  1. I just want to give a big shout-out to Jim Dahl for putting all of this data and analysis together. Not only does Jim provide a lot of data, he provides it in a timely manner, i.e. not before it's relevant, but right when it's interesting. AND he provides the detailed data for those that like to dive into that stuff, and a summary for the rest of us. Cudos, Jim! And thank you.
  2. Confirmed: My wife doesn't post on SiouxSports under the handle "siouxforcefans"............................... I agree. In my previous post I did not intend to communicate that I felt it was a bad experience. It just wasn't quite the Final Five experience we've grown so accustomed to over the last decade +. I actually like the downtown Mpls location as it's even closer to my house, and there are plenty of socializing opportunities close by, more so than at the X IMO. Looking forward to how this tournament experience develops over the next few years, especially as Target Center is updated.
  3. I doubt anything happens within the 5 years or so that the NCHC has a contract with the Target Center. Additionall, some time in the near future the Target Center is going to be upgraded. I'll be honest, I've got so many good memories of the Final Five at the X that it's a tough transition to the Target Center. That said, if it was the NCHC at the X it wouldn't be just like it was with the WCHA. Like them or not, gopher fans helped stoke the attendance numbers significantly, and helped to make for a dynamic environment. And that walk up W. 7th street was always festive, especially in nice weather. But with just NCHC teams, there wouldn't be the same number of fans and the ambiance would be different. The venue, right now, would be better. But if that's where we were and the ambiance wasn't the same, I suspect our opinions of the tournament would suffer because we are directly comparing the NCHC experience to the WCHA experience at the X. I'm willing to be patient and wait until the Target Center upgrades are completed before cementing my own opinion on the location of the tournament. And who knows, as the NCHC has time to learn and improve the tournament experience this could just be the start of a new, and great hockey tourney experience for the fans, at the Target Center. A friend has had all 3 of his daughters do foreign exchange opportunities during their high school days. Sometimes the kids are apprehensive but as his family has learned to grow through those experiences + their family's experience with foreign travel, he's said the lesson they've learned is that when you go to a new place, the mindset needed is "it's not worse. It's not better. It's just different." 'm hopeful in the end that's how we'll feel about the Target Center location in the long run.
  4. Now we know why they wear big hats and belt buckles
  5. Well, they have a (I assume highly paid) consultant that specializes in this sort of thing who is advising the committee. IMO that's even better than having him/her as part of the committee. Their job isn't to determine a new nickname and get caught up in those political issues. They can focus on the one thing they are good at....
  6. Curious if Bruce Plante is a good coach (6 straight title trips) or a bad coach (6 straight title game losses). Does he get credit for getting there? Or is he the reason they've never won?
  7. Can't believe he would complain about something like that. It doesn't sound like they came out while all the fans had not yet left the building. From what I read it sounded like the place was pretty much vacated, and at that point it's not rubbing anything in. Get over it.
  8. You got me there! I admit that's a word I've always had trouble spelling correctly.
  9. I didn't have your Mrs. Anderson, but must have had my own version because that's where I learned it too. (plus lend/borrow, regardless/irregardless, etc. But I can't diagram a sentance worth a damn)
  10. This backs of Mafia Man's point. Most people think Woog was a big homer, and hated him. Yet Woog was as good as anyone about ripping his own team and crediting the opponent. I actually loved Woog, even though he WAS a homer. He still called a spade a spade. At least someone got to see an overhead. We were disappointed not to see it on the broadcast, but we figured they must have watched it during the break, and decided it wasn't even close and therefore didn't bother to show the viewers. I think this is the biggest clue, to those of us who thought it may have gone in by watching the telecast, that this wasn't even close. The players or coaches didn't seem to protest, especially OD.
  11. I didn't say Schlossman broke the news. He just wrote a great piece.
  12. Ohhhh Fly To The Angels is phenomenal.
  13. The University of North Dakota Black Stripes
  14. oy, if you're that worried about calories, why not drink Guinness and get some flavor instead of your Miller Lites? Guinness only has about 126 calories to 12 oz where Miller Lite has 96 per 12oz. I'll "suffer" those 30 calories in that trade any day.
  15. More immediately, it sounds like "Burn the Ships!" is ripe for a chant starting at the first home playoff game........ Students, you're on point.
  16. IMO we have to get away from worrying about how opposing fan bases might desecrate a nickname choice. Almost anything can be modified in an unpleasant way given enough creativity. I say let's not worry about reducing the list of good names just because someone might use it to "call us names".
  17. Speaking of Schlossman and his excellent coverage of the program, the piece in today's paper ("burn the ships") IMO might be the best he's ever written. if you've not read it yet, make sure to check it out.
  18. You and I are on the same ship
  19. I'm not hip enough to figure out how to imbed a youtube video, but that's the way that it goes. Don't know why I've not seen any Tesla in this thread....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpiMTc_fPio
  20. Let's clean it up, shall we? You've been on the edge all day, and your posts have ceased to be cute.
  21. Yeah, but "Thunder Gods". :-)
  22. what? There's red headed beer? What's this world coming to...?
