are extremely happy with both of these conference affiliations. You can't possibly be serious or have NDSU's best interest in mind at all. I shouldn't be surprised, your post are basically hypothetical darts thrown to see what will stick. You missed, againnnn.

Stronger how? Both get 1 invite each year. If by stronger you mean equally irrelevant than I agree. ;)

  16. I think we can agree that texting is more difficult than just talking on the phone.

Now, what's more dangerous: talking on the phone or ...

How about trying to eat fast food while driving? I've seen plenty of people trying to work a burger/sandwich and not keep the car real straight. Anything that distracts a person from operating a 3000 lb. piece of equipment while doing 25-40 mph shouldn't be allowed.

  17. Here's men's basketball attendance from the 2009-10 season.

    Weber St.................................................5,310

    Montana St.............................................3,389

    Montana..................................................3,382

    Northern Colorado................................2,292

    Idaho St...................................................2,167

    Southern Utah........................................2,098

    North Dakota..........................................1,919

    Eastern Washington.............................1,564

    Portland St..............................................1,009

    Northern Arizona.................................... 839

    Sacramento St.........................................680

How embarrassing are those numbers. Northern Arizona can't draw better than that? Is there that much going on in Flagstaff that prevents people from going to the games?

  18. I wonder if the rivalry can ever be the same way it used to be. I am sure the fanbase will get reaquainted with the rivalry at some point, but if the players don't have as big of a stake in the rivalry, I wonder if that will deter the fans from getting into it as much as they used to. When the players were bitter rivals it kind of carried over to the fans. With fewer North Dakotans on each team, and really not many of those players knowing about or experiencing the bitterness, I wonder how it can ever be the same. The days of both schools being composed of mostly North Dakotans is over. We are just as likely to have surfer dudes from California who are oblivious to the hatred they should be feeling, as we are to have corn-fed farmer's or rancher's kids who would like nothing more than to knock the snot out of the city boys that are on the opposition. I hope I am wrong and that once it is ongoing again that regardless of where the players are from, it can be imparted to them what it means, and they will respond in kind. But somehow I think the Fire and Ice days of Rocky Hager and Roger Thomas are gone forever, and that is kind of sad. To be honest, I'm not sure if a lot of rivalries are like they were before simply because of apathy, both from the athletes and the fans.

Totally agree, those days of energy leading up to the "big" game are probably over. Hope we stay with it to see if we can bring it back. The lack of ND and NW Minn. kids on either roster changes things.

On the positive side, the Minot St./U. of Mary rivalry should be good again in a couple years when they are back in the same conference. They'll both have a number of ND kids on their rosters. ;)

  19. An average coach wins 63.5% of the games he coaches over 17 years? An average coach has only 4 losing seasons out of those 17? That sounds like a pretty good coach to me. Not Hall of Fame worthy, but certainly better than average.

I agree. Coach Kill is "above" average as a coach and, if the people of Gopher Nation give him a chance, I believe he'll do very well. Maturi is getting killed over this hire because the fans of Gopher football wanted a "big" name to come in and put their football program back on the map, like Tubby is close to doing with the basketball program. Coach Kill doesn't measure up to the hire of Tubby. Not yet anyway.

  20. I hope Horton gets a decent job.

I wonder if Lennon will get any consideration for Kill's old job?

I wonder if Lennon will be considered to be apart of Kill's staff at Minn.? They go back a ways I think.

  21. How did the entire athletic department get so young? Football, mens bb, women's bb, with the exception of perhaps hockey I keep seeing quotes from people inside and out of the athletic department leaning on youth. Someone has to step up right now. I know I have seen programs, even during transition, step up have make plays. Does anyone else have the feeling that there are too many players, not just on the women's team, waiting for someone else to step up and take control. I could also be over reacting, but there's some truth here.

I think we're saying the same thing only in different words. While a majority of our players are young, the vets need to step up and be our best players. Whether its coaching or themselves holding them back, I don't care. Jrs. and Srs. need to play better.

  22. UND 51

    Drake 76

    Final.

I wasn't able to watch the end of the game. But by the look of the score the ladies never came out of their shell. I keep saying it but the talent is in the younger players, they just need to really mature and not look so scared of their opponent.

You know, when a program is struggling we always want to believe that our "young" players are our strength. The truth is, on this team, there is no one more talented than Mallory Youngblut!!! She has got to play better and lead this team with points!! We can't score, she is our most experienced player, she has to be our go-to player!!! Coach said in the paper today that he's not big on change and I agree. Mallory needs to start, play, and finish games for this team!! Sometimes as coaches we can "overcoach." Mallory for right now just needs to be left alone and let her play, in my opinion.
