  1. She can barely touch that walleye. She's not for him.
  2. I thought they handled the Sioux nickname thing very well. My favorite part is the little cowboy at about 2:11
  3. Bud Grant, Hall of Fame coach with 17-18 seasons behind him. 0-4 in the Super Bowl ...Hall of Fame....
  4. I'm no expert but as already stated the WHL has a lot of high end talent and younger kids. IMO that means highly talented players have a chance to put up a lot of points. My guess is that a good player will likely put up more points in the WHL than at the D1 level. I doubt Tambellini would be a point per game player this year at the D1 level, but you never know. And it doesn't mean he wouldn't be as good as he is now. Just harder to put up points at the D1 level, IMO.
  5. Completely agree that the National Anthem should be about the song, not the performance. I hate the the American Idol versions that are about the performance and not about the song. They suck the life out of me, right after introductions have revved up the crowd. The National Anthem, sung correctly (and like O Canada), is a great song with a ton of character. It should stand on it's own merits. It doesn't need to be prettified. I also agree, what's wrong with a version people can sing along too? I would think that would be an excellent tradition, if the crowd got way into singing the Anthem before the game. I know they do that elsewhere.
  6. BTW, no one is throwing Blais under the bus. They are making fun of statements made by other posters about why Blais is a better coach than Hakstol (or insert the coaches name here, if the coach was someone other than Hakstol or Blais). Blais is just the topic, not the target.
  7. And that's actually a good thing for all of us to remember through the process. Although Buckeye sounds better than Sun Dogs
  8. I hate that. Looked like a clean shoulder on shoulder check. I hate that results in a fight. I've got no issues for fighting to clean up the cheap stuff, but don't like the idea it's used to keep your guy from hitting my guy. I get the logic, but that's not part of the game I like.
  9. Yep, exactly! LOVE the Ghost Riders idea. Love it. And I'm all about a cowboy connotation with that. I'd go with a pure black logo with a relatively simple shape, silhouette related to a cowboy in some way. I'm not a guy who like all black uni's, but simple logos work the best IMO because they are so easily recognizable at any distance. For example, like the Lion's, Cowboys or Vikings. So an all black logo would work great with that nickname.
  10. I understand what you are saying, and I don't actually want Warriors as the nickname because I believe it's use is too pervasive in sports already. But I say we should be willing to fight these battles rather than knuckle under automatically because there is a point that is and is not appropriate, and the momentum to consider anything as "offensive" is already sliding too far IMO. So a stand needs to be taken at some point, by someone, and I think if we're on the right terrain we should fight and not bend over and take a bland boring nickname just because no one will care. Because.....then no one will care.
  11. I cannot understand why we would need to fear using the nickname Warriors. IMO it's an irrational fear and it's the kind of fight we should welcome (assuming the associated logo is appropriate)
  12. Hence, I still like this: http://forum.siouxsports.com/topic/15780-new-nickname/page-132#entry735382
  13. I actually love that name. It could be my #1 except that even for insensitive me, I have to agree it's hard to field women's athletics teams using that nickname.
  14. Personally, I think it's best if we take the chance and select a new nickname. BUT, Noiseinsidemyhead makes a lot of valid points that I agree with, should there be impetus toward not selecting a nickname. For me, I'm not scared of a bit of a showdown with the NCAA, if we pick the terrain for battle. And going toe-to-toe over no nickname may be good terrain. I also don't want to be scared of picking a name like "Vikings" (I'm not advocating this, just using it as an example). I get that it might violate the policy, but again, I think the terrain is favorable. At some point the NCAA may push this too far. There's enough gray area in using a nickname like "The Fighting Sioux" where public opinion can be swayed against UND. But at some point the terrain shifts, and the NCAA will no longer be on the higher ground. That's when they push too far, and they lose public opinion. I don't want to ignore great nickname options just because we're afraid of another battle, or because there's a slight chance that someone will object to the word "black" used in a nickname as an adjective. We can't just say "oh poor me, they might not let us do that". Evaluate each on its merits, discount those ideas that reasonably may be over the line and gird the loins if necessary.
  15. Love Yale's jersey. Can't stand orange and brown together. The color scheme is so ugly to me nothing else about the design matters.
  16. Ok, I'm going to be out of contact for the weekend, so here are my picks. If it's allowed, I'll throw in an alternate in case one of my original picks doesn't make the lineup? If that's not allowable, I understand: Friday - Cagiulla Saturday - Gaarder Alternate for either night if my pick isn't in the lineup - Ausmus
  17. If the White Sox nickname is not racist then I don't think there will be issues with the Black Stripes.
  18. Loved it until I tried visualizing a logo
  19. Ok, so here's an idea. IMO, the best logos are simple. For example, I think the Vikings have the best helmet in the NFL. Simple and straight forward. It's easily recognizable from a distance as well as still looks good close up. So, how about taking on the nickname of the "Black Stripes"? We're all familiar with the little black rectangle (censor bars) that censors out sensitive body parts on tv. Well, the NCAA censored UND's nickname. So we stick a simple black stripe on our football helmets and across the front of our hockey jerseys. Call ourselves the "Black Stripes" (hey, really think the "Red Sox" was all that cool when it was first proposed?). Simple, easy to recognize, unique, pokes a bit of a finger at the NCAA, non-offensive......
