Proposal aired to combine NDSU and UND!
siouxforeverbaby replied to WYOBISONMAN's topic in Community
I did not remove it, I left it out. The reason I left that out is because I did not see that as part of the definition. I saw that as an explanation of what is often a flagship school. And if you look at the dates of those schools, they are probably the oldest in that system whereas NDSU is a land-grant school and NOT the oldest in the system -
Got an email this morning about voting for an All-Alerus Center Team....thought I would pass on the message to those of you that didn't get it. My link

thank you. and I agree with you that he has the right to raise the issue, but I just don't see how it would ever work. -

Glad I could help you laugh and thank you for calling me a joke and fyi I don't like mushrooms. Now to explain, flagship university is a common word and I found a definition for it if you want to reference my original post. Secondly, UND is still known as the Fighting Sioux...we are allowed to use the nickname this year as it has not been officially retired yet....we are in the process of it. There will be a new nickname, so deal with it. I normally am fine with you, but next time...please try to read all of the conversation before you butt in. -

My point was that you completely ignored the second half of my original post....sorry for an attempt at being sarcastic. And you are still ignoring it, making a new university would not make a new flagship university. But I get that you want to ignore that part, so moving on. -

Um, no...a vote of the people of North Dakota can not change the definition of a flagship university.....sorry. And yes, a vote of the people would overrule the SBoHE..but in all actuality how many people in North Dakota actually want this? You have 10 people listed for your group, 9 of whom live in North Dakota. That is not the majority at all and really, if it is going to take money from the schools in their area....I don't see a whole lot of people going for this. -

One, the issue would not be the NCAA's, it would be the SBoHE's. Two, the definition as much as I can find of a flagship university is that it is the oldest university from which a university system grew....therefore, making it virtually impossible to make NDSU and UND...ONE flagship school. UND is the oldest being founded in 1883, a full 7 years before NDSU and UND being the state university when the colleges were established. The states that have more than one flagship school, also have more than one university system. -
Welll, this stinks. Tough loss boys, we should won this game..

Because I was interested and bored, I looked for a definition of a Flagship University and could only find a Wikipedia one that said "The phrase flagship campus or flagship university is often used with reference to state university systems in the United States, which often comprise numerous campuses in widely-separated locations. In this context, flagship means the original campus from which the system grew. Fulfilling the naval analogy, it is often (though not always) the site of the administrative headquarters for the system." So, I looked to see if I could find a list of the flagship schools in each state. I found the following website, which had a good list My link And still bored, I created a list. I only used U. of or State U. unless noted by state; some states have more than one system which is denoted by an *. Flagship schools are in bold and the dates are when the university was founded *Alabama: U. of AL in Tuscaloosa (1831); AL State (1867) Alaska: U. of AK -
In response to your question about doors opening....the game starts at 4pm, so doors should open around 3pm IIRC. Have fun at the game! I was hoping to get to a game this season, but the finances and time schedules don't appear to be working out.
