To me, and I was only at Saturday's game, it seems the booing is losing some steam. It didn't seem as loud and the Sioux forever chant wasn't as enthusiastic either.

People are eventually going to just get bored with it.  The nickname selection is starting to become old news.  The emotions of the moment are fading, as will much of the energy behind the booing of the new nickname, UNLESS there is ever a sign that it might actually result in some sort of reconsideration.   Since that's likely not going to happen, the booing will eventually fade away.

  2. 77iceman, I really like your logo ideas.    I think I agree with the others regarding which they like best but they both work.   This kind of thing meets my logo criteria very well, and it's pleasing to the eye.  Good work!

I do think I like the greater curve involved in the logos on the helmets on the left, than the more gentle curve of those on the right.

The open records issue would limit some possible excellent candidates. They may have an issue of being identified as "job seeking" by current employer, so if not selected at UND they may lose favor for promotion where they now work.

Open records are not always in the institutions best interest......

I agree with this.  I can't believe the State of ND doesn't amend this law or rule for the purposes of ensuring that state institutions receive the best field of qualified candidates possible.    This is such a no-brainer in the business world (how often do people inform their employer that they are looking to leave before they actually do?)

It just doesn't make sense to do things this way.

Note for you Sioux fans living in the Twin Cities area...Local channel WUCW (23) is picking up the ASN feed for the January 30 (Western Michigan) and February 27 (Omaha) games.  If you a Comcast subscriber, the game can be found on Channel 8 or Channel 808 (HD).  If you have a decent antenna, you can find it on 23.1, 23.2 or 23.3.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for this!

Get rid of the bird head and it's not terrible.  Going with just wings would also be unique in the NCAA world, as far as I know at least.

I agree.  I kind of like the wings image.   I'm guessing that's borrowed from somewhere?  (I don't get around much)

This whole thing is beginning to have me question the quality of my UND education.  We have fanbase that is so upset about a nickname they had a fairly strong voice in choosing that they are willing to boo their own teams.  Meanwhile, these exact same people will turn out in November to elect the guy with the most responsibility for the loss of the old nickname (Wayne Stenehjem) the next governor of ND.  It doesn't really get any more idiotic than that.

No, they are booing a nickname, not the team.   that's pretty clear

Yes, Pontiac called it the Trans Am Firebird, so I'd guess that it's a phoenix also.

Agreed.   And for the Harry Potter fans you can almost make F'awks work (for non-fans, Dumbledore's phoenix was named "Fawkes")

    or, do we go with

Don't feel bad, I bought a shirt from a different vendor already. Oddly enough, the world didn't end when I put it on.

    That's crazy talk, right there.

C'mon man ... why the block font?

If you're going to spell out F'n Hawks why not us the official UND Athletics font. The words "North Dakota" at the top of http://undsports.com/ are in that font.

Because I have always hated that font.  Looks amateurish.  I prefer something more classic.

  9. RIP Glen!

He sure was a homer, but was fun to listen to.  Sad to see these guys go!

Exactly, a guy with great color/character.  Of course you hated him if it was a UND/MN game, but I think those kinds of characters just add to the fabric of the whole experience.   He was a MN goon, but he'd have been our hard nosed player.

  10. Whether UND stays with Midco in the future or jumps to FSN, I would love to see them get Clay Matvick to be the play by play guy.  The guy is a hockey announcing stud and has done very well foe a long time.  I realize that he does work for the grand daddy of them all network (ESPN) but would be great to see a guy like him come in and be the voice of UND hockey on TV.  A pipe dream I know, but hey, why not!!

Agree that I can't see it happening, but love the idea

  11. I wouldn't say the goaltending was poorer, but I get what you mean.  The equipment was different (smaller pads and trapper).  Goalies themselves were also generally smaller (the 6'3 goalies weren't common).  As a result, there was more open net to defend (and shoot at) and scoring was a little easier.  Though now you can make the argument that composite sticks give shooters an advantage they didn't have back in the eighties, but I think the open net area argument holds better.

I'm certainly no expert but the few times I've watched old hockey games that's certainly my impression.  Goalies were more stand-up, trying to kick out shots with their leg pads, etc.

  12. sorry you got the wrong UMD asshole. I never wore a shirt like that and i never sat in the upper deck at a final five. I sat with a group of gopher friends blue line lower bowl every year. I am an asshole just not one of those assholes. CAW

Holy smokes that makes you even worse!  :)

Makes sense.  I knew I was reaching a bit I simply thought it was odd Schloss kept putting it on the player.  Don't see that too often.

I will say I could see this either way, but had the same question creep into my head.

  13. Got to be happy with Schmaltz and Boeser making the prelim roster however as a bigtime USA hockey fan I am extremely disappointed with the makeup of the roster.  No Tuch, Roslovic, Conner, and Garland.  But they bring in a bunch of former NHL players' kids to play (obviously not talking about Tkachuk, he's great)?  Doesn't make a ton of sense.  Glad to see Borgen get a shot though.

sounds like Tuch isn't having a year like he had last year, but had a knee injury this summer.  I have no idea how that may (or may not be) affecting his play but it's plausible that recovery has kept him from being the player he was, and may factor in to why he wasn't chosen for this near-term tourney.  Just paper scouting here, and offering one possible explanation
