  1. Boy, the posters over at GPL (for the most part) are taking it pretty hard about their beloved Puffy getting canned. In the little over 24 hours that it was announced that Puffy was released, they've almost had as many posts for his cause than discussing the upcoming games this weekend. They are taking it harder than Puffy seems to be (at least from what Puffy has said about his release on the air). It's pretty amusing really. I'd be curious to their reaction if it happened to someone other than their Puff God. Nooooooooooooo..............not Puffy!
  2. You're right, the answer wouldn't be that. The ACC - Big Ten Challenge is a tournament set-up each year that Wisconsin is required to take part in. As a result, they have no say over who is scheduled to play them. Also, Wisconsin will play teams within their own conference (Illiniois and North Dakota for instance) because they have no say over those games or in tournaments where they end up playing a school with a Native American name. What Wisconsin says they will not do is schedule games against Native American nickname schools where they have control over scheduling, i.e. regular non-conference games. Sorry if you were being sarcastic or not or if you knew Wisconsin's actual policy.
  3. Hey, #1HakFan, I'm assuming these recruits aren't calling you or coming up to meet you and telling you that they are here and since it isn't the recruit calling you, there is only one other type of source that we all know where the information could ultimately be coming from. Do you think that these sources want you telling all others on message boards what this undisclosed, nonpublic information is even if you are only giving your childish "hints"? You have to have some discretion in the information that you post and to have some respect for the ultimate source of the information. OH YEAH, AND ONE OTHER THING, REMEMBER WHEN FS1 PM'D YOU A FEW MONTHS AGO ABOUT A CERTAIN GOALIE RECRUIT? YOU WERE BOASTING THAT YOU KNEW WHO IT WAS AND WERE GIVING HINTS AS TO WHO IT WAS. REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE WRONG ABOUT THAT RECRUIT AND HE TOLD YOU THAT IT IN FACT WAS A DIFFERENT GOALIE. GUESS WHERE HE GOT THAT INFORMATION FROM? YES ME. So yes, I do have the inside information. I just choose to use it in a respectful manner. But the difference between us is that I choose to keep private information private and respect my sources and respect the potential problems that this information could cause if I kept repeating it on message boards. It hasn't had any harmful ramifications yet on a recruit, but you never know when that one time it might. Maybe you should take a minute and think about how the ultimate sources would want you to act and how they would want you to handle the information that you know.
  4. That's fine but the point of my previous post was that some of us also have the same information but we don't feel the need to brag about it or infer that we are better than the rest because we don't have to read message boards or newspapers to get our information. Also, discretion should be made when posting information that hasn't been made public if we want to continue to have access to that undisclosed information. I'm sure the powers that be would prefer that inside information isn't spewed on message boards prior to that info being made public let alone having someone brag about their "sources".
  5. Boy, Hakfan, you're my hero because you don't have to read message boards or newspapers to get your info. You're a superstar. Some of us also have the same information you do, but we don't feel the need to go onto a message board and boost our egos by proclaiming to all that we know someone close to the program. Let's all bow down to Hakfan because he doesn't read message boards for his info.
  6. Well if you follow the argument made by the comments of those elitists in the Student editorial, UND should just change their name to the Fighting Dakotans. As those who made the argument over there, it doesn't mean Native Americans, the school would then be named after the state. You could still use the Indian-head logo because the state patrol uses it in their logo as well and you could make the argument that the logo is honoring the brave men and women of our state patrol force. It's a stretch, I know, but it's no further of a stretch than the activists use to make some of their arguments.
