  1. With Privatsky out, I have a feeling Jossy Bergan playing as many as 39 minutes in a game, as she did against USD, will now be the norm. She certainly had a nice game against the Coyotes.

Hope you're wrong but who else can play there? They could move Guinn back there if they had too but they aren't playing for anything but pride so what's the sense in that? Guinn has had a good year on wing. Might see Seay get a few more minutes, she's been pretty quiet the last month.

  2. Unfortunately, that sounds like it is the end of her playing days! Sad deal!

Sad deal, no doubt. She hurt it the first time in Dec. of 07, she's playing on it in October of 08. 9 months seems a little quick for ACL tear. You wonder if she rushed it a little...............won't have to worry about that this time. Good kid, great family, let's hope for the best and that we'll see her in green and white in 2011.

  3. C'mon, there isn't going to be any significant political outcry against NDSU, regardless of what happens in UND's transition.

Most people in the state are happy that NDSU moved up, and are smart enough to realize that UND screwed up in not moving up with them. They are not going to hold NDSU officials responsible for mistakes made in Grand Forks.

If you really want to help UND through it's transition, go to games, donate money, support YOUR shcool. For God's sake shut up about NDSU - you're just going to piss off half the people in the state.

But only half of that half can read.....................so you're really only pissing off 1/4 of the state. ???

  4. I am moving to Minot in the Spring. Any advice you North Dakotan's can give me?

First, get a membership to Minot Country Club. A top 5 golf course in the state. Second, cherish every day you get to play cause their is a limited number. Finally, go south from November 15th to March 15th. Do those 3 things and you'll love living in North Dakota. ???

  5. I almost got banned last week posting in the "How do we get rid of Jake?" thread on panthernation.com....

I love message boards, Jake has won more games in his 1st 2 years at UNI, than any BBall Coach in their History, and they wanted to dump him......If Tim Miles can parlay 2 signature wins into a New Job (Wisconsin/Marquette)..... Watch out what you wish for UNI, maybe Jake will climb a ladder or two...

He has beat this year S.Ill (1st time 11 years), Creighton (1st Time 13 years), Drake (1st time 9 years), all on the road...Got them sitting right now 1st place in the Valley, best start ever at 6-1

We should all be proud of him. I believe he did it the right way. Asst. for many years w/different head coaches. He got to see what works and what doesn't. When it was his time, he had a solid plan in place and went with it. Today's game was a clinic. They won by 25 but it wasn't that close.

  6. I follow Tim allot, he is a good friend...Last year he did not win a conference game in the MWC. This year started off great, had a tough loss in the Timmy vs Tubby showdown, that started a little run of back luck. Just had a "Big" win last week however against UNLV....

I think Tim's situation was a little like Mac's at ISU, program was way down, and that takes time to rebuild, plus I think both of them now realize how much better the talent level is to compete in the upper part of D1 (major conferences)

That will be the hardest job for UND (imo) is getting the players that want to come here....? Check outside lately......?

Anybody watching Jake's group today? Wow. That 1st half was as good a zone offense as I've seen at any level. I know making shots makes it look better, but the execution to get open looks, awesome. Jake wins the MVC this year and he may find himself coaching a Big 12 or Big 10 team next year. Great job today, for sure. :)

  7. If "Wining " was easy why isn't everyone doing it....?

Check Tim Miles last year at NDSU he won over 20 games...Great...70% of those wins came against Teams with losing records....

1 signature win that year was Marquette

Check Coach Miles out right now at Colorado St. Should have taken his big 3 w/him.

  8. Please do cause I haven't seen one show up yet at the Betty.

No one has. I feel totally qualified to comment on bball in the state of ND. Have been around it and coached for many years. When I see good bball at the betty, I'll be the first to let you know. It's not there now. I just don't care at all about what got done 3 years ago by ANY team. Mayville played for a National title 2 years ago.............seen em lately?

Cheer for the Bison, get them to the dance, be happy for your program. Just talk about it somewhere else. Like you said, we got our own problems @ the Betty. Ain't got time to reminise about your boys.

  9. Read my last post above. Agree this a Sioux site but to make light of 2 huge wins, that we probably won't see for 5+ yrs, by another U that was also in transition is bold, brash and maybe a little ignorant. It is what it is. And until our men's BB program resembles a D1 team, I'd keep your stones in your pocket!

Again, whose making "light" of your wins? No one, not my intent. Just DON'T CARE ANYMORE!! If and when we resemble a DI product, I'll get back to you. If you don't like my posts regarding NDSU bball, stop coming here. Its the only place they can be read.

  10. That is pretty bold and brash when you look at the product that UND has put on the court the past couple years.

I don't think its bold at all. I'm not comparing our product to NDSU's in any way shape or form. NDSU is much better than UND right now. I just don't want any one from NDSU coming over here and continually reminding us how you beat Wisconsin and Marquette 2 and 3 years ago. Talk about the past @ Bisonville, not here. UND board, remember!!

