We saw that too. Finally Anderson just pointed at the locker room and told Roe to move along. We yelled that at Dunn after his first goal! ("Dunn, you're done!). I just KNEW that was an original one.

Yes, because gasboy and a couple other friends and I are coming up for the games. Our record hasn't been stellar for the last several years: 2 ties against CC Loss and tie against AA Win and Tie against Duluth Win and Tie against Mankato

Are they protesting up at the Dakota Sioux Casino? Didn't think so.

I've never forgiven Motzko for parroting Lucia with the "whenever there is a fight you know the Sioux are involved". I guess you know why SCSU is the least penalized team in the league right at the start of the game when they play technopop dance music to start the game. Whoop Whoop, let's dance, ladies! We found it hard to believe they could cross-check our player in the back, after the whistle, and not get called. After the game the SCSU broadcast was interviewing Chris Anderson. He mentioned how the Sioux love to take shots after the whistle, and yap. He said that Motzko, in warning them to stay out of that kind of stuff, told them this before the game, and that "pretty much the whole league knows that's how they are". Well, just like the Badgers, look who is participating in the after the whistle stuff? I would love to know for sure if this happened. This was a great game to have a nice lead, because it allowed us to laugh at and mock Roe quite a bit. He was often whining to the officieals about being manhandled by the big, bad Sioux. The kid is a very skilled and talented hockey player, but needs to realize he's playing a man's game now. I read the posts in last night's thread about the goalie needing to "make all the saves they are supposed to and a couple they aren't supposed to". Tonite, from what I saw, I thought Phil did that. In the 2nd period he snared a wrist shot over his left shoulder that I thought for sure was going to be a goal (same shot that Duncan beat Dunn with), and he also dived across the crease during a mad scramble to knock the puck away at the last moment when a Husky player was going to push it into the net. Phil saved the Sioux bacon on a few occasions tonite when some bad decisions led to SCSU opportunities. It was interesting that near the end of the game, when SCSU was on the PP, my buddy pointed out that SCSU had NO ONE in the middle. All 5 guys were on the perimeter, and passing the puck around to each other. Knowing Siouxdonyms a little, I'd suggest we try parking him in Purgatory for a while, for starters. Great game to watch tonite. Sioux played hard and took advantage of their opportunities, I thought. Or most of them anyway. Still making some ill-advised plays with the puck in their own end, or failing to work the puck out when a chance exists which led to SCSU goals or good opportunities. This happened too many times. Eliminate those mistakes and the Sioux would be a tough team to beat. SCSU is a very talented offensive team, and they made most of those mistakes into good opportunities. It was fortunate that they did not score more. Great work by Zajac and especially Frattin to get the puck to the open Watkins for that 3rd goal. Roe may be a whiner, but he has amazing puck handling skills. It was actually fun/scary to watch him on the PP when he had some time and space because he was so shifty and it was hard to determine where he was going with the puck. VandeVelde showed some very very strong work on the boards. I thought Martens had a good game tonite, at least offensively. How about Finley as a +5 tonite? That's got to be hard to do. Genoway was a +4. Duncan was a beast tonite. Effective in all phases of the game. Hopefully the Sioux can build on this for next weekend. Nice to see 01grad (congratulations!), BigChief, Hrkac, NorthDakotaHockey, (Shawn-O was that you at Searles before the game? Was going to say hi but we were in a hurry to get to the arena and you looked, shall we say, pre-occupied?). Stood by a nice fella and his young son from down here in the Cities who were up for the game. Lots of great Sioux fans all over the place. I think the Sioux fans were as loud as the SCSU fans were.

Last year after the home sweep by Tech I pretty much gave up. I emailed my frustration to a former player I know who responded with a one word answer: "Patience". As the team went to the Frozen Four, I asked him what he knew that I didn't know. He responded with "I know how good a coach Hak is.". Hakstol may not be perfect, and there may be things he will do differently in the future, I don't know. I do know this. He's earned my respect and trust in how he handles the team on the bench and in the room. It's a long season and some things may not be fixed with a snap of the finger. That said, this is a frustrating season to sit through to this point. Like many others, I had higher expectations. However, I remember what I learned last year. "Patience"

After reading these pages, I noticed 2 pipes and a lot of good Sioux hockey. It's disappointing to have another meltdown in the 3rd, but the team shows the ability is there. It's not too late in the season, so my hope springs eternal. Tomorrow night the Sioux win.

