Welcome to SS.com. The brackets still allow for a possible 4-team FF. Go Gophers. (... now I have to go wash my mouth out with soap ...)

after 2, SOG 21-19 SIoux, scoring chances 12-14 BU BUT 5x5, BU is getting nothin. I wonder if they even have 5 SOG even strength. Hard to say after giving 8 powerplays, BUT I think our guys have done a pretty good job adjusting to the new definition of penalties. Keys to the 3rd: Keep the feet moving. Keep your stick to yourself. Be patient. Let Jordie see the puck.

After every (well almost every) PK or PP, the Massen-Fabian-Canady line comes out, and keeps the puck consistently in the other end. Territorial advantage is proving to be key, b/c the refs aren't letting defenders do ANYthing. Ugh. I hate this reffing style, even though its been consistent so far.

I repeat, after watching the BC- Mercyhurts game, KEEP YOUR STICK TO YOURSELF.

I thought it was intentional. I heard that great writers always leave in one mistake.

Great thread, gang. I'll confess to being critical of a number of seniors for their play eariler this season. What was tougest to see was multiple guys playing far below potential. No, I don't expect Massen Fylling and Canady to be the second coming of Tony Hrkac, but they we're not performing anywhere near the level they are capable. But in the last month, we've seen players playing much closer to potential. After what this crew has been thru, takes Attitude, takes Guts, and all the other qualities that define Characeter, that we've admired in Sioux hockey players for over 50 years. Seeing it on the ice reinforces what we believed all along, and that it is truly better late than never. As to this weekend, I have a good feeling about it. Call me crazy, but I think their best hockey is still to be played. Win or lose, though, gentlemen, thanks for the ride.

I think you should read it. Would it help if I said he paid me to shill his article?

http://www.uscho.com/news/2005/03/25_010468.php On the topic of the hit on Bina, I am especially impressed by his ability to remove strong personal feelings from the content. Textbook journalism. Excellent read.

Moooo-hhhoooo-hahahahah!!! Time to get creative. NOTE: This is not a transcript. This is not anything remotely resembling quotes. Any resemblance to fiction, fact or reality is total and complete coincidence. This is because I just make this s&!t up as I go. Comments attributed to "Coach" below are in no way intended to reflect what any current past or future Sioux coach would say. It might be what they are thinking, but this is 100% fiction. This writeup is devoid of any nutritional value whatsoever. Last, the NCAA and its member schools encourage good sportsmanship and courteous behavior. Any offensive behavior will be grounds for expulsion from this writeup and possible future disciplinary action. [somebody else can write the TH interview part] Caller: "Is it true you've put a bounty out on Paukobitch?" Coach: "NCAA rules prohibit discussing bounties." Caller: "Does BU suck as bad as everyone says they do?" Coach: "I can't say, but well, they lost to Minnesota." Caller: "What's your strategy against BU?" Coach: "We're gonna ride the Horses that got us here." Caller: "Did you scout the POI - SS game on Sunday?" Coach: "Yes, and I was so impressed with the SS goalie that I told Gwoz about him. Make of that what you will." Caller: "Will Wisconsin beat Michigan?" Coach: "Frankly Miss Piggy, I don't give a hoot." Caller: "How do you feel about getting evicted from the Ralph this week? For basketball, I mean, like it must be like totally humiliating dude -" Coach: - "The ice is better at Gambucci anyway." Caller: "Do you have air and hotel reservations in Columbus?" Coach: "Hell, yes!" That's all I could hear before the internet feed died. HELP! They're here!!! HELP! It's the fiends from the NCAA, I mean the castle of ARRRGHHH... [crickets chirp]

I think Mankato, St Cloud or UMD should host the West Regional at the Xcel. The worst it would draw would be 7-8k, at the best that could happen is more than at anywhere else out west.

Let's hope that Jack Parker scouted the Sioux by watching Dataflix.

I thought the same thing. CC plays so under-control against everybody else, or so it seems, but against DU last night they took some really dumb penalties and got lucky that they didn't get called on a bunch more. DU must really have gotten under their skin.

South Dakota hasn't played against Boston U since 1997, when Boston U won the national championship. I am fine with our bracket. All the #2 and #3 seeds are so close together you could throw a small blanket and cover them all. Same for the top 3 #1 seeds. The reasons I LIKE the bracket: 1) Worcester is a regular ice surface. Not big ice. 2) BU is not playing well lately, and that is as good a first-round matchup as we could expect. (would you rather play MI in GR? New Hampshire? Ohio St? not much difference by my rationale) 3) We got the #2 seed, which is the objective method, not the new subjective process. That means we get last change vs BU, which will make it tougher for them to exploit matchups, and give Hak the flexibility to get matchups we like. 4) We already played BC at BC and we played them tough. No "mystique" for our guys about going out east and playing eastern schools. 5) There's no WCHA teams in our bracket. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I like our chances. PS CC got screwed in the first round matchup.

He got less ice time because he made a couple mistakes on the shift that led directly to Minnesota's first goal. If you didn't see it the first time, watch a tape - his stick gets lifted, he gets outmuscled, pass goes over to Irmen and bang! the otherwise-dead Gophers get on the board. He will be fine; he's got good hands, good skating stride and agility, and does a lot of things well. A summer of weight-training and he'll get the extra strength needed to excel in the WCHA.

This year, more than just about any year, I think there's very VERY little to choose between the 14 teams from major conferences. Drawing the CHA or AHA winner is a bona-fide advantage, but any other opponent is about equal ...

http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/11176685.htm Tyler Koenig to transfer to UND, according to the GFH. Good news.

Patrick, well said, as usual. I can understand the occasional missed call, even including a high stick here and there. But when it becomes a pattern, it becomes the fault of those who let it happen. The only consolation is the far-too-rare situations where post-game suspensions are handed down.

In the first period, we really laid the body on Wisconsin. They did some too, but I think it slowed them down a bit. One more tip of the cap to BRADY MURRAY for sheer fearlessness. Just like UMD did, WI was bumping checking hitting him every chance they got but he still stuck his nose in and took a bunch of hits ... I cringed everytime it happened, but thankfully he didn't. Murray-Zajac had a number of close miss chances last night. Overall tho, I think we got lucky that Wisconsin couldn't finish. Lot of times where a guy was open in front of the net or had a potential break and the puck bounced over a stick or the pass was off. Better-scoring teams (any of the other 3 left) will more likely make us pay. On the SHG, I kept waiting for Fuher to just haul the Badger dude down, but he didn't. A little surprised he didnt, what with a 2-goal lead, us on a PP, and WI not very effective on the PP. Effort was outstanding, guys really moved their feet well. And the whole lineup played, which should help us with legs today. With the win last night, it may be mathematically impossible for us NOT to make the NCAA's, so I wouldn't mind if the coaches take the opportunity to rest some guys who are dinged ...

A lot of us think of UND as a sudo D-1 team ...

Hard to imagine more than 10-11k at Thursday night's game ... 8-9 more likely.
