  1. Here is some proof for you. Read the CSS report on Gopher David Fisher-I will give you he is a different player if you give me he had better hands and feet than Finehage does. Watch Fisher this weekend and tell me he is all he was cracked up to be. Right now, he is a four year player.

    1. I've seen Cory play since PW.

    2. Maybe Fisher would have develped differently had he attended a different school. ;)

Seriously, there are never any guarantees (see Jason Herter). Cory is on track to be a high draft pick and a 2-3 year player. We'll see what actually happens.

  2. Four for sure? Maybe you never saw Mike Commodore, Matt Smaby, Joe Finley, Matt Greene when they first came here. Different people develop at different paces, but to say 4 for sure is odd in light of the names I just put forth. Also, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he an "A" prospect. If not, I thought he was highly regarded in some circles.

Finehage is a CSS A prospect - you don't get on that list by accident. Doesn't guarantee him being a high draft pick but it is a good indicator what NHL evaluators think of him.

    Typical Gopher envy/jealosy. :D

  3. I think Gleason and Fienhage would both be better off if they played a year of USHL.

Because they will both be drafted fairly high (round 2-4), 1 year in USHL is 1 less year with the Sioux - neither is a 4 year college player.

  4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time they did their remote broadcast from there, the Wooger predicted a Sioux sweep. Although, it sounded a little like he was just pimping the Sioux..Either way, Woog was again wrong as the Gofers swept UND.

Did they do a remote b-cast there before the 06 Regional?

  5. Bump, per coaches show.... I was actually thinking of this because I watched Matt Jones play last night at the X. By my count currently 51 siblings have played for UND (including 1 female). 55 when David Toews, and Mario Lamoureux play their first game. Maybe we will see the Bruneteau family added to this list, there are at least 4 of them. Maybe there will be another Zajac at some point as well.

  6. another hrudle in the ncaa tourney is where you get placed and seeded of course. the ncaa has intentionally put minny and the sioux in the same regionals to prevent a 2005 frozen 4. hell they dont want 3 either which they will continue to do their best to prevent that.

i think michigan and miami will be up there all season. michigan at least plays wcha teams and tougher non ccha oppenents than miami. miami will be a 1 or 2 and done team in the ncaa tourney. just wait and see. good year for cc to step it up with hosting a regional this season. again its very early so things could change big time over the next 3-4 months

If you look at the pwr from 2006 the teams were seeded very routinely, only moving teams to avoid 1st round conf. matchups and placing hosts in their region.

The last few years the brackets have been very predicatble once the final games have been played.

  7. I know it is early - but ...

Have you seen the schedules for Miami/Mich for the rest of the year?

    Miami Schedule

    Michigan Schedule

It's hard to find many losses here. The CCHA is hardly a meatgrinder this year and they only play each other twice this year in the reg season.

Unless disaster strikes for either team, it looks like 2 #1 Seeds are pretty much locked up. CC and Denver are strong contenders for another #1 seed. Our series vs. UNH is huge if we want to contend for a #1 seed this year (obviously).

On the other hand, do any of the above team want to see UND placed in their region? I don't think so.

Question - When have we been a #1 regional seed lately (1997 - 2007) and how have we fared?

  8. 2004-2005 October/November record: 9-5-2 (7-4-1 WCHA)

    2005-2006 October/November record: 8-5-1 (4-4-0 WCHA)

    2006-2007 October/November record: 7-6-1 (5-4-1 WCHA)

And this season in October and November: 6-4-1 (4-4-0 WCHA)

Footnote: In 06-07 we lost 4 home games in a row to start Dec. - Wisco. and MTU - which made us 5-8-1 in the WCHA before the break.

  9. ~Nope the Sky is falling, all is lost. Pack it in for the Season.

~Sioux fans are Halo's expect our team to win every game.

    ~Fire Hakstol.

~The Refs suck and are out to get UND.

    ~Lammy is a Sieve.

~Sioux fans only care about playing tUMN.

    Season's over.

    Is Brian Lee wearing #4?

  10. Seeing people like you gives hope for people like me. And I bet Blais expected all of his teams to run the table, and even if they didn't he made damn sure they at least had the goal when they started dry land training. The result? Two Titles.

    Take off your Blais-colored glasses.

