Oh man, I still remember that check. What a plastering. Actually, he inferred as much. Maybe not so much cowards, but unwilling to play physical or respond to physical challenges (checking, etc)

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play
dagies replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Beat me to it We found out about it because Brad Schlossman must have contacted Knight or someone close to Knight and found out the information from him. The coaches cannot comment on players who have not signed an LOI, so the information came from other directions. The player or his family can confirm the verbal commitment, but no one in the hockey program can. That's why we're lucky to have a dedicated journalist like Schlossman who puts so much time into finding things out and not only writing stories for the paper but providing so much good content on his blog. -
It is a tactic certain "experts" use to very good effect.

I agree that Nanne didn't have the full facts when he talked about the Jones/Lucia situation. However, in fairness Sagard is right. When a Gopher fan called who "lived an hour away from GF and even lettered a couple of years for them" called and complained that the Sioux have 23 year old freshmen compared to MN's high schoolers, and that Stoa and Fairchild were tired from being off at the WJ tournament, Nanne wasn't buying any of it. First he poo-poo'ed the idea that the Sioux have older freshmen coming in than then Gophs, and he also said most of the Gopher freshmen are playing a year or two of juniors so that doesn't wash. He also corrected the guy that Stoa wasn't at the WJ tournament. As Sagard said, he also took the Gophers to task for being unwilling to be physical, and that this has been a problem not just last weekend, but in the last couple of years as well. He bemoaned the fact the Gophers don't have much size on the forward lines and were being outphysicalled and out checked this past weekend. The only issue I have with that is I thought MN has a pretty fair amount of size on their forward lines this year.

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play

Sounded to me like that was the one who called later and committed. I think there's one unaccounted for. -
I think that's one thing that's been quite refreshing about fans from both sides of the ice this time. There's been no complaining about getting jobbed by the officials. While the penalty minutes did add up for both teams there were very few penalties, IMO, of the hooking, tripping, elbowing variety, etc. Both teams played pretty well except for some of the cheap stuff and the extra-curriculars that have already been well discussed. I thought the officiating was pretty good all weekend. A few missed calls but for the most part those calls made were deserved, and very very few flagrant calls missed. Not too bad for a weekend of work.

That would require an open mind on this topic.

They sure managed to get a couple fine looking models, though.
-
What do you think of the situation now, Coach Hill?
-
A lot of the stuff on sale uses the UND name and the interlocking logo. Only a small amount uses the Indian Head logo. Some uses "Sioux" but not a lot. I don't think this is a nickname thing. Also, I think other school's stuff is on sale.

You're kidding, right? Did you ever see Kaip or Prpich skate away when the postman rang? If you want to say that Lucia is an agitator, fine. If you want to compare them to the aforementioned, you have to compare the whole package, not parts.
-
Sagard, this is a valid question. Do we know how long Trupp was there before the camera found him? I do know that after the game Duncan told Tim Hennessey that the players believed Lucia was the culprit. Beyond that I don't know as from our seats we didn't even realize Trupp was on the ground. We couldn't see any of what was happening next to the boards by the MN bench because of our sightlines, players standing up, etc etc.

At Friday's luncheon Hakstol said that Blood has come up to the point they are confident he will play well if put into the game. Seems like at this point it's more a matter of whether they want to play Miller at D or F.
-
2 both nights. One guy was there again on Saturday.
-
Exactly. After this weekend a former player told me he hates it when they put the thought bubbles up over the opposing players and do those types of things. He said the coaches and players know that the opposing team will remember that stuff, and they hate that its put up on the jumbotron. That was very funny.
-
He was not the kid on the bench, however.
-
I do think there's a difference between being cheap and manning-up at the proper time. This incident roils me because the gopher faithful and players/coaches completely ignore it while insisting the Sioux are cheap and the gophers are not. I'd have less problem with this if their perspective was a little more balanced. THAT is funny.
-
Why do you think Herb recommended that Parise play for the Sioux?
-
On Friday, I noticed the first time Hakstol had a discussion with the ref at the benches he kept his hands behind his back. Smart move!

We were sitting right behind the goal and our thought was that Kozek shot that "well" after the whistle. I thought he deserved a penalty. Nice to read the quote that Dave Berger logged on his post-game comments post. Apparently the gopher coaches sent him out to shut up Hextall from chirping. Question for gopher faithful, how would you react if you read that Hakstol sent out a player to pound a gopher player who is yapping his trap? I think I know:
-
This is the only explanation we could come up with for why the shirt was created the way it was. However, this is the Sioux country. Put the Sioux logo first, not the Gopher's "M".
-
We agree there, enemy.

Nickname/Logo Affecting Conference Affiliation
dagies replied to bincitysioux's topic in UND Nickname
Why is it so important what reason NDSU is using not to schedule UND? IMO the better approach is to leave it lie, and talk publicly, constantly, about how NDSU is scared to play UND, and that's the reason UND is not on the schedule. Repeat something enough times over enough time, and pretty soon perception is reality. And that would seem to me to be the best revenge rather than beating our heads against a wall now. -
Ripping on a program is one thing, ripping on an individual when they are down is another. The guy has problems, and he can take the blame for his share, but to publicly go after a guy like that, IMO, reflects poorly on the Sioux fanbase. Just my opinion.

I would hope we would stay away from these types of sentiments.
