Wow, I didn't know that Ryan was hurt either. Ouch.

I should have titled this "injuries". Any word on Lundbohm. After the game on Sat they were saying it looked a couple weeks. Any news?
  3. I personally think this is a misguided attempt to be cautious. What do I know but I really am not that concerned about air traffic safety. I think if there will be more problems, it will be with arenas crashing to the ground before more flights are flown into buildings. My opinion.

After the game on Sat they were saying on the radio that it looked like Chad had injured his MCL. Any word in GF on his injury? We could use him and Lundbohm back quickly, but if he tore this ligament it probably is the season for him?
  5. What an exciting game. Both teams played well, and yet gave the other team chances to win. Fortunately the Lakers were killed by penalties, and made the more egregious mistakes. Coach Lennon is a class act, from what I see of him. Met him once at a golf tournament. Didn't even know who he was and he talked with me like a regular Joe. So is Roger Thomas. They both deserve this victory, as well as the guys, IMHO.
  6. Goon, welcome to the Sioux-per Fan club  I don't know why Blais has stayed with Andy so long. I agree that I might have played Brandt a bit more earlier, considering how inconsistent Andy has been. Could be that Blais was giving Andy every possible opportunity to work himself out, given his previous track record backing up Karl, and that he is a senior. Remember, last year Karl didn't have the greatest year to start with and only came on later in the year. (No, he wasn't as bad as Andy has been). So maybe Blais was trying to give Andy that time to square away his game. Could be he has little confidence in Sofie and Brandt. With Sofie, that is no surprise. With Brandt, who knows. Rumors of attitiude are just that, but could play into it. Or, maybe in practice the guy just doesn't show he deserves ice time. I don't know. YaneA makes an interesting point about rebounds not being cleared. I am no hockey or goalie expert, but even I could see the big difference in rebounds that Kollar left out front in the past, compared to Goehring. But he got away with it. Maybe our current D just isn't as adept at protecting the goal from that second shot....
  7. I agree with JK. Andy shouldn't be run off the team, but Andy needs to prove that he has the mental make-up and physical skills to be the starter. Until then Brandt should start. One game is too quick to annoint Brandt the savior, but we know Sofie is not the guy, so give Brandt his shot, just like Andy has had his. Let the better man win until a new goalie shows up.
  8. I wasn't at the game either but the announcers spoke highly of his play and so did Blais after the game. It sounded like Blais will be playing Brandt from here on until forced to do differently.
  9. Scott, you are right about that. The 3rd period in the Friday game IN Mankato was similar. Just kind of a defensive shell, but not much defense. Uncharacteristic, for sure.
  10. Give the boys some credit. They played very well 5 on 5 for most of the night. They need help on the PK, but the PP was great last night too. Unfortunately, a couple bone-head plays really cost the Sioux last night. Even though he gave up 7 goals, it seems as if Andy had a solid game. I'm only going to by what I heard on the radio. I didn't see the game.... I'm afraid this loss will be a real crusher. It seemed like the team was really trying to put the past weekend behind them. In terms of effort, I think they did. But didn't get the job done that should have been finished. I don't know what to think about tonite's game now. Had we won last night I would have predicted another win tonite. Now I don't know what will happen. We have dug a deep hole.
  11. With all due respect to PHE (read the above messages), his excellent info wasn't so accurate either. I'm not flogging PHE, just using a good example of how things are not always as the rumors make them seem. Could Parise be reconsidering? Yes, I suppose it is true. How would we know? If he is, the goofer fans who claim he was impulsive are more right than I have given them credit for. And if the kid is this flaky, let him go somewhere else. He's not Gretsky. On the other hand, the guy just signed his letter last week. I'm going to give him credit that he's thought this through. Also, if his linemate Murray also commits to the Sioux that might lessen the impact of this rumor. We'll see what happens there too. Whereas the current weekend of hockey and the publicity has probably not helped UND hockey recruiting, it is a small snapshot in time. Recruits will be seeing a picture of Dean Blais' Sioux teams from the past several years, and the good players coming in next year (Parise, Genoway, etc) and the maturation of the good freshman group and will see a positive future. If the Sioux can play decent this weekend at WI, we'll all feel last weekend is a month behind us, not just a week. Let's see what happens. Whip the Badgers!
  12. In today's Herald Blais said there appeared to be real good effort and attitude on the team right now, and that he is getting good leadership. He really pointed to goaltending being the problem. This is different than what he said after the the games last weekend. I hope he is right, but I wonder also if he isn't being awfully hard on Andy. Who knows what conversations they have had behind the scenes, so that could play into it.
