Fetch was correct as well. It's kind of a big thing in Canada.

Unfortunately, if you go through these forums, as well I'm sure the comment section of various articles, I'm pretty sure you'll find some people referring to Native American's in those terms. The majority of us don't, but all it takes a a couple of posts and there you are. It only took .5 seconds for Sioux hockey haters to brand Hakstol for a brief lapse in judgement. It's no different in this context.

AH! You beat me to a similar reply.

I just hope he gets back on the ice against MN this weekend.

I thought he had a very good wrist shot late in the 3rd.

I did not.

Looks like we definitely disagree! When you say cursing is something that affects others, I don't know how you can ignore those that see you flipping the bird and not say that's the same thing. Again, when you fly the bird you are cursing out that individual, saying "f you". If Hak says "f that" or "that's fing baloney" no one cares. But if he yells "f you Adam!" it's the same thing, except only Adam and the players here him (unless he's on tv). But when he flies the bird the whole arena can see it. So yes, to me, there's quite a difference.
-
Let's be honest. Letting the f-bomb fly is vulgar but letting the bird fly is an aggressive gesture toward someone else. There's a difference between cursing, and cursing someone out, and people often mistake the 2. The bird is more out of line, IMO.

Hextall is much smaller than Bickel. I doubt Bickel will be too worried about Hextall. Hextall gives up 3 inches and 20#.

nicksmom, we're pulling for all of you. I hope he's up for the trip for Denver. Good luck, Nick!

I know one who would disagree with you.

When I was working in sales my boss would tell me that it's great to have what appears to be a good working relationship with a client, but you never know if you really have a good relationship until something goes wrong. When something goes wrong, that's when you find out the quality of your relationship. Pretty much everyone had a lot of respect for Hakstol prior to this incident, and I think for all but a teeny minority that will continue after the fact because of how he has handled himself and the aftermath. Now, he does it again and that will start to get chipped away, but I don't think there are very many people concerned about that. I know I'm not.
-
I doubt that.

Of course they are different. The f-bombs fly back and forth between players, officials and coaches all the time. You don't fly the bird, especially to a ref. Everyone knows there's a line there.

I agree. I would have expected Kupchella to reiterate that Hakstol's action was out of line with how the university want sto represent itself, and to support the AD's decision to go with the suspension. Adding the additional spanking to Hak seemed like Kupchella needed a "Hey, I can lay down a heavy hand too" moment to show how tough he can be. Hakstol has been a first class representative of this university from all I can see, and Kupchella should have treated him as an adult, not a misbehaving child.

I heard that too, but Yttrium has posted that Wheeler said something in the line, not that Wheeler DID anything. I think the information Hak had was incorrect, but Wheeler obviously provoked the situation. The thing is, depending on what was said, was Finley right to pull him out of the line or not? We really don't know because we don't know the particulars.

I know one thing teams do to get shots is to pass across from point to point to get the open lane. I've noticed Chorney and Bina stand relatively close together this year when they are passing to each other, so it doesn't require a big shift from the defense to get in the lane. While I question whether that is being effective, I realize I don't know enough about PP systems to know what else they might be trying to accomplish, but from my seats I wonder if this is one reason why they are not getting a lot of shots from the point, anyway.

Hak was wrong. He needed to apologize and I have no problem with the suspension. I thought Kupchella was way overboard, however.
-
I don't see how the nickname issue is affecting this decision. Frankly, the publicity and "newsworthyness?" of the suspension will probably get more attention than the issue itself. So in a way the suspension is calling attention to the issue, I think. I was surprised that it was 2 games. I was expecting a game, but I would imagine this will keep the WCHA happy and the matter will be put to rest.

One of that blogger's favorite teams is the Mavericks, where Kaip just destroyed one of their guys in a fair, drop the gloves and helmets, fight. There has been bad blood between Mankato and the Sioux for some time, so to say Chris is unbiased is...likely inaccurate. I respect his knowledge and really enjoy his blog but I wouldn't catagorize him as unbiased on this topic.
-
Kaip deserved to be called for that hook, no doubt. I think Kaip and the Sioux coaches were upset with the call, not because it wasn't a hook, but because so much stuff had been let go to call this one now. Still, it was so blatant that it had to be called. I also think Adam was looking for a chance to even it up and Wheeler gave him that chance. Genoway knew Adam wouldn't throw 2 guys, so he tried to incite a response and he got it, just not from the guy he expected to get it from. Some people say Genoway should have gotten a penalty. Maybe. But how different is that from 2 guys standing toe and toe and jawing at each other on the boards? I thought I recognized that guy but without the number couldn't place him.
-
I think it was Fairchild he was chirping with. It looked like they were both enjoying the spat as well. I did hear something Genoway said about "ooooo, so you played high school hockey!". As far as Hak goes, it's a heated game and there is going to be profanity but there is a line that should not be crossed and he knows it. He manned up to it right away and is doing the right thing right away, and good for him. As far as I'm concerned it's behind him/us now.

This was the perfect storm for Sioux haters, for sure. And the Sioux have some responsibility for it. It was compounded by it being televised by FSN. FSN seemed to have cameras on Hak, so they were looking for some good stuff. Someone posted that they thought FSN had an agenda and I thought it interesting that they had so much footage of Hak on camera Saturday. I can only imagine they have plenty of opportunity for that kind of stuff from coaches all the time but you never see it.