  11. I agree. People are sure getting desperate when a win like this gets them excited. Set your standards a little higher people. Sioux basketball fans are excited about a narrow win over Univ of Mary. Bison fans get excited about wins over teams like Marquette and Wisconsin.

Also time for the SU folk to get over the Wisconsin and Marquette wins. It was a while ago and a different guy was leading the pack. Focus on the Summit.

  12. The thing that most amazes me, is that he did it with all Minnesota girls, and no one taller then 5'11"....He must be able to flat out Coach.

Watched Concordia-St. Paul a couple times on FSN. That team was soooooooooo good. That conference had like 6 teams in the top 25 poll at the end of the year. I think we have 3 locals playing at Northern St. What a great DII conference they have lined up right now.

As we can see, everyone's (except UNC who never drew well at all) attendance drops like a rock as the transition begins. And as the transition ends, so far only NDSU and UNC have increased attendance from where they were at the end of their DII days.

Regarding the seemingly current lack of interest in Sioux basketball, I think it will get better quickly. I expect attendance to rise as this season progresses. And then even moreso in the immediate future as fans become more familiar with Great West teams and their is title race to participate in. And hopefully we find a better conference home as the transition ends. Then interest should really rise. That is, if we are competetive.

    Great homework!!! Hope you're right.

  14. That was as frustrating as well as entertaining Basketball I have seen in a while.....

The 1st half for whatever reason (there were many) the Sioux could not get the ball past half court, I did think the refs let a little too much contact on the chest bumping off the oppents dribble (advantage Minot State)

2nd half was very simaler, til about the 10 minute mark, and the the Sioux seemed to get a little bit tougher, stronger, and play with more energy. Never should have gone to OT, but we took care of bussiness and came away with the win in overtime.

I hope Texas A&M and Minot State College do not particapate in a film exchange program, because if A&M presses us, we could be in for a longer the LONG type night...

A Win is a Win, you never throw one back.....Go Sioux

We are leading the DAC at 3-0. Good thing we don't have to play on the road!!!! :)

  15. I'm going to stand by my statement that NDSU MBB attendance will continue to grow over the next few years and only time will prove me right or wrong. I think Matt misunderstood me a bit with my quadruple comment. I said that NDSU's attendance in three years(this one and two more) might quadruple UND's attendance in three years, not that NDSU's attendance in three years might quadruple what it is now. At that time, I can see NDSU's attendance being in the 4100-4600 range with UND's around 1100-1300. I could very well be wrong(a lot can happen in three years), but it's well within the range of possibilities.

While I normally think quite highly of coach daddy's basketball comments, I think he's wrong regarding NDSU's chances beyond this year. While there will be a dropoff, I don't believe it will be the catastrophic one he seems to be predicting. Tonight's game will be quite telling, but, if we win, there's a decent chance we'll sweep the Summit this year. Even with a talent dropoff, we'll still be in contention next year. Maybe we'll win the Summit tourney, maybe we won't, but we won't be out of the discussion and we'll probably be in the top three or four with ORU, Oakland & IUPUI.

As for why I think we'll continue to see attendance growth even without the "fab four", it's because the last four years have seen a build of momentum that I'm not sure NDSU MBB has ever had. Short of absolutely flopping next season, I think that momentum will continue even with what will be, now, an average season. Many previous seasons of reported attendance were either the result of inflated numbers or were propped up by the women's program(much like you guys the past few years). The current numbers are the result of accurate counting and the men standing alone without conference doubleheaders. That's why I'll put up last season's 3,034 against any 3,500 or 4,000 of seasons past.

Lastly, I think my "throwaway" comment was also valid. Miles sacrificed that season for the sake of the future and the play that year was horrible. The schedule was even worse. Other than SDSU, the best game on that schedule was Mankato. Those two games joined other hot tickets like Concordia(Mhd), Si Tanka-Huron, Upper Iowa, Dakota Wesleyan, and a nice sampling of DAC schools. Hell, your men's schedule this year is better than what we went through back then(not much better mind you, but enough).

Sic, the hockey story is wonderful, but how are you going to build on it to help pay for the DI move? Are you going to increase hockey attendance significantly? Can't do that, you're already at sell out levels. Raise ticket prices? Would GF and the UND fan base accept more than $25 for a regular ticket? To me, it looks like UND hockey is nearly maxed out as a revenue source. Even if you push hard in football and basketball, those facilities don't have that much room for growth. About 2,000 in football, and 1,500 in basketball. Combined with your priority seating program being linked to hockey, it's those numbers that would keep me up at nights growing new ulcers if I were AD Faison.

I'm probably going to be wrong with some of the above, and maybe even all of it, but none of it is even close to impossible, and little is even unlikely. We'll just have to wait and see. Now, the Bison/Oakland game is about to tipoff and it's available for free on channelsurfing.net, so I'll see you after the game.

