  1. Should they even allow people to cheer? Wouldn't that make the losing team feel bad? Or should we just quit keeping score? All this PC crap is getting ridiculous...

If "cheering" for your team involves cursing, or using words like "suck", then no....................they shouldn't be allowed to cheer. Also, if that's why kids don't go to games, please. That is a weak, weak reason!!!

  2. If there is no sieving then something is wrong, its a part of the atmosphere of any hockey game, why can't kids just have fun anymore.

Mostly because kids don't know how to have fun. It is a high school hockey game, not college or bigger. Every kid that puts the uniform on needs to be respected at the high school level by all who are in attendance. There is a set of parents in each community that could use the same lesson.

  3. Has anybody had a chance to see any of the region 2 tournament at the Betty? Jenna Gillett's Dakota Prairie team lost last night, but Katie Houdek's Grafton team will be playing for the title. I'm just curious whether anybody has seen either of them play recently.

Saw them both on Monday. Don't see how Gillette can play DI bball. Size isn't there and quickness will be a real issue.

Houdek on the other hand, I believe has a chance to be pretty good. She gets the game and is very athletic; runs real well. She also has one more year of high school plus a redshirt year b/4 she'll ever see the floor. 2 years from now, I can see her making a contribution.

  4. Was there a history when the sitting bull trophy was started?

Contrived is a poor choice of word. I think what he meant was, don't create another traveling trophy. either bring back the old one (Sitting Bull) or don't have one. We know that all trophies have to be created to start the process. Isn't there a Bison board anywhere for you all?

  5. Sometimes it seems being on the top team is a key "unofficial" criterion (see Boese over Quigley), and sometimes it's not (see Quigley over Kimbrough last year). Hard to say how much that will factor into things.

    Agreed!!!!!

  6. Who's the frontrunner? I'm going to say Ashley Langen--16.6 ppg, 13 rpg, 2.2 assists/game (conference-only stats). Kierah Kimbrough is also a strong candidate with 17.9 ppg and 9.2 rpg. The other primary candidate is probably USD's Jeana Hoffman with 17.4 ppg, but she really doesn't have any other stat that jumps out at you.

Except that her team is winning the league. Thursday's game will go along way to settling this arguement. Personally, I like Kimbrough over Langen but it is more of picking the race horse over the Clydesdale (not meant as a slam, just a different kind of animal). Both are great players and both dominate this league right now. Wish they'd be together for that first DI year. Assuming we get some quality teams on the schedule, I'd like to see those 2 play at that level.

  7. You are probably right, I guess USD doesn't have much of a chance in the game on Thursday Night. UND's inside game and rebounding will be too much for the Coyotes to handle. Aside from shooting from outside I can't really think of much else that USD does real well when compared to a team like UND. I would say USD has the advantage with outside shooting and UND has the advantage with every other aspect of the game. I would probably have to predict a 20-30 point win for the Sioux as there is no way that USD can play close to the Sioux for two games in the same year. I would put the odds of a Sioux win somewhere between 95-98%.

UND fans probably know more than anyone about Women's basketball as the tradition is second to none so I will definately hold the opinion of a Sioux fan in high regard when analysing what is likely to happen. I am guessing that USD was probably very lucky to be within 20 points of the Sioux in Grand Forks as they are usually blown out up there. The Yotes must have gotten most of the officials calls and probably a very high amount of good bounces off the rim and deflections that ended up going their way. That and a Sioux team that probably took them for granted for most of the game. I can't really say because I didn't see the game. The UND fans will have to comment on how USD pulled the miracle up there. USD is due for a really poor effort on Thursday because I don't think the shooting can hold up against the kind of defense that will be applied in that game. I would expect the Sioux to really come out strong and motivated to avenge the loss from last month. The physical nature, height, basketball savy, speed, power etc will be on full display from the team in Green. USD fans really don't care much about their Women's team compared to their men. I would expect that USD already has their ticket punched and reservations made at a hotel in Grand Forks for the conference tourney and regional tourney to be up in North Dakota this year like it usually is. The Sioux are always tough at this time of year. They had their one annual bad game and shouldn't have much of a problem running out the string for the rest of the season. I think UND is probably due for another National Title this year. I wish USD could make a run but their program is just not quite good enough to compete on a national level. They are usually good for a regional appearance every now and then but that is about it. Never really much success come post season.

