Good things happen when you work hard and crash the net. Genoway's goal really happened because Duncan got the puck centered, and Toews was crashing. Toews was denied but Genoway followed that lead and on his second try dropped and flopped backhander over Zaba. Before they were done with the replays Watkins scored. Only saw one poor replay but appeared Porter was open for a shot in the slot that was stopped but Watkins managed to get a rip on a loose rebound from a poor angle.

Great job by the 4th line to score a goal. The defenseman went behind the net to retrieve the puck, the goalie did the same, both from different sides. Forney came in, and that caused a problem for CC's lack of communication. The puck ended up loose, and Zajac picked it up behind the net and wrapped it around for the goal. Great hustle and effort.

At this point I don't care who we put out there, or who they play with. Put the dang puck in the net.

Glad to hear the Hak likes what he's seeing in the top 2 lines. Will be interesting to see how Miller/VandeVelde/Kozek line comes along. It would seem to me that VV has made a great case for "most improved player so far". Good for him.

I guess I never thought that "offense" is a rational emotion. What I mean is, I never thought I needed to decide if something was offensive or not. Based on my ethics and beliefs, I know if something is offensive or not. I don't need to make a decision or not. If I had to think about it, and decide to be offended, then I guess it really wasn't that big of a deal. Oh, and no one has a right to be offended. You either are, or you are not. According to the American Heritage dictionary, here is the definition of "offend": Some synonyms These aren't things you sit and ponder, and come to a conclusion. You are, or you are not. And that's one reason I struggle with the idea that the Fighting Sioux nickname is really that big of a deal. If someone has to sit and ponder whether or not this really matters to them, I guess it wasn't really that big of a deal. And if it was, then the reaction should have been pretty much immediate.

I propose that Dartmouth change their nickname to "the Custers". Maybe that would make their Native American friends feel better.
-
Holy smokes, Josie. Why not just put the Native Americans over your knees and beat them over the head, and then tell them how much pain you are causing them. Good grief. That's a pitiful display of so much that is wrong with the anti-name crowd. You may one day get me to agree that a university doesn't have the right to use a nickname based on another culture, but you'll not get me to understand that somehow that's causing them such great pain. Pathetic. She should apologize. She should apologize for fostering an atmosphere of needless victimization.

Thanks, Jfr. Right back atcha. Sorry about the Rutgers game the other night.

I would like to pick something that would stick it right back up the NCAA's you-know-what.

From what I understand there was one this past weekend. Same situation.

AA played Mankato tough down here last week. I would expect a couple of tough games in AA, and it always seems to me that it's hard to win up there. I hope for a sweep but expect to see a split.

Yes, Kersten is like the anti-Coleman in the Strib. If there are a lot of letters to the editor regarding her piece, I hope they limit the number, just like they did those in response to Coleman's opinion piece. At least Kersten interviewed people and presented some real facts (even if they were just the ones supporting her opinion). For the most part Coleman only threw out his own opinions, and bestowed his own judgements. Cudos to Kersten on a great piece, IMO.

I was only running in and out last night watching bits and pieces of the game and didn't see that.

Would love to have heard Motzko's postgame comments. MN gets a gift PP later in the 3rd and ties it up seconds after the ensuing kill. The guy in the box couldn't have even gotten back in the play, so the PP mattered. Woog even said it was a bogus penalty call, and I agree from what I saw. Of course, Schmidt didn't find it in him to call MN for almost the exact same penalty once SCSU got back down the ice. This isn't one of Goon's MN conspiracy rants. Just a comment about a bad penalty call.

Not much goaltending in the SCSU game. What a heck of a wrist shot by Nodl. Wow.

If you see someone wearing a Rutgers #81 jersey

You can go to jail for doing that, you know. -
Sagard, the zamboni is fantastic. Nice work. Must have done the paint job blindfolded, though...

I don't agree that McMurray should have rolled over without a fight, but you have to respect the job they did with their nickname. It's just difficult to understand how McMurray has to change, but the Seminole's don't. Pretty pathetic, if you ask me.

I think we need to be careful here. If the roles were reversed, I could see a scenario where I would protest in a similar way but I don't think it would mean I'd need to get a life. Sometimes that's all there is to do at a particular time. It hardly means they are losers. At least they are out there supporting their cause. They are doing pretty much what they can at this point in time. I say give them credit. They are out there supporting their position, even if it isn't the same point of view as ours.

Has the NCAA given up yet? Just checking in....

Well done, Glenn Mitzel.

I look forward to that weekend all year. The combo of good friends, and good hockey. Can't be beat.
