  1. Wow, that guy has some serious PIM. I'd suspect he would be a good enforcer, a nice cleanup guy. SCCC has Conboy coming in, who's pretty impressive in that area too, but this guy is almost the second coming of Archibald.
  2. Poor Craigie. His team didn't put up more points than Michigan, which is how games are won-lost. I'd bet the Michgian fans were no worse than than the idiotic boneheads at the NCC. As far as the "home ice" issue, the only way you can solve that is to ensure that regionals are completely based on a team's geographic location, e.g., sending all the western teams to play their games in the east and vice versa. However, I'm of the opinion that a good team can win wherever they have to play. Another "red herring" much like the "bad officiating" excuse.
  3. Maybe Chris!!! will show up and explain how Zach didn't meet BC's exacting admissions standards. Hmm, I would have thought Zach would be more upset by Lou and Glen showing up while he was in the shower.
  4. The latest Vegas book has the following for the first two games: NCAA Mens Hockey 04/04/02 205 Maine +160 +1.5 (-180) 14:30 ET New Hampshire -200 -1.5 (+140) NCAA Mens Hockey 04/04/02 205 Michigan +200 +1.5 (-160) 20:30 ET Minnesota -260 -1.5 (+130)
  5. Alary's it is. 8 blocks is nothing in "hockey time" and it's far enough away that it should be pretty decent. I never knew they had a place for Bears fans here. Cool.
  6. I managed to get some tickets from a BC fan whose wife decided they were going to Ireland instead. Section 111, Row 22, 8-9. Got scrubbed in the drawing. I think there will be plenty of places close by to walk to between the first and second games. I think many local Minnesota fans aren't going to the first game, given some postings on different boards, so it may not be too bad except in the usual "popular" spots. Driving/parking in St. Paul is going to be a nightmare, more than usual, so I'm planning to find a spot in the morning and leave my car there all day if possible. It might make sense to figure out a spot to meet at the X at some point and perhaps head on over to some place for food, etc. We could also just designate a spot as de facto "Sioux FF Headquarters" and just meet there between/after the games. I'm not all that familiar with DT St. Paul's offerings outside of the usual Wild Tymes, Tom Reid's, etc. but I'll check this weekend and post some possible spots.
  7. Even though our boys have decided to give the others a chance at a banner, I was wondering which Sioux fans are going to make it to the Frozen Four, and maybe we could find a place to meet and put faces to names. I know a few people have posted their intentions on different threads, but I thought it might be better to have a consolidated thread. Have a good weekend.
  8. Dagies, it probably depends on the group in question as to whether Herr Jeanotte considers them to have a valid point of view. The same probably applies to individuals as well.

    Defense 2002-03

I'm not sure if it's the overall youth of the d-men or what, but I wasn't overly impressed with them as a group.
  10. I tend to agree with jk. Parise has a great deal of talent and potential, but he's not a one-man cure for what ailed us this season. If the rest of the team plays better and uses the hard-won/hard-lost experience from this season, he should be better and so should everybody else. I'm still aiming for a top-5 finish next season, but in this league anything is possible.
  11. Let's face it, the CCHA really isn't as loaded as the WCHA is this year. We managed to beat Michigan and Michigan State, but get smoked by Mankato in our own barn. It's not a knock on Michigan, which just seems to turn it to the next level this time of year, but I think they have a very real shot at another Title. Too many green freshmen, not enough leadership from the upper-classmen and iffy defense and goaltending does not a Title contender make, especially in this league.

    Colby

While we can definitely use some help at forward, I think guys like Ryan Hale, Bochenski and Massen really need to work on their speed and footwork in the offseason. Plus it would be nice if some of the defensemen would learn how to move their feet once in awhile too. It would make the goalie issue less of a problem if they don't have to face a 2-3 man breakaway.
  13. I wonder if "Baby Molly" is like the typical SCCC coed, with a low sloping forehead and one brow covering both of her crossed eyes.
  14. I wish the best for Ryan in the NHL. It does s u c k to lose him though. He takes away a lot of leadership and scoring potential. I can't think of anybody right now who could step into his skates right away, and this only compounds some of the leadership issues we've discussed the past season. Hopefully, somebody steps up fast and takes the position.
  15. In a tie playoff game, in overtime, especially with less than 2 minutes left, the zebras are not about to call anything on anybody but the most flagrant penalties where somebody could be injured, e.g., slashing over the shoulders, cross checking to the head/neck, whatever. No way in ####, were they going to blow a whistle for something like that at that stage. Like I said before we need an enforcer on this team to provide a "presence." This year's defense corps generally stood around like a bunch of traffic pylons when it counted. We clone Commodore and I'd bet our goalies and snipers will stay a lot safer too. Personally, I'd falso oot for boxing lessons for David Hale, Matt Greene and Andy Schneider, maybe Marvin too.
  16. I used to rip on Wooger as a coach because of some of his comments regarding UND recruiting kids out of the USHL and Canada who were a year or two older than his frosh. I actually met him at the State Fair right after Crowley jumped ship. He was a nice guy and was pretty complimentary of Blais' efforts at UND. I didn't bring up Crowley leaving, but he said it definitely threw a wrench into his plans for the next season. I like his color commentary. Sure he's a homer, but he can be pretty balanced in his comments and he isn't afraid to tag Minnesota or its players if he thinks they're dogging it. Somebody had better remind Frank there's a rug sale at Dayton's, er, Marshall Fields or whatever they call themselves this week. As for Sweeney ... I still smile when I remember those "Sweeney Sucks" cheers at REA.
  17. I think UNH has the easiest run to St. Paul. The better PWR teams are all stacked in the West, so attrition will keep better caliber teams home this April. Meanwhile, the East will send at least UNH and probably BU. From the west, I'm guessing Denver and maybe Minnesota, although the Michigan schools do have a tendency to turn it up this time of year. Without those asinine travel rules, the NC$$ should have made a better balance of PWR on both brackets.
  18. West 1. Denver 2. Minnesota 3. Michigan St. 4. Michigan 5. SCCC 6. CC East 1. UNH 2. BU 3. Maine 4. Cornell 5. Quinnipiac (charity case) 6. Harvard Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves ...
  19. While I think the idea is funny, I actually think their logic is flawed. If the vast majority of whites are not insulted or even amused by it (as I am ) they run the risk of further marginalizing nickname opponents at UND, Illinois, etc. as fringe elements who preach to the choir and are largely ignored by the vast majority of society. Preach on brother! I'm going to try to order my own "Fighting Whities" t-shirt. BTW: If Fighting Sioux goes by the wayside in about 300 or 400 years, maybe Fighting Whities would be a suitable replacement.
  20. I think the biggest surprise, IMO, was SCCC's lackluster play.
  21. Looks like Illinois has realized what we have long ago, there is no real room for compromise. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news....s%2Dhed
  22. Personally, I'm not offended by it. Perhaps some of the "enlightened, sensitive" folks in Merrifield can do that for me. And as soon as I get back from my next bar brawl, I'm going to do something about "Fighting Irish."
  23. David Hale shouldn't feel too badly, Marzurak did the same thing. I don't understand that pass, it's not like Hale is a punk, he's big enough to choose a better shot and handle guys like DeMarchi and Taffe. Maybe next season.
