Looks like you already got this but here is what I have assuming the Hamilton thing is true (Which I personally have no reason to believe or doubt).
Goal (3):
Philippe Lamoureux
Aaron Walski
Anthony Grieco
Defense (8):
Robbie Bina
Taylor Chorney
Brian Lee (will he stay, we should know by June 1st?, yeah right...)
Joe Finley
Zach Jones
Chay Genoway (will he play forward if Lee stays?)
Derrick LaPoint
Jake Marto
Forward (15):
Rylan Kaip
Kyle Radke
TJ Oshie
Ryan Duncan
Andrew Kozek
Ryan Martens
Brad Miller
Matt Watkins
Chris VandeVelde
Darcy Zajac
Michael Forney (will he be healthy enough to play?)
Brad Malone
Evan Trupp
Brett Hextall (Is he still a 2007?)
Matt Frattin (does this speak to Hamilton or the health of Forney?)
I'm sure the coaches would rather have Genoway play D - why waste a year of experience playing the hardest postition in the toughest league in the country. I'm sure they projected one of their highly drafted D would have left by now.

I never found a good one at the Pepper.
Never good - always great!!!

But you can have a nice recruiting class without high draft picks. Seems to me the Hobey Baker winner was a great recruit and he wasn't drafted. Ideally you would like a few top draft picks because that means they have a prototypical body, but some prototypical types aren't stars in college. (See Barry Tallackson and Brad Winchester for examples). A good mix is what I would like, that way you can have some continuity in your recruiting and have a few more upperclassmen, as well as having top-end talent.
Who's our 06/07 "top end" talent?
Also - the NHL also "misses" - see this year's SC winner -a few undrafted free angents + a few top 10 players = championship.
Bottom line - you need both.
-
LOL, Fetch..
One thing I might want to expand on while UND will have players drafted, it seems that a few of our recruits aren't going to go in the first two rounds except for Malone. Maybe we can keep some of them more than two seasons.
Be honest - you should want to have players on your team that have the talent/skill to be considered in the top 10/50 in the world for their age - that is what we have had here for the past 5+ years. It's not like those players aren't out there - they are choosing other colleges - mainly UM and UW.
There may be better days to come (08/09) but the 06 & 07 recruiting classes have to be considered thin on skill compared to the others we have had recently.
We can't have it both ways - when we have high draft picks, we promote that fact proudly as a sign of good times ahead. When we don't, we should be honest and not try to rationalize - "Hooray - they'll be here longer."
-
No kidding, I am more than happy to take a year off...
On the other hand, it may be a barometer of the precieved talent level of our '89 class. We have had some pretty good success over the last 5 years, which included many UND representatives at the WJT.

The Exiled One mentioned him earlier and was being talked over on GPL, but one kid to maybe watch out for is Corey Fienhage who is a d-men from Eastview. I haven't seen him play yet and he should be up here this fall for the hs elite league but he's been a little bit under the radar up until this point and has impressed people at the Select 17s.
I saw him first

I don't see VandeVelde playing with Osh and Duncs next year unless he plays wing because I believe everyone is looking at this in the wrong context. I would be willing to bet that Osh centers Duncs and someone else. He has played center pretty much all his life until college where he was put on a line with two pretty naturally gifted two-way players in Zajac and Toews. I would be extremely surprised if Osh doesn't atleast start out the year as the center on the top line.
I think the coaches are smart to keep TJ at wing - as hard as he plays, keeping him at wing keeps him out of the corners/down low in the D zone coverage - the center's have that job. It's not that he can't do that job - it's just less wear on tear on a player that has a motor that has one gear - full speed.

