  1. I see dmk's point. The way I see it: * If I get a call from a headhunter and agree to talk to his client, that's not actively looking for a job. * If I'm sending out feelers, letting my contacts know that I might be ready to move, that's feeling out my options. * If I'm sending out resumes, that's actively looking. According to the descriptions above, Lennon is similar to the first. It could still very well result in him changing jobs, but I wouldn't characterize him as having been actively looking.

  6. My mistake. I just assumed NDSU would have added equestrian by now. How have you gone to full football scholarships without stepping out of Title IX compliance? Did you switch from proportionality to the "interests and abilities" measurement?

  8. Your aggressive posting style's pre-denigration of anyone who dares disagree with you notwithstanding, I'll take a stab at defending the premise of this discussion. I'm not sure to which post this comment is directed, but I don't think any of us who are fans of adding lacrosse see it as a revenue stream for hockey. Quite to the contrary, hockey is a high-profile, self-funding sport that doesn't need revenue help from others; we mention it in this thread because it puts UND on the national stage because we're competitive with big-name schools. I view lacrosse as a similar opportunity to add another high-growth sport that could quickly draw local fan interest with UND playing big-name schools and national interest if UND could succeed. I'm with you, but I don't remember ANY UND fan being a proponent of this. Reality is what it is, but I certainly don't *want* to see us following the 'SUs in adding "fake" sports to meet Title IX. Reality is that North Dakotans expect their freakin' events centers to run in the black; as silly as I think it is, they're surely going to expect their collegiate athletic departments to run in the black. The move to D-I means the big profile sports, football & bball, are going to suck up more money. The default way to pay for that is cut some non-revenue sports and possibly add some b.s. low-cost sports. I'm backing an alternative -- a growing sport that I think could be revenue positive and in which UND could possibly even grow into a national niche like we enjoy with hockey. The part that seems to bother you is that few of us think it would be enough to prevent cutting some non-revenue sports.
  9. Thanks for the feedback on that. It's something that *should* change if I pull off the desired redesign this summer. I hope to drop a very consistent theme, including navigation, across the entire site. That's a big part of the reason for the new logo design. In addition to the front page(s) being even more useful; the same logo should appear throughout the site, and take you to the same place if clicked from anywhere.

  11. I think you're confused by the concept I was saying that changing the tickets for sale/wanted to a single general Marketplace might fill this desire of getting "for sale" out of the hockey forum, but without taking up a bunch more front-page real estate (as the original proposal of 6 new main forums would have). The dilution problem would be that other memorabilia could get lost in the shuffle of tickets. The front page would only show the most recent post of any type of item wanted/for sale, whereas with separate forums for each (as originally proposed) you'd see the most recent tickets for sale separate from the most recent knick-knack for sale. There aren't 100 different forums because we're slow and methodical about change; when people make proposals we have discussions like these. I very much appreciate the ideas -- the current layout is largely in response to member suggestions and discussions.
  12. I'd probably be inclined to add more sports forums before 5 more buy & sell. I, personally, haven't noticed buying/selling to be a real problem. The problem with then moving it elsewhere is that far fewer people would see the messages; right now someone selling hockey memorabilia gets the full attention of all hockey fans. The reason we moved tickets is because it was becoming a problem (a dozen threads at a time), and because people know when they're in the market for buying/selling tickets. People don't necessarily know they're in the market for a jersey or bobblehead until they see someone is selling one. If we did want to make this change, would it also work to change the tickets forum to a general marketplace? The problem with that would be dilution.
  13. A few comments: * Thanks for all the thought people are putting into this, I knew we had a creative crowd here * In the final logo, we won't want to use any portion of any existing (including former) Sioux or UND logo. However, that doesn't mean you can't grab some feathers from another logo as part of a "mockup". * No need to get the details perfect. I remain quite likely to engage a professional to make the final version of the logo for a variety of reasons (the primary being related to image formats).
  14. In short, yes. It comes down to the definition of "booster". From UND's booster compliance information:
  15. Me too. But more importantly, do you have any good logo ideas? Seems like something with feathers would be appropriate. One obvious idea that occurred to me was draping some feathers around a letter(s) or other symbol (something akin W&M's banned logo). In a similar vein, there was the arm patch logo on the old Blackhawk Sioux jerseys with the S with crossed tomahawks behind it. I guess the basic theme I'm chasing is some sort of American Indian symbol paired with a letter or other symbol representative of UND or North Dakota. Obvious color schemes are green and pink (ok, maybe light on the pink). Perhaps incorporating the traditional Sioux feather colors (green, gold, red?) if there are any feathers.
  16. It's me!!! (and I *really* hope that helps answer your question). While I really do enjoy discussing my cartoon likeness, we're getting a little off track You made milk come out my nose. (Well, ok, you would have, had I been drinking milk at the time).
  17. Though it seems to discard 1 single space (how arbitrary), you can make it display spaces correctly by wrapping the text in a {code}...{/code} tag (where the curly bracket should actually be the square bracket [...]). 3 spaces 2 spaces 1 space 0 spaces[/code]
  18. There's a good threat, if we don't come up with a good enough logo idea, that will be the new logo

  22. It's time for a new SiouxSports.com logo. Ideas are welcome, in thread or PM. It need not be fully developed, partial ideas or concepts are also welcome. You don't actually need to be able to render or draw it yourself (though are welcome to, if you have that ability), I'm happy to commission a professional to do the final rendering. Some guidelines: * The logo itself should be square or perhaps taller than wide. * Simple is often best. I admire USCHO's rw&b star. These guys are a little bubbly for my taste, but demonstrate the branding power of simplicity. * Should be merchandise-friendly (I like the Sitting Bull banner at the top of this page, but it's not merchandise friendly). * Cannot infringe on existing copyrights or trademarks. e.g. No UND logos or derivatives thereof. If anyone contributes an idea that I go with, you'll get not only fame, but almost certainly some logo-bearing swag.
  23. Wow, I hate to impugn the intelligence of a first-time poster, but surely you must realize that you're on a North Dakota message board? Even if you didn't, the fact that you're posting in a hockey forum suggests that you should know that Norte [sic] Dame isn't even in the WCHA, so wouldn't have been at the Final 5. Therefore, your guessed expansion of the acronym ND looks kind of silly. Sigh. Anyway, welcome to SiouxSports.com; we hope you enjoy your stay.
