I think what it boils down to is that the Al is very sensitive to criticism right now because of how much it's received. It will get criticized far less for not booking concerts than for booking concerts that lose money. I don't see Simon and Garfunkel drawing very well here, just as Neil Diamond didn't. John Mayer? No thanks. That guy's a tool. Bon Jovi has a good track record already at the Fargodome. It's not surprising they're going to stick with what's worked well in the past. So that leaves Carrie Underwood. I think she would have drawn well here, but if it comes down to a bidding war situation, you have to be aggressive and willing to take a risk in order to have much of a chance to book a big concert. That's just not the political climate right now in GF.

Check out the comments section. Brad indicates she's looking at colleges out east.

UND lost tonight 71-61, and now has the dubious distinction of having lost two games this year to a team which, at the time, had an RPI of 347--the worst in dI (Houston Baptist being the other loss).

That's what the Great West is--a haven for (mostly) new dI schools with no real conference yet. The general consensus is that UND will join the Summit league in a few years.
-
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but are you saying that Taylor thinks NDSU can play an FBS game, AND two home non-conference games every year? Wouldn't that mean NDSU wouldn't play any non-conference FCS games on the road, other than in 12-game seasons?

She is--23.5 ppg and 19 rpg. Haven't heard anything about whether UND is showing interest, however (she's a jr.). Farroh's a bit on the small side for a post at the college level, but I'd much rather have a 6'0" or 6'1" center who can really score than a 6'2" or 6'3" player who is a project.

One thing I've noticed about the past few recruiting classes is that there hasn't been an abundance of kids who were really big scorers at the high school level. Smart was, as she averaged 25 ppg as a sr., and scored nearly 3000 career points. But most of the rest have scored between 10 and 14 ppg as seniors in high school, or perhaps slightly more, but in their state's smallest class, e.g. ND class B. Since obviously high school numbers generally go down rather than up once the player gets to college, it makes a person wonder exactly who is expected to develop into a double-figure scorer in the next few years?

From the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, recognizing the top girls basketball performances of the week:

NJ Tech's game at USD was also re-scheduled. That game is now on Sunday, March 7. At least on a Sunday, you'll still get fans. But on a Tuesday afternoon? Wasn't it possible to swap so that USD and NJ Tech could play in the evening on February 23, and UND got the March 7 game? Or how about playing at night at Hyslop (I'm assuming this may be too short of notice to get the Al)? Anything is better than playing on a weekday afternoon.

Noon and 2 p.m. games on a Tuesday? Wow.

I know Roebuck has never been a big proponent of red-shirting, but it's really turning out to have been a good move to have red-shirted Youngblut her first year. She's really starting to come on lately (25 points last night), and thanks to her red-shirt season, she still has one more year to go.

Softball has been dropped from the Olympics due to too much North American dominance. Hopefully women's hockey doesn't suffer the same fate: http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver...o&type=lgns

Here are Anderson's stats: http://preps.startribune.com/stats.detail....playerid=105645

It's been a long time since I actually expected a true freshman to start, but I think the chances are good Anderson starts right away. He'll be the first true point guard Jones has had (hard to believe considering it will be Jones' fifth year), and he's also probably more athletic than the only other options--"combo" guards Haugen and Schuler.

I believe these are the five most recent recruiting classes which have at least one player still on the team: 2004-05 Kimbrough (graduated) Ledger Bagaason 2005-06 Bergan Seay Youngblut 2006-07 K. Gillett (left team) Lof LaFrance (injured--no longer on team) Brekke (juco transfer) (left team) 2007-08 Privatsky (injured) J. Gillett (left team) Thingstad (left team--may have been walk-on) 2008-09 Sharkova (juco transfer) (ineligible--may never play) Houdek (injured) Kuehl (injured) Smart Rothfusz Obviously the last three recruiting classes, for a variety of reasons, have done very little so far. Lof is the only player who could be considered a meaningful contributor at this point. I'm not interested in placing blame for the way things have worked out, but clearly things need to start turning around quickly in terms of recruiting if we want to avoid being at the level of most of the rest of the Great West, which as we've seen is pretty terrible.