I was watching overtime. Turned my head for a second and the game was over. Didn't even get to see the goal.
Neither did Miller

Tavis Zajac? and Darcy of course.
Don't forget James Patrick

andy murray was the coach and his family has been screwing the Sioux ever since his son decided the Swiss route was the way to go.
don't smile - I talked to people connected to SSM and a certain family is not saying nice things about our program - notice where little brother decided to to go?
-
I guess he's a former player -
Hunter Bishop just got picked by Lincoln in the USHL Entry Draft (3rd round/29th overall)

Here is a list of the Minnesota players invited to the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival in St. Cloud on July 7-13. One of our commitments, Joe Gleason is on the list with some other prospective recruits. Besides Gleason, the only other commitment that could be invited would be Cichy.
Forwards
Tyler Barnes Burnsville
Ryan Bohrer Cretin
Marshall Everson Edina
Mike Fink Hopkins
Keegan Flaherty Duluth East
Luke Greiner Shattuck
Ben Hanowski Little Falls
Tyler Landman Roseau
Matt Leer Edina
Zach Lehrke Park Rapids
Danny Mattson Holy Angels
Jordy Murray Shattuck

This thread has a way to watch the game via the net.

It's 4-4 now....5 1/2 minutes to go. Andrew Hutchinson(?) with the game-tying goal on the PP for the USA.
Overtime!!!

There are the Modano, Tkachuk, Amonte aged players and then there are the Parise, Kessel, Suter aged players with little in between. Other than Gionta and Gomez, who is there in that gap? At least the goaltending should be set with Miller, Dipietro and Frazee
The US is screwed in the Olympics in 2010. Unless Chris Chelios plans on playing that is. A 50 year old defenseman would be awesome!!
If USA hockey was smart, they would go "young" in 2010 - let the young yet more talented players get Oly experience to build a core for 2014
-
Lats year they Wisconsin ranked first.......that worked out well for them
I actually think UW is being underrated and UM overrated. I think Turris and McDunough will make a big impact for Bucky. If Goligoski leaves, the Gopher blueline is a big ?
This Sioux are ranked just about right.
-
Not arguing that point. I'm saying that I'm not sure players attend Shattuck to be noticed by UND or to better their chances at playing at UND. A lot of great players have come from the BCHL and from the USHL or from high school hockey other than Shattuck.
It seems ludicrous to me to say "He's going to Shattuck so he'll be on UND's radar."
They also go to other schools - see Wisco recruit class of '08

Good to hear...amazing, for the 2007-2008 season (2-3 potential Hobey finalists, including the returning Hobey Baker winner), our strength may actually be our defense! Hope everyone paid for their season ticket renewals because I suspect you'll wish you had.
If True - LOGJAM!!

UW loses their top 2 scorers - Joudrey and Dowell - in addition to Carlson (4th scorer), Brandt, Likens, Olinger, Elliott, Skille, and Piskula.
That's 4 of their top 5 scorers and their starting goalie. Even with an impressive incoming class, that's a lot of people to replace, and to expect a bunch of frosh to fill those roles is asking a bit much IMO.
I think the Sioux will be in a similar situation in 08-09.
Yes they will be young - welcome to the new WCHA - but they are young with high-end talent.
They will be better next year and then watch out in 08-09.
By 08-09, we probably won't have a 1st round draft pick on our team (Forney Rd 3 might be the highest draft, depending on where Eidsness and Malone go this year) - when is the last time that happened?
-
Looks like Toews may have officially been added to Team Canada. Makes me nervous the way they described him as a Chicago Blackhawk. Did he sign today?
If he didn't sign maybe we should ask the news service to make a correction to unclude him as a UND hockey player.
http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...canadian_hockey
The news article above was been edited to include mention of Jonathan Toews as a prospect and mentioned his playing time at UND.
If JT does stay at UND, but gets off to a slow start next year, we can blame it on the fatigue from playing in the World Tournament in May ... wait - fatige from international competition is just an excuse for Gophers.
-
That UW/Cornell regional game was insane. I fell asleep a couple of times!
UW looks to have a couple of very good incoming classes in the next few seasons, this season and then when all those SSM players come in the year(s) after that. But Turris might be gone by then.
I think that UW could struggle again this season. Losing their best forward in Skille, an All-American caliber goalie in Elliott, and a good group of seniors will be hard for even a very talented group of frosh to replace. UW is in the same boat as SCSU...Connelly and Weslosky both have big skates to fill.
At least they replaced their best forward with a top 5 draft pick ... plus adding a top 15 D - I think they will be better in 07-08.

Yeah! Now we can stop the "Genoway should play forward" postings.