So please tell those players up there to take it easy on the Yotes on Thursday. I don't want to see the game get too far out of hand. Maybe allow USD to stay in it for a half to give our fans some hope before putting on the invasion in the second half. I foresee something like 86-58 North Dakota in a romp after only leading 41-30 at half.

For some reason, this is the kind of sarcasm that I just love. Well done Coyote fan. Good luck to your team on Thursday, it should be a hell of a game!!!

  8. If you recall it all started with speculating where Texas State would go when they move to FBS. 14 members seems big for the Sun Belt. But I think the SB would rather have TSU than Denver.

I was merely pointing out that DU could drop down to DIII and maintain a nationally competitive DI hockey team like CC does. That assumes they would qualify for the play up scholarship exemption that you linked to.

It's always about money. I just don't see how all the travel they do for the Sun Belt is worth being DI.

Their image sport, hockey, is always going to be DI, regardless where the rest of the AD is.

Ladies and Gentleman, the next AD at Denver University, MplsBison. In his interview for the job he showed us the error of our ways in being a DI school. We will now move to DIII in everything and will only scholarship hockey. The rest of our student body that compete athletically for us will have to find their own $27,000 tuition, room and board. I expect to see our enrollment drop by roughly 40% in the next couple years. Thank you for your time!!

  9. True, the record could be better based upon a probably pretty soft schedule. But whether the caliber of play is better is another question.

The only way caliber of play improves is with new players. This group either doesn't get it or can't get it.

And I for one, do NOT want a bunch of transfers from all over the country coming in here and screwing things up any longer!!! Go find 6-8 freshman and teach them the game the way the coaches want the game played. We'll get beat next year but at least we grow an attachment to the team and follow them for 4-5 years.

  10. If you think this move is a great move when it benefits 6 football players, you've become impossible to talk to. At SU this winter, more kids from the state of Michigan benefitted from scholarship money in football than did kids from North Dakota. I understand it is about winning and being the best you can be, just don't lie to me, and to yourself, when you say this move is a "benefit" to football players from North Dakota.

Fewer and fewer football players from the state playing at the state universities. Spin that for me.

  11. So Denver is staying DI in order to have lacrosse compete in the DI national championship?

    Hard to believe that.

I still think they'd be better off in DIII with Colorado College. CC even still has a football team.

As far as UND in the Gateway. NDSU can only control the way NDSU votes. But rest assured that when the time comes NDSU will vote for UND to be in the Gateway. There's no other possible way it can go down.

Having both NDSU and UND in the Gateway gives the most possible opportunities to ND players to play at the highest level of FCS. And it gives the people of ND the most possible opportunities to watch the highest level of FCS and spend money in the state of North Dakota to do so. It also maximizes possible exposure for the state of North Dakota.

There's no possible way you can slice it that having both NDSU and UND in the Gateway wouldn't be best for the state of North Dakota.

And to that end, there's no possible way NDSU will vote against UND joining.

No guarantee on what the rest of the membership votes.

Totally agree with everything said here except the sentence in red. UND signed 4 instate kids and SU signed 2. I know there will some walk-ons put lets not pretend that the high school football players of North Dakota will benefit from this move. In state recruiting is a low priority for both universities, in all major sports, and that trend will only continue. In state players are being recruited hard by U of Mary right now and I believe you'll see that trend continue also. Which is OK by me. Bismarck is a great town.

  12. I listened to the game from the

Augie Station and the announcers commented the second half as to why Coach Roebuck does not play Jossy more to start the games they thought she was the key to the Sioux come back in the first half. She shut down there best player from the 9 min mark to end the half. She definently has alot of energy for this team and hardly ever turns the ball over. I think we are going to need that energy right away when we get into the end of the year and have all these tight games. I would hope that coach Roebuck could figure it out .

