  1. Hey shh nothing to see here. With 900 employees we will eventually hear some stories.
  2. Can anyone that worked there provide some insight as to what protective measures were or were not in place? What was done right and what was done wrong?
  3. I never said they had to be shut down. A little oversight to stop these outbreaks from happening would be nice though. But I guess they need to operate at either full capacity or not at all eh? Once again, how essential is it when it fully comes to a halt?
  4. If it’s not preventable then why test? Why close the business down?
  5. All LM Wind employees to quarantine for two weeks. It sounds like 110 tested positive and there's about 50 test left to process. I'm curious what the plan is to prevent this from continuing to happen at these essential businesses.
  6. This is no longer just a big city problem. Grand forks county has an infection rate per capita three times that of Hennepin county. And this could get much worse over the next several days.
  7. How have religious liberties been infringed upon? And your right to assemble will return when our leaders can figure out how to safely do it. Many other countries have figured out how to do this so I hope eventually we can figure it out too.
  8. Can’t you still do all of that minus going to the park?
  9. https://apple.news/A2pcWeeA0RBK6Aaq93FVdlg More on the smithfield debacle. Noem knew about the outbreak for a month and instead of acting she went on Fox News bragging about how well South Dakota was handling the pandemic. Even after she ordered them to close they were allowed to stay open and the company offered bonuses for employees to show up.
  10. Masks will be a huge part of this moving forward. Other countries had adopted mask wearing with past viruses and the purpose is to protect others from what you might have. If everyone wears a mask in public, the sharing of respiratory viruses from person to person goes down. I believe some places have enforced mask wearing in public by law and others it’s a common courtesy, and if you are seen in public with no mask you are shunned. The problem is we live in the United States where the president has come out and said he will NOT wear one. I’ve heard the kookoos on Knox come out and say this is a free country and they will not be forced to wear a mask in public. Heck those guys have come out and said they will refuse the vaccine. Has anyone been to Hugo’s lately? General consensus of mask wearers is at maybe 20%? I agree with those of you that want to open things up, I’d like that too. But we’ve got a long way to go in order to do that safely.
  11. I saw a car driving 75 down i29 near grand forks today. Middle aged woman. Luckily for the driver she wasn’t in Minnesota on hwy 220 or she’d get a hefty speeding ticket.
  12. Man that one went over your head. I’ll level with you though. Problem is the immunocompromised generally aren’t the ones drinking.
  13. Sure alcohol is killing people. But if you decide to sit in your house and drink, have at it, it's your life. If you drink and decide to drive, this is against the law, as this puts other lives in danger. If you drink and decide to assault someone, same thing, you've put others' lives in danger.
  14. Anyone here plan on joining the protest? https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/government-and-politics/5203813-Protest-planned-to-demand-end-to-North-Dakota-business-shutdown
  15. Since I have no experience running a meat packing plant I should feel comfortable with shoulder to shoulder working conditions and an employer encouraging people to come to work sick which caused over 600 infections during the covid pandemic? You do realize that this business's decisions have affected everyone in our region, so each and every one of us has a right to be concerned.
  16. I've read a few articles but I think most here would call it fake news so won't even post any links. They may say they made attempts, well they didn't try hard enough. The infected count speaks for itself.
  17. I admittedly have no experience operating a meat packing plant either. With that said common sense says working shoulder to shoulder in a food plant without proper PPE is a no no. And forcing employees to come in to work when they are ill is also not good. Hopefully when and if they re-open they'll have a more responsible operating plan in place.
  18. That depends on who you ask https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/09/who-cited-human-transmission-risk-in-january-despite-trump-claims
  19. 600 plus infections, tied to a single employer outbreak, is bound to spread with no county or statewide shelter in place happening. Unfortunately this means the deaths will follow.
  20. Not gonna argue with this. Smithfield's Sioux Falls plant being shut down indefinitely sure isn't going to help the situation. If they would have acknowledged and addressed what changes had to be made in their plants months or even weeks ago they'd still probably be operating at some level in SD. Instead we still have people arguing that we aren't New York or Chicago. Well it's getting too late for that argument.
  21. Probably because they also think they are exempt from social distancing and measures that would reduce the spread of the virus as they are deemed essential. I mean there's a supply chain that we can't disrupt at all costs right?
  22. It's no surprise this happened in South Dakota with the way their governor has touted on Fox News how well their state is doing and that they are not New York. She continues to defend her stance saying they are not Chicago even though the Sioux Falls infection rate per capita has exceeded Chicago's. Unfortunately this attitude is passed down to the employer level and what's done is done. Maybe we can get something positive out of this and regulations will prevent this from happening over and over again, probably not in South Dakota though. I don't know the right number but I can tell you that I'd take 50% over 0%.
  23. We can go back over three months and look again at what the World Health Organization was warning if you'd like, rather than stop funding them. Every business has had to make adjustments due to the pandemic. Just because a business is deemed essential doesn't exempt them from changes that need to be made. Smithfield Foods thought they were exempt and how's that going for them? What are all the pig farmers going to do with all those pigs now?
  24. It’s unrealistic that a business change their model to run at say 50% production in order to allow some social distancing and extra cleaning to be done? It’s unrealistic for an employer to implement an if you are sick policy to stay home rather than forcing sick to show up to work? What’s realistic is that they are now shut down indefinitely. If the governors can force certain businesses to be shut down they surely can implement some policies for employers.