FYI - I believe Dean Blais hired Dave Hakstol. Do you think Blais made a bad choice?

Make sure you come back to the board and bash the coaching staff after they make their annual trip to the Final 5 finals and Frozen 4. And if we get hot and win it all, coaching will have had nothing to do with it.

  11. I'm going to say it: This team needs to grow up. Fast.

    POINT ONE:

This team doesn't come prepared to play on Saturdays. I suspect it has something to do with what it does after a Friday home win.

Don't tell me this non-sense about how the opponent stews about a loss all day Saturday in a hotel and comes in with more fire. That team is on the road and not sleeping in their own beds, eating road food.

The home team has it easier because they can be in their routine, at home. But if that routine includes (yeah, I'm gonna say it, because I'm thinking it) Judy's or similar on a Friday of course they aren't going to be sharp Saturday. They were not sharp Saturday. They looked sluggish. They looked slow. They looked off. They looked hung over. I hope I am wrong, but that's how they performed; that's how they looked.

I pay for season tickets to see two sharp performances, win or lose. I deserve a refund for Saturday against both UMD and CC. And I deserve an explanation of what caused the poor performance. And if it's poor choices I deserve an apology. So do the rest of you.

    POINT TWO:

Saturday should be a stern warning to this team. They've been very lucky the last couple of seasons.

Every second-half bounce went their way. Even so, they were the last "at large" bid to the NCAAs last year. The last. As in one bad bounce from no bid. As in an 80-footer going in, or a cross-bar, and stay home. Sound like last night?

This team has all of the returning talent. It should have itself in a position that it is a sure-fire lock for the NCAAs before the second half. Instead we have splits at home and a questionable record.

With previous teams I preached patience because they were young. There is no excuse for this team: It is failing to meet expectations. It needs to grow up and start meeting expectations. And quit expecting to "turn it on". It could bite you. It might not happen.

This "unfinished business" talk is hollow until you follow through.

You are failing to show you are serious.

    Season's over. :D

  12. big difference is ness will be at umtc next season after advancing his studies and mattson wont be in until 2010. school wise ness is advancing but age wise i think he just missed the cut off for only being considered a junior instead of a senior this year.

any younger players from warroad or roseau that are getting attention besides the landman and lee and the players already commited?? thanks just hard to keep up wit the northerner kids here in az :D

Ness Bday 18-May-1990, just a few days younger than Cory Fienhage and about a month older than David Toews.

  13. what list of players are up for the draft this summer that we have coming in for 08 or 09

i know gregoire and blood, eidsness and bruneteau have already been drafted.

i think this is a start for the guys who will be drafted...thanks

    Toews

    Cichy

    Fienhage

    Gleason

Draft Eligible that are on CSS watch list:

    A players

    Fink

    Fienhage

    Toews

    Kristo

    B players

    Cichy

    Gleason

  14. I think it would be ideal if we could get two defenders and keep Fienhage and Gleason as 09's. From what I've heard, Fienhage is quite raw and would benefit alot from playing a year in the USHL as would Gleason. If they don't, I think Gleason is the guy who would come in next year.

If Fienhage is a 1st/2nd round draft choice this summer (he's currently an A player on the CSS watch list), he won't want to play a year of jr. - and we wouldn't want him to. It would mean one less year at UND - he won't be a 4 year player.

  15. I was trying to compliment your program. From the outside it looks as if you measure yourself against Minnesota in everything. You don't need to do that. You have a tremendous program that doesn't need to out recruit Minnesota for a kid to give it credability. UND stands on its own. The inferiority complex many UND fans seem to have, it doesn't fit your place in College Hockey. With your recent success reaching the Frozen Four, the team and expectations of this year, and recruiting success, I think UND is the measuring stick. Be proud, not obnoxious as some of our fans are and were during our run in early 2000's. Its cyclical, enjoy your current post.

Just clarifying my earlier post. Not trying to judge, our fans are as guilty as any. Rip all you want, it was a compliment.

From most Sioux fans, I see tremendous pride in program that started in a "barn" in the late 40's that is now regarding as a top 5 program by any objective hockey observer.

What I see from most Gopher fans is snobbery and disdain - "How could _______ ever want to go to school up in Grand Forks?"

Like our team, if you take a shot at us, we'll give right back - only harder.
