I just talked to Comcast tonite for another matter and then asked about upgrading my standard cable so I can get the FCS channel. I was told the same package as above. The first person quoted me the $7.99 monthly price, but the second one said they do have a 6 month FREE TRIAL which I will probably pick up. I can cancel later if I don't like it. FYI

To me it seems he's trying to dance on the fine line of reminding everyone in the school community that the University is about more than a nickname, and that is what school representatives should keep in mind. Personal opinions are fine, but keep your primary focus on non-nickname related subjects. I think he's speaking to both sides.

It just goes to show, if you need to replace the Great One, you hire a Fighting Sioux.
-
Maybe, but I bet they won't be coming from the same people who are now showing gratitude.

Final Five 2009, directly across from the DU bench:

That's my point. Maybe that's why it suddenly showed up.

I hope someone mailed a copy of the Spirit Lake resolution to the pompous asses at UM.
-
Here's a thought. Spirit Lake tribal council reads the handwriting on the wall. They realize the State Board isn't going to move the deadline and there's not enough time for Standing Rock to do ANYTHING to forestall the eventual nickname transition. So, what better than to come out NOW with a resolution of support. Why? Because when it all goes down and everyone's ticked off that the nickname went away, people aren't blaming the Native Americans. "Our resolution of support is already on the books. Don't blame us!" It's sort of a worst case scenario and I have no idea if it played out that way but if true it would be a very astute public relations move. Still, what I'm really hoping for is a little more flexibility from the state board than we're seeing.
-
Somehow that's not a surprise.
-
Agreed. I don't have a problem with that at all.
-
There has been discussion about the pipe ceremony at Standing Rock and whether or not that should be upheld as approval for UND to use the nickname. It would seem, with Spirit Lake's resolution and RHHiT continuing to insist that the SR council would not support the nickname that the validity of the pipe ceremony may becoming more and more important.
-
I would just like to thank the Spirit Lake nickname supporters and the council for their work and the resulting resolution. I still feel they don't owe this to anyone. I believe that they are doing it for their own reasons. I still appreciate it all, regardless of the final outcome. Thank you, Spirit Lake.
-
I can appreciate that irony!
-
If the State Board doesn't move that arbitrary deadline now it will be a travesty. Who knows what SR will do, but this is getting awfully close. So you're saying there's a chance?

I can totally understand not having any respect for the guy.

I don't know. I'm as happy as anyone that he's not in charge at the NCAA any more, but we're talking about someone losing a human life. Hard for me to relish that. This isn't Stalin or Hitler or Bin Laden.

I don't think the various tribes owe us anything. They are getting nothing from UND's use of the nickname other than maybe some publicity and possibly the pride (for those that feel that way) that the name was selected for this use. I think the reason there is a late push by some within the tribes is that until just recently there wasn't a need for them to do so. Nor was it their responsibility to do so. But now they are faced with the responsibility falling to the tribes and they are doing what they can for their position on the subject. I applaud those nickname supporters who, IMO, have done some pretty great things on the reservations recently regarding the nickname. Their efforts have been the only hope I've seen in the last couple of years that the nickname might yet remain. It's probably too late now, but some of the blame would have to go to the State Board for arbitrarily installing a deadline that didn't have to be there. I believe there's a lot more responsibility to be put on UND and the State Board and others than there is on the tribes.

I tended to read this more in this light as well.

I'm not a guy who knows a lot about systems so I found reading this blog entry on Russo's blog interesting to read. What made me want to post here was this paragraph:
-
You have read his blog, haven't you?

My very first instant reaction to these jerseys was not positive. Something about the striping seeming to a little too much like Munchkin fashion. But after looking at these more for a short time I like them and I think they're going to look very good on the ice. I don't mind the rounded hem at all. I also agree that Big HG's were super sweet. Would love to see them become reality. I'm going to start saving for a green one, I think.

Pumped to hear they are "old school". Can't wait to see them.

All we need is a little color change...
