I thought the timing was perfect. At the end of the game, the statement was made in case they were wrongly ejected. It was a great segway to the end if the game when the "Sioux Forever" chant came about. You know that meant a lot to the 7 seniors, who were the last class to wear the logo. I am not saying the banner and chant were necessarily related, but it was definitely not hard to connect the dots.
-
How do you know that was their motivation? There are a multitude of reasons they could have had that banner. Lack of leadership would be at the top of my list followed by many other issues that make me agree with the banner that was taken from the Ralph Saturday night! Would it be OK to have done this outside the Ralph prior to the game?

Also, believe it or not, Bob Kelley was brought in here to make sure the nickname issue was put to rest. This was one of a select few items that was going to define his legacy at our flagship university. Instead of taking the reigns and showing leadership with compassion and competency, he dropped the ball. He would have been much better served by getting out front of the issue and stating that he understood the high level of sensitivity of the issue and got on "our" side. He could have said something like, "I know this sucks, but the NC$$ has tied our hands with this issue." To summarize, he never really showed any compassion nor leadership for those of us that are hurt by losing the nickname. Aside from a few coaches, no one from the University administration has spoke out on behalf of those of us who loved being known as the Fighting Sioux!

The majority of the student body present at the game did protest the retirement of the nickname at the game by chanting "Sioux Forever". This I found ironic due to the fact that some folks on this board believe the student body want to move on so they have something they can identify themselves with. Guess those present at the game Saturday night didn't get the memo!

To the stockades for those who question the authoritative figures!

This^^^=awesomeness! Also the student section chanting "Sioux Forever!" after the senior presentation rocked. So much for those on here that say the students want to move on from the nickname issue.

3 OT starting for the Women's game. What happens to the Men's game if it goes to a 4th?

NORTH DAKOTA vs. St. Cloud State - SENIOR WEEKEND
Old Time Hockey replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Had to watch it twice. Let's hope the last set of players that were able to wear the Sioux jersey can bring home #8. This group of seniors are very special, what a ride they have had! -
Hmm? Some student athletes still want to be known as the Fighting Sioux? How can that be?

SIOUX @ Western Michigan - FRIDAY Gameday
Old Time Hockey replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I agree with everything you said except I think we could beat them 4 out of every 5 times! :-) -
Barely audible, just like the fan base in general. Not trying to knock the other sports, but they aren't exactly filling the seats as of late. I hope Bubba and co. get the football program turned around so there is a better atmosphere! By the sounds of things, it might be awhile for the men's bb program. :-(

. Unfortunately, attrition will win out in the end when it comes to what people wear and that is why you see non-Sioux gear for the most part. Also, I think Sioux is screamed just as loud if not louder after the anthem.

So you are the guy that Teeder and Sioux83 were making fun of wearing the Redskins jacket at the game.......

Agreed! This is the only way the league has to right a wrong, post game. Officiating has been subpar in college hockey since I can remember. The biggest change was when the NC$$ implemented a mandatory one game suspension to all fighting majors. The players could no longer police the games themselves and were left to the subpar referees to make sure dirty hits were dealt with properly. If this incident would have happened in the early 80's, Moore would have been lucky if he would have got a game with the 5. If he would have stayed in the game, goon squad for him!
-
If I could only get my hands on a Flickertails jersey............ :-)
-
Your right......... I will be that guy that everyone will be making fun of saying "look at that tool" he is wearing a Sioux jersey.
-
Ouch! Thought it was something like that. Looks like Jones was another great hire to get us through the transition. Does Mussman=Jones?
-
Not trying to stir the pot, just an honest question..... When was the last time the men's BB program made the NCAA playoffs (DIV 1 or 2)?
-
Good for you! Must be nice to know better than everyone else. Add me to that "living in the past" list. I am sure that we will be the only 3 not wearing Sundogs jerseys, but we will be able to cope being in the minority.
-
Your are correct. He took a lot of penalties with his stick which is a result of him not moving his feet and players blowing by him. That said, I noticed he was skating with more quickness and purpose this weekend. Maybe he was a little banged up and could not keep pace with the speed of the game.
-
Or were not allowed to speak! You can blame the SR tribal council for that.

Unfortunately the status quo has been they don't like to offend league officials, from the top down. Maybe they figure they won't get a good interview in the future. It's sad, but they (local media, TV, radio, and newspaper) have a hard time asking any controversial questions to league officials and even university coaching staff. It's been this way since I can remember (early 80's) so I guess it has been passed on from media personnel to their replacements. That said, we do have quality media personnel that cover the game, they just don't like to get out of their comfort zone by asking tough questions and doing controversial pieces. Goon does a good job with this, but he doesn't get the coverage that the mainstream media get!

I agree with Inheaventheresnobeer guy. The 3rd period collapse was kind of the perfect storm. They came out a little flat for the first 3-4 minutes, Denver took advantage and Zane gave up a couple of soft goals. Add to this the incompetence of the officiating crew and we escaped with a tie. Let's also give a little credit to Denver. They are a solid hockey team that took full advantage of our lapses in play and referees that let them mug our players. I don't blame them with all the muggings they got away with. If the officials are not going to penalize them, why wouldn't they do it when down on the scoreboard. Which leads me to my final point, the officials in this league officiate the scoreboard. You see it every week, especially in games that are separated by a goal or two. It is very frustrating!!

I really wish Schlossman, or someone else at the Herald would do a piece that takes the NCHC officials to task over this weekends series. I attended both games and couldn't believe the very, very poor level of officiating. Most of the issues I had have already been addressed in this thread, but I would like someone from the mainstream media go after Adams and co. to have some accountability. No offense to Goon, but maybe there would be a better chance to get a reaction from the league if something came from the printed media. I hope the Herald is listening. Denver plays CC this weekend so it would be beneficial to all teams in the hunt for the Penrose if Moore was suspended for at least one game.
