mikejm, I don't know that I am right and you are wrong, but I do have a difference of opinion with you on this. Genoway lead the rush that ended with too many Sioux players deep and and odd man rush the other way on Friday. And if I'm worried about my goalie making the save, I'm going to drop everyone who comes in to my area. I'm not going to turn my back and look for the puck. If I tie them up or take a penalty planting them, they at least cannot score. I'm not that knowledgeable about goaltending but this has been my impression too. While I wish for the same, I see someone like Don Lucia struggling to do the same. You cannot fault Lucia's ability to recruit, nor the great program he has to sell to recruits, but as Sagard said Gopher fans wish for the same. This must drive coaches nuts. It's not like forwards. If you miss on one they only take up 1 of 14 or 15 spots. Miss on 1 goalie....

I don't care who it is. I'd like to see Hakstol start sitting guys. No one is too important to sit for part of a game or a whole game. To correct our second period woes, if you mess up, grab a shower. If you mess up late in the 3rd. Grab a tie tomorrow night. We've got hungry guys that want to play (at least I presume), so let's start sending messages. I don't know why Radke didn't play this weekend. Was it a message? I don't know. But whether it is Porter making a critical mistake late in a game, or Lee, or Finley, or Toews. If you screw up, you sit. We're beginning to hear a common message. "We played pretty well, but we made a couple of critical mistakes." That, and the whole second period problem. Something's gotta change. It worked for Blais and Blake.

I watched last night but was too frustrated to post any opinions about the game, and was too busy today to get on the boards until just now. Looks about like last night all over again. Some good play at times, but overall, letting the game get away in the end. From what I saw last night I'd say this team has average offense, average goaltending, average defense, average penalty kill, and pretty good power play. Though tonite the power play appears to have been average. And last night it seemed to me we lost WAY too many important faceoffs. Where's McMahon when you need him... Maybe this team will turn it around, I don't know, but I'm getting pretty tired of living through the first 1/2 - 3/4 of the season to see if we can make a run. And right now, it's hard to have much hope that can happen. There's plenty of problems, but a lot of them could be fixed with 1-2 extra goals per game. I shouldn't say our offense is average. It's below average.

Is there going to be a crew at Sensers tonite?

Good points. Win the special teams battles, and play smart defensively.

Fair question. I once asked him where he was when he heard about it and that's what he told me.

My Dad was playing in a high school basketball game in Morris MN when they made an announcement about the attack over the speakers.

This doesn't mean I know anything about the situation. We may have lost a recruiting battle to Bucky for Murray, or we may not have had room depending on when he was going to come in and who else we either have or possibly preferred to get.

You should do a rendition of "Stand Up and Cheer" that we could download as a ringtone.

PCM, well stated. Much better than I could have. I would like to expand on your last point. Many opponents would say if this is such a trivial matter, why are Sioux fans fighting to keep the nickname. It's just a nickname, so it should be no big deal to change. Yes, it is just a nickname, but at some point you have to fight back against the idea that you should be forced to change just because someone else thinks they will feel better if you do. For this reason I think this is NOT a trivial fight. The issue is probably trivial, but the battle is important. These issues continue to crop up in our society and sooner or later it has to stop. I'm glad UND has drawn a line in the sand on this one, and I applaud President Kupchella for directing the fight. I probably cannot make my point very eloquently, but I hope you get my drift.

Thanks for the recap HS62

I can't believe I need to explain this... Are you really serious that MN develops players but UND doesn't? If you really believe that, I have to ask "am I the only one who sees games around here?".

Sweeney said the Sioux PP is 5th in the country, and it looked like it there. Even when the US team got 1 man back it looked like a 2 man advantage. It would have been a shame if the Sioux didn't score as they had opportunity after opportunity after opportunity. Schneider's doing a great job on the radio.

I wonder if a coach got in Finley's ear after the first goal. He was standing at the edge of the crease looking for the puck and the US player crashed the net, found the puck and put it in. Here's an idea, Big Joe, in that situation, how about you protect that area and make someone think twice about coming in. However, next shift there's a bit of a scrum and Big Joe is going Matt Greene on a US player who ends up on his knees. Keep it up, Joe.

Wow, Mankato is up 3-0 in the 1st? Didn't see that coming. Maybe MN needed a little wake-up call after last weekend.
-
2 min CFB on Lee. Miller had a great opportunity where he carried the puck out of the zone and blew by the D man, but shot high and wide.

Tim H just said Chorney has a lower body injury. Not sure how severe.

I think you responded to a comment I made about Genoway with something along the lines of "am I the only one who watches games around here". And here you pretty much have me asking the same thing.

Way to go President Kupchella!

You've never watched Carlos Mencia on Comedy Central, then.

Miller certainly has been a bright spot this year. If I remember after his great showing in the Mankato series Hak said he'd told Miller that he needed to give him a reason to put him in the lineup each week. I.e. he has to prove he deserves to be out there. After Mankato I think Miller was on a top line and after than was moved down. I haven't seen enough games lately but my assumption is that is because Genoway has been so effective as a forward, and maybe Miller's play has not been consistent enough? Again, just a guess on my part.

I'm not studied enough on the subject to try and portray this opinion as authoritative, but I would suggest the majority of Confederate soldiers didn't care much about slavery at all. What they did rally around was the whole state's rights cause, from which naturally the rich landowners would benefit. I also believe that the North invaded the South in order to defeat succession. Many southerners would likely rally to their cause for that reason alone. Most of these guys were poor farmers, I would bet, and didn't or couldn't own slaves. While slavery was certainly part of the cause they fought for, I think it's unfair to lump them all into the "slavery loving" camp. It seems to me little different than someone who voted for Kerry instead of Bush. It doesn't make them pro-abortion just because they did. There may have been other compelling reasons for them to do so. That said, I still don't know exactly where I stand on official government buildings, etc, flying the confederate flag. I don't have much of an issue with private use, but am not sure if that's appropriate on an official basis.