Well, if you think you have it figured out, I'm pretty sure they guy with over 500 wins and 3 rings will figure out what is best for this group; unless you're John Wooden, which would make you qualified to tell Roebuck who should and shouldn't play.

  13. Obviously the Sun Belt has to be their short term target.

But does the SB add TSU and go to 14 members or do they add TSU and kick 2 schools out?

I don't think any of the current schools would mind seeing Denver go. I bet even Denver wants to leave.

On a side note, I have no idea what's keeping Denver in DI. Men's hockey is their sport. After that, pretty much nothing.

Why not go DIII and play up in men's and women's hockey?

Why not go to a Denver message board and ask them? ???

  14. It's amusing that SDSU can put together schedules for '08 (iowa state, cal poly, mcneese) and '09 (georgia southern, cal poly, Minnesota in the new stadium) that are clearly better than what NDSU has on the books in '08 (austin pee, central conn) and '09 (iowa state) yet somehow UND won't manage.

That's because everyone of these Bison guys who troll here feel that UND isn't smart enough to make the transition like they did. Haven't you heard, we're the school with majors in Ag!!!! The Med school, law school, aerospace studies, etc. will all have to be moved to Fargo where the really smart people live and go to school. :silly:

  15. Lets put it this way our schedule is and will always be better than anything UND can put together in the next 5 years. Look at your schedule today - were's it at? Who's putting it together?

Our schedule is in the same place yours was 5 years ago. To say yours will ALWAYS be better is stupid. You have no idea where our program will be in 5 years. Go away!!!

  16. At the risk of beating a dead horse, our administration made the decision that head coaching experience wasn't nearly as important as having NCAA experience. That resulted in the elimination of nearly every candidate who actually had head coaching experience. Of the four finalists, I believe the only head coaching experience was Weemer's one year at the high school level. Sometimes hiring a coach with no previous head coaching experience works well, e.g. Hakstol. Sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully Jones will start getting things moving in the right direction next year. But obviously it won't be easy, and there's a long, long ways to go.

Here's a semi-interesting statistic: over Rich Glas's final two years, UND won a total of 10 NCC games.

Through Brian Jones' first slightly more than one and a half seasons, UND has won four NCC games (with five left to play).

Look at the rosters, not much has changed. They couldn't play as freshman and sophs. and they can't play now.

Plus, there is no guarantee this team will win another game.

  17. Don't forget, we won the DAC in the preseason. :)

The problems with this team are endless. First, the only head coaching experience our head coach has is what he's done right here!! Never been a head coach before so he has to learn as he goes along. Not sure that is good at this level.

Second, team can't shoot a lick. Great athletes but no shooters and it is empasized by our opponents. The NCC has always been a team of big "cornfed" posts and shooters. Look back at some of the best teams this league has had and you'll find this out.

The good news? As I watched the game on TV the other night, I couldn't find 20 people under the age of 60 at the game. By my estimates, in another 15 years no one will even know this program exists. :D

  18. There won't be many NSIC teams for either the men or the ladies to play- the reason being that the NSIC will be so large next season that they will have a 20 to 22 game conference schedule leaving roughly 6 to 7 games for non-confence. My understanding is that most of these (NSIC) schools will choose to play a few NAIA opponent to gear up for the long conference and a few intra- regional games to match up against another conference within their region- to try to promote strength of conference when comes time to make the regional (just as we do with playing NSIC and RMAC schools now). I would be really surprised if we see many, if any, NSIC teams on our schedule. I think our home games will consist of NAIA schools and on we'll be road against alot of D1's nobody's heard of.

Totally agree. Maybe we can get the Bison back on the schedule for both men and women...............we'll go there, won't we!!!!!

  19. NDSU, in their first year of this DI move, went like 25-1. They played no one of any substance and I would imagine UND will have a schedule that is similar to what SU had in their first year. Don't think a guy would need to spend money on season tickets for the next couple years.