While I certainly understand the optimism and hope bball fans have at NDSU (as a bball fan, I'd probably feel the same way if I was an SU fan), the facts are there is no one coming in that tells us they'll be players the caliber of what is leaving. I've read post after post on Bison bball where people complain about the short bench, the lack of scoring, and play from the bench, etc. I hope there are players coming and I hope SU does succeed because I want to see bball succeed in No. Dak. (right now, even w/our 3-0 record in the DAC, it isn't suceeeding here).

  16. You label 04-05 as a throwaway year because the the "fab four" wasn't playing, yet you project quadrupling attendance withing two more years after the fab four are gone. Why are those not throwaway years as well without the "fab four"?

Great point!!! They have hyped this group to no end (deservedly so, they are very good). There is nothing in the recruiting or sitting on the bench that makes anyone think they'll be a Summit contender after this year. In my opinion, to project any attendance increase after this season for NDSU bball is ludicrous. I hope that isn't how they are pimping their new arena to the taxpayers of Fargo. No one with any knowledge of bball believes that their program will be anything more than what it was prior to the Fab 4 showing up; average to below average. How many years between conference titles in the NCC? More than 5 I think.

  17. UND is just starting their transition and the attractiveness of opponents, particularly this year, isn't very good. NDSU is done with their transition and their attendance figures are what they are. They probably should be more concerned than we are. Considering the quality of our teams, the attendance figures from previous seasons, and being in the first year of transition the figures from this season so far are very much expected. The figures for this year might go up some as we get into more games after Christmas. I hope that when we finish our transition that our attendance figures are better than what NDSU is getting right now. We do have to remember one thing. Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo have a population base much larger than we have here. In other words they probably have larger attendance potential then we do. Hockey draws a lot of customers away from potential basketball fans too. People in Grand Forks have only so many nights in the week and so much money to devote to following sports teams. Hockey doesn't help our potential to grow our fan base for basketball.

I don't believe hockey "hurts" bball attendance. This is a hockey community. Most of the people who attend hockey have very little interest in bball at UND. There is some carryover but it is minimal. UND needs to find those people in this community who want to watch basketball first and get them to the games. Local H.S. school teams, smaller communities in the area, where there is no hockey and high school basketball is still a big deal. Those are some of the folks who need to be marketed too. There are also alot of people in this community who would rather go to a basketball game before a hockey. However, with parking what it is, the cost of a ticket (to watch Minot St.?), etc. it is very difficult to justify going to the Betty to watch bball right now. I can be found at high school games 3-5 nights a week. I love basketball and the energy of high school kids (boys or girls) playing their hearts out is awesome. Don't see that at UND games (mens games especially) right now.

  18. Lots of things made it close as said above like hours, service, quality etc. A big issue was cost and the thought that went into the building. It was designed to be upper scale martini bar. Even before opening we wondered how that would work on campus. And then the cost of food vs. quality wasn't there. They wanted to be a north end Sanders and that isn't possible with the $$$ kids have to spend. Mom, dad, and student loans can only supply so much money to drink. Plus the building's cost was over $2 million and that's a huge amount of debt to service. Personally...I loved the place when the Sioux were out of town playing. It was great to bring the kids to and have a good adult fun time. I thought the food was good if you got it before you wanted to leave.

Never had a bad meal there. Ate there last New Years Eve. Food was excellent and service didn't suck either.

  19. Open it quick because it would be good for before games if they have the right mix.

Really surprised they failed. I know their hours weren't great but just the location I would have thought would have made it work. 12,000 people at hockey games, 2000 at bball games (last year anyway). Just seemed to make sense in terms of location. With Overtime and Suite 49 closing. What are the options in the north end after ball games?

  20. The 2008 SDSU women are not the 2002 version you might be familiar with. You need to watch them play before you comment and compare your team to them. They have gotten significantly better from an athletic and physical standpoint the past 5 years. They remind me of physical Big 10 teams, but also have good team speed. They really out-quicked and out boarded MN, and they shoot it well from 3.

I think they have a good shot at running the table in the Summit which would put them at 1 loss at tournament time, and an easy auto-bid to the field of 64. They've come a long way.

Who here compared our team to SDSU? We were making a statement about well they've made the transition and were curious as why they have transitioned so well. Why do you people come around and troll for crap? My New Years' Resolution, "Not let these jerks from NDSU get to me on this board. I will ignore them completely in 2009."

800 people at your womens game the other night. 8 players dressed for games. She has 15 fulls and is using 10 of them. There are 3 topics for you to go to Bisonville and discuss. Now go.

  21. I have to admit, that I have not followed SDSU very closely, do they have some signature wins in D1...? I know thay made the NIT, I think last year, but who have they been playing.....?

Before Tim Miles moved on to CSU, the Bison had a 20 win season in transition, but in Tim's last two years he got big wins at Wisconsin and Marquette, that is what got him to CSU........because his 20 win season was rather hollow with something like 16 or those wins against sub.500 programs....

SDSU is currently ranked in the top 25 nationally and has beaten Minnesota, Wisconsin, and at least 1 Big 12 team so far this year. They lost early to Maryland by less than 10. Very solid right now.