Coach only suspended him for a game and took away his A. But we're being sanctimonious........ I'm guessing the coach knows more about the situation than most of us. If Hakstol needs to hand this down, then obviously there was a message he felt he needed to send.

Well, this board is here to talk Fighting Sioux sports, and specifically in this area, men's hockey. That might be your first clue as to why there was a difference. Lots of righteous indignation by a bunch of posters who supposedly were "in the know" about the circumstances of Oshie's arrest but no one was willing to share the apparently "true" details. To this point we still haven't any official confirmation, though we are supposed to believe the rumors now when we were criticised for not "having the facts" earlier. Then, there's still the small matter of Hakstol's 1 game suspension. THAT happens all the time to star players. If this rumor is true, and the facts as they have been presented to this point are accurate, I would agree this is a pretty silly situation, and I feel for Oshie. But Hak suspended him for a reason, and I don't think any one of the rest of us posters disappointed to see the star player sitting out a game for his after-hours conduct should be thrown under the bus.

Check out the ratio of Gophers to Sioux. Ok, I was just taking a swing at that softball there.

Audio is on AM 690 here in the Twin Cities.

I agree, azsioux, the Sioux cannot be taking bad penalties this weekend. St. Clown's pp is just too good. With Oshie out of the lineup tonite the Sioux cannot spot SCSU any more goals than they have to. I think the Trupp line will be key to the weekend.
-
People may still have the position that the use of Native American nicknames by non-native schools to be inappropriate, independant of any action by the NCAA. In that respect, they should not be criticized.
-
I agree. In discussing the Oshie incident a close friend of mine (a reader, not a poster) said he had read the discussions on this board related to the topic and found 90% trash and 10% reasonable discussion and decided he might be done with the board for good. That is after noticing an overall increase in trash talk over time. Thanks, moderators!

What's irking me is that all these people ripping on those of us who feel that Oshie screwed up won't comment on Hakstol's reaction to the news. He suspended TJ. Obviously Hakstol wasn't very happy with TJ. I'm guessing that most of us would probably have reacted about the same as Hakstol. Put a game or so suspension on Oshie and moved on. Instead, those of us expecting more from Oshie get ripped, while no one but azsioux (Hak did what he had to do) will address Hakstol's response. Why does Hakstol get a free pass from some of you when the rest of us are so "out of line"? I'd like an answer to that one.
-
We all need to make sure we don't react in a way they can twist, publicize and use against the pro nickname stance.
-
I don't see slamdance quoted in there anywhere. Guilty before innocent? Where's your outrage against Hakstol and Umile?
-
Hakstol and Umile saw fit to suspend both of their players. I'm sure they were just slapping them on the back and telling them how happy they were with them. If the coaches can be disappointed, I can be too.
-
Wow, how bad do some of you hate Hakstol today. I mean, Hak actually suspended him for a game. All we're doing is talking about it on the internet. I'm sure Hak was slapping Oshie on the back and telling him what a great guy he is while he handed down that 1 gamer, too. Umile gets the word from Radja and suspends him for at least 2 games. I guess Umile must be overreacting too. He, too, must have been just pleased with his boy during that conversation. I'm trying to figure out how, if these coaches reacted in this way, us fans can't be disappointed in these players as well?
-
Very well said.
-
Agreed. As a team leader it is an expectation. Won't stop me from cheering for him or the team the rest of the way. But if a player deserves praise for their accomplishments, they deserve criticism for their mistakes, on or off the ice. It's only fair.
-
Here's my thought. I already thought it would be tough for the Sioux to sweep this weekend. I suggest that the Sioux will win on Friday without Oshie, and lose on Saturday with Oshie. None of that is Oshie's fault. I just think every player on the team will feel they need to step up and fill in for Oshie on Friday, and on Saturday will be the sigh of relief that Oshie is back and everything will take care of itself. Except TJ can't win the game alone. Hey, it's just a prediction.
-
eh, we don't need him. You know, I could more easily blow this off if there hadn't been the Judy's incident last year. The team certainly doesn't need this sort of distraction, and as a leader Oshie needs to not be putting himself into situations like this. I don't know what he did so will reserve any more judgement until/if we hear more.
-
That's a pretty cool deal. Thanks for the story, Dave.

I'm watching intermitantly. I'm not big on the outdoor games but with the elements this one is pretty cool. I do wonder if a better game for this would be the all-star game vs. a regular season game. I'd also like to see a Canadian team and a US team in this game. Just seems right for some reason. I kind of like the Penguins uni's.
