  1. Saw the game yesterday. Lewis didn't have a classic post player, instead used the center on the perimeter to set picks, pulling Langen away from the basket. And we never did get the defensive rotations set up to key on their best players, who kept getting open looks until the final buzzer. I think Gene has a real live conundrum for the first time in a while. Do you play the good defensive players who are simply not scoring (Jahner, they quit guarding in the second half), or do you put in good offensive players who aren't good defensively (Kimbrough, who is magic on offense but failed to box out at least twice and is too slow to rotate on D). Maffin was solid and looked healthy. Beck played an overall very good game, with the only observation that she passed up a fair number of open looks. Reportedly, the coaches demanded an increase in conditioning after Tuesday's loss. I think that's another good thing to focus on.
  2. Epic performance by the Sioux offense. Manke with one of the greatest games in all of Sioux Football history.
  3. Take that curse and ... WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!!
  5. Gotta milk the clock too ...
  6. Let's win this in regulation. GO SIOUX!
  7. Thank you. (Even a blind pig will find a cob of corn every now and then.) The more I think about it, it would be a good idea at all road games. (But especially Dartmouth.)
  8. Gut check time. Time to show character.
  9. Thanks to the leadership at Dartmouth, we get a front row seat to witness the heights of hypocrisy. Dartmouth has adopted the Roy Saigo strategy - when there's racism in your own house, blame UND. The various discriminatory events at St Cloud have been pretty well documented, so I won't rehash that here. And we're all familiar with Saigo's strategy. Dartmouth, I am less familiar with. But there is a fair bit of fuss inside the college that created complaints from Native Americans inside the college. [EDIT - additional info] If this stuff is true, then its Dartmouth that really has the problem. http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2006111702020 "During Homecoming, Indian t-shirts were sold depicting a Holy Cross Crusader performing oral sex on the image of the Indian. On Columbus Day, two students disrupted a Native American drum ceremony, running into the circle and taunting the participating students (if you can't picture this, imagine someone screaming obscenities in the middle of a church service). The "cowboy and Indian"-themed crew formal was rightly called out as inappropriate." In fact, the president of the college wrote a companion letter in the Dartmouth. http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2006112101060 I don't have all the facts, and cannot judge whether what happened at Hanover was inappropriate or not. But I have a hard time picturing a UND athletic team doing a "Cowboys and Indians" event. If that's what is really going on at Dartmouth, then their problem is internal, not external. The other hypocrisy I see is the apparent selective criticism of UND. In fact, the Dartmouth women's basketball team played none other than the Central Michigan Chippewas last week. Where's the criticism of Central Michigan? I leave it to your imagination ... http://scores.espn.go.com/ncw/clubhouse?teamId=2117 ============================= What should UND do? I suggest that when UND hockey plays there in December, that UND ask the Dartmouth public address announcer to read the same announcement that is read at UND home hockey games. Most of us know this by heart: "UND adopted the Fighting Sioux nickname in the 1930's to honor ..."
  10. Matt Greene, no points in a 2-1 Edmonton win. But his 5 hits led both teams. Now there's a shocker. http://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=261121006
  11. We're coming up on midnight. The fun is over for Cinderella. GO SIOUX!!

  16. Its an omen: http://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=261117011 New Jersey wins:Zajac #2 star (3 assists) ,Parise #2 star (1 goal, 2 assists). (Heatley 0 points, Eaves 0 points.) The night is off to a good start.
  17. SPAM-alot is coming to St Paul next summer. To Siouxsports.com its here now.
  18. This thread should be in the Hall of Fame. Simply outstanding.
  19. Nice analysis, gang. If I ever get to be half as smart as you are, I'll become twice as smart as I am now. What is going on inside the NCAA? I think their "social engineers" ("bullies" in my grade school) looked around for the easiest target (Native American nicknames), and picked the one they thought had no possible defense. They thought the schools using Native American nicknames would simply cave. Along the way, they are getting some education. Now that's what you'd call ironic.
  20. http://www.gophersports.com/ViewArticle.db...p;ATCLID=684858 The first half was very sluggish with neither team scoring until Coleman made a short jumper almost four minutes into the game. The Bison took a 5-2 lead with 13:14 to go but Minnesota went on a 12-0 run that spanned over six minutes to lead 14-5 with 6:57 remaining. McKenzie fueled the Gopher offense with two threes and a fastbreak layup consecutively. North Dakota State came right back and pulled within 16-14 on two free throws by Smith with just under four minutes to go in the half. The Bison kep the lead to two points before Coleman scored and was fouled with 1:27 left. He made the free throw and the Gophers took a 23-18 lead into the half. Both teams shot poorly with NDSU making just 6-29 from the field (20.7 percent) and Minnesota hit 10-31 (32.3 percent).
  21. 40 is not old, IF you sieve the other goalie. Gut says yes, you do sieve the other goalie. (Farce world old=quiet, young=noisy.)