  13. While I still think there might be some benefit to practicing under game facility conditions, ScottM and leifolson are correct. We can't get caught up in those types of details and think they are the main problem. For some reason the team did not play intense last weekend.
  14. Forecheck, that is very interesting information about the lights. I wonder what we can do about that. Maybe have the team practice lofting 60 foot mortars at the opposing goalie to see if we can also make them look silly too! Speaking of turning on all the lights...I think I saw a comment in the paper a couple weeks ago. I think maybe Andy said it. Anyway, the comment was that it was still taking some getting used to playing in the new arena. With so much stuff going on in the arena it was still distracting. I wonder if Blais would consider running practices under game conditions, i.e. stuff running on the video boards, replay screens, all the lights on during games, etc. I wonder if that might help the team acclimate. I'm pulling for Andy. Andy has done a great job for this program in the past few years. He's had a tough year, and I was one person who was concerned if he could be "the guy". But I was pulling for him and I still am. I don't like to see anyone struggling like he has at times, and hope he can come on for the Sioux. I also would like to see Brandt get some playing time. I am curious about Blais' comments vs. the article in the Minot paper. There seems to be a little discrepancy there. Also wondering if Hasbargen would be looked at on D? Or just a good hardworking F to light the team up a little. ####, bring back O'leary, Hasbargen and Fylling for that 4th line if there aren't enough hard workers on this team.
  15. I too, will give the guy a chance. It is not his problem, what he is walking into to. It's gotta be a tough position for him to fill. I wonder how the other goalies on the team will treat him. It could be rough for him.
  16. This may be one of those "messages" sent to the rest of the team. I also have some concerns about how effective this is going to be. I mean, really, how good can this guy be and if he is that good, why didn't another college woo him before the season began. But maybe, this is Dean's way of telling everyone on the team that he is not afraid to drop them in the pecking order if they don't get their act straight. Or drop them from the roster.
  17. Wait a minute, WildSioux. Give us the sequence of events here... If there was a delayed penalty on Mankato, wouldn't the goal have been disallowed because play would have stopped when the Mankato player gained control of the puck? OR, was the delayed penalty called AFTER the puck was in the air, but before the goal was scored? That seems like an awfully tight timeframe. IF this is the case, then there is no need to speculate on whether Andy can see the puck. However, it would not seem reasonable that this is the explanation. Not dissing you. But more details, please.
  18. I hope this "dad" isn't as wrong about Parise as he was about Hirsch going to Michigan.........Cause he ended up at UM.
  19. I read that Kollar basically skated straight off the ice after that second goal. It's been said that Blais pulled him but also that Andy pulled himself. Now, its gotta be embarrassing to let a second goal like that go in in a year, but I wonder why Andy would have pulled himself. If that is actually the case. Can anyone shed some light on this? I don't want to crumb on Andy, or anyone else. I will be critical of players from time to time but if they are down I am not going to pile it on if I can help it. They are still amateur athletes. Just curious if there is something going on with Andy or if anyone knows what happened in Saturday's game. I think someone somewhere once quoted Goehring as saying that Blais was difficult for a goalie to play for, or something that could have been interpreted that way. Could it be that Blais has put too much pressure on Andy? I don't know, just throwing stuff out there for discussion.
  20. I agree. I wouldn't have been so concerned if they would have bounced back tonite, but with this wimpering effort I am concerned with where this team is going. After the game Hennessey is saying that Blais mentioned he may bring in another goaltender at Christmas time if goaltending doesn't improve. This team apprears to me to be in a downward spiral. It needs some solid leadership. Blais was down on one of his senior captain defensman after the game. Really down on him. I hope this team turns around awfully quickly.
  21. Well, if true at least he won't be wearing maroon and gold. And that about covers both of em.
  22. I also have not heard much of anything about Fabian, but here is about the only place I've seen him mentioned: Click on "Preliminary Ranking" on the left hand nav bar. http://centralscouting.nhl.com/
  23. This is interesting. I saw a picture in one of the recent articles about this issue where a protestor is holding a sign saying something like "What if Priests were used as mascots". I'm Roman Catholic, and faithful. I have to think about this for a while but right off the bat I'm not sure that would be a problem for me, at least it would depend on how it is used, etc. However, aren't their teams with the nicknames of the Friars, and what about the San Diego Padres?
  24. I can't really argue against you Scott. You make a good point. I wish we would hear someone in that level of authority painting the side of the picture for everyone.
