It was on by just after midnight last night. That's when I checked. Not sure how much earlier it was on.

I didn't catch that at first. That was sneaky funny.

A few notes: Big scorer Bozak went down in the Friday game at Mankato in December. In the last 5 games since he left Denver is 3-1-1. One win on the road at Mankato, a Tie with Holy Cross (NC) and a 4-1 loss to BU (NC). Then a sweep of Tech in Denver, one game going to OT (4-3). Here who has scored in Bozak's absence: 1st Line Rahkshani - 3-2-5 Martin - 2-2-4 Maiani - 1-3-4 Total - 6-7-13 2nd line Colbourne - 1-2-3 Ruegsegger - 0-1-1 Ostrow - 2-1-3 Total - 3-4-7 Lower lines Glasser - 3-0-3 (all in one game) Salazar - 1-1-2 Drewhurst - 0-1-1 Total 4-2-6 Top D Pairing Brookwell D - 0-2-2 Testwuide D - 1-0-1 Lower D Mullen D - 0-3-3 Wiercoch D - 0-3-3 Cheverie - 12 goals on 134 shots for .910 saves % and a 2.4 GA. Interesting stat: Tech put up 33 and 32 SOG on the road against Denver. Special Teams last 5 games: Denver PP = 2-32 = 6% Denver PK = 4-20 = 80% (They gave up a PP goal in 4 of 5 games) Denver took almost exactly 5 penalties each game. My Keys: 1. Play physical and aggressive. Don't fear aggressive penalties, but don't be stupid. 2. Don't give up odd man opportunities. Make Denver earn their 5x5 opportunities. 3. Put a lot of shots on Cheverie. Playing the %, 35 SOG each night should net 3, maybe 4 goals.

Well, there's a few guys that weren't on MN's recruiting radar. It's refreshing not to hear about bunch of whining about the Sioux being axe murderers. Denver may be one of the bigger rivals but I give them credit for not crying and whining.

What's Butler so ticked at Gwoz for that he'd want to punch him in the head?
-
I like our forwards but there is ALWAYS room for Jeff Panzer on a team. The guy was that good, IMO. Someone mentioned Spiewak. Panzer might have been the scorer but I'll take Spiewak on my team for an all around solid 2-way forward that you can depend on not to screw up with the puck, kill penalties and shut down the opponents top line. Not to mention score key goals against top goalies in the NCAA's. A key player on any team.

I am also, but I can't see people getting worked up about Ghost Riders because they are religious. Ghost is used in many ways not related to religious connotations.
-
I don't think they're that touchy.

Or the one in Wisconsin with CC where 2 guys from each team were involved and each got double minors and one each misconducts. That after Friday's game with the Bucky player got a penalty for slashing the goalie and Gabe Guentzel got a roughing minor in response? I'm sure Eaves was plenty ticked about the big bad Tigers gooning it up, just like last year. Now we see why Guentzel was forced out of MN. One coach's kid defends his goalie, the other coach's kid....

Yeah, UND turns the games into fightfests. The other teams never contribute. North Dakota Hockey: You start it, we finish it.

This seemed out of place in the Nickname forum so it has been moved to the Community forum.

And having his captain quote that the coaches told them to goon it up against Hextall? Agreed, it's not the bird but how relative should we get? Hill's getting a free pass on last weekend and somehow UND fans always get "the halo".
-
My concern is what their motive is. I hope it's not to create an environment were it's easier for them to split for a Big 10 conference.
-
I didn't see that one but did see one hit the ice during the Jones/Lucia situation during the long delay as the refs tried to sort things out. As the crowd had been warned at that point I was surprised a penalty was not called, but I think the officials had more important business at hand. If I recall Eidsness kind of shepharded it toward the Sioux bench.

That's really nice. I don't think you should apologize for it not being freehand. I certainly wouldn't freehand something like that. Good job. I'm jealous. Might have to go buy me one of those woodburning sets! Did you purchase the wood or did you get that yourself, and if so how do you avoid it cracking?
-
From a geographical perspective I can understand that point but not sure I understand why Bucky would be interested in UBC.
-
Now, that's just crazy talk right there. Everybody knows that's not true.

After Lucia's wresting match last night and his CFB penalty tonite it's easier to understand how Gopher fans think the Sioux are the cheap team.
-
I agree. You can't give up a 2 goal lead against a team that struggles to score like Tech. There can be no repeats of this tomorrow. Get on top, stay on top. It may be ugly hockey, but beat them at it.

I enjoy the thought bubbles myself, but I talked to a former player after the series and he says he hates seeing that. He says he knows Hakstol and the team don't like them because the opponent does remember that stuff for down the road. As others have said, I also am not a fan of the "F*** the Gophers" chant. Nor do I think it was a good thing to put Kangas' cell phone number up on the jumbotron. I think that's going too far. Like that commentor on the blog said, the gopher fans do have the chant that end with "f***you you worthless piece of S***". Those in glass houses...
-
My biggest fear from last weekend is that once Lucia does move on that now Hill might not get the job.

On Brad Schlossman's blog.

The proof will be on the ice but I really think this team does a pretty good job of keeping its perspective. Joe is absolutely right here, and it's going to be important to play one game at a time. I also like Jason Gregoire's comments to Tim Hennessey after Friday's win. Tim asked him if the team is hoping to pick up Saturday where it left off on Friday and Jason said no, we need to be better, because we didn't play all that well for a large part of the 3rd period on Friday. A lot of guys would have looked at the domination involved in the 6-3 victory (first 2 periods) and just answered that they need to keep it up the next night. For me I appreciated the honest and thoughtful answer that JG gave. I also heard that the team was less celebratory after the Friday victory than one might imagine, all things considered. Many guys looking at areas where they can improve their game, rather than basking in the victory. If this mindset holds it certainly gives a better chance of getting that needed run to the playoffs.

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play
dagies replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
O'Donnell was on the bench for warm-ups both nights. Maybe the coaches really wanted him and said "you ain't leaving until you commit, eh".