  7. Even though it didn't really matter in the end last year, one area where I think it could have an impact is the new TUC rule when comparing two teams. Both teams need to have 10 games against TUC teams before that category gets used for that particular comparison. UND was on the verge of losing some comparisons last year because they lost some some of the TUC comparisons against teams who had only played a handful of TUC games and came out with a winning record. Had UND not turned around this TUC comparison against teams at the end of the year by winning their TUC games, UND would have lost a few comparisons because of the old rule. So I think taking this new TUC comparison rule into account will only help teams who play a lot of games against TUC teams versus those teams who play only a few TUC games. I mean it doesn't make any sense that a team like UND should lose a TUC comparison by having a .500 or .600 record on 20-25 games against TUC teams to a team with only three TUC games going 2-1 in those games. It may not affect who wins the overall comparison between the two teams but it seems only logical that if UND wins every other comparison, how can they lose a TUC comparison to an inferior team who only plays three or four TUC games. Sorry for the long-windedness but this new rule appears very logical in the overall scheme of things.
  8. I was displaced by Hurricane Katrina and so was the rest of my family. We still are. I am more offended by the Hurricane logo making fun of my situation as well as countless others. Each time I hear the Miami Hurricane name, I have to be reminded of the devastation caused to me and my family. (P.S. I was never involved in Katrina, but an making an argument many of those who were could make regarding things they find offensive.) If the NCAA wants to crack down on offensive names, they surely need to include this one after what happened in August 2005.
  9. Oh, OK, I thought your post had a comment that stated "According to you the only way the Gophers can play in the Frozen Four is if they play their regionals at home" followed by a icon. I must be seeing things cuz I swore I saw this in your post. And that, my fellow friend, was the comment of yours I was referring to. But if you didn't say that, then I guess I'm guilty of the same thing as you by trying to put words in your mouth.
  10. Where did I say that the only way for the Gophers to go to the Frozen Four was to have a regional at home? I think, and look above and correct me if I'm wrong, but that I was only referring to 2005 and 2006. You are seeming to imply by what you said that I mean any year the Gophers get to the Frozen Four is because of home ice. If you try to paraphrase me, then paraprase me correctly and don't try to infer that I meant more or outside of what I stated. I don't recall mentioning any other years or that the only time the Gophers get to the Frozen Four is because of home ice. Again, if I did, please correct me or otherwise don't put words in my mouth and don't try to repeat what I said and get it wrong.
  11. And if the games were not at Mariucci, the Gophers would not have made it out of that regional. It was more of having home ice and that compensated for their poor play at the Final Five the week before and at the Frozen Four two weeks later. Home ice was just enough to get them over the hump that weekend. It wasn't as much that they dominated play with heart and determination and grit.....again, home ice was probably the biggest factor. Had the Gophers had home ice against Holy Cross, I guarantee they would have won. The Gophers were plagued by the same problems at the end of both years. Their heart and determination were not there. So is this a one-year thing? No, I actually think it's been a problem for two years now at the end of each season. Just that the first year playing at Mariucci kind of hid the more underlying factors affecting the team. So if it's a two-year problem, does that have more to say about the players, the coaches, or a combination of both? Both third place games we were told were meaningless and the team's play the following weeks reflected the attitude of the coach and had it not been for home ice, there would have been two years of losses following a meaningless, unprepared third place game.
  12. Although you make sense in your post, I have to disagree with your point. It wasn't Lucia's coaching that got the Gophers over the hump against Maine and Cornell. Playing in Mariucci got the Gophers over the hump there. Had those games been anywhere but Mariucci, there would have been no Frozen Four that year either. The fact that they played at home one week after tanking in the Final Five is what saved them. Otherwise, they would have had a one and done ala Holy Cross.
  13. Too bad ESPN doesn't have more channels (ala as in Dodgeball). Otherwise the Sioux could be going for "numero ocho" as it's televised live on ESPN "The Ocho". The promos could read "Going for the Ocho on the Ocho".
  14. I wrote Nick Coleman earlier today and he actually replied. But the funny thing of his reply was the hypocrisy in it when compared to what he said in his article today.....the Nazi references and imflammatory accusations leveled against UND and those associated with the pro-name cause. Funny, he did the exact opposite today in his article to what he now said. Here it is for your amusement: Nick Coleman to me More options 12:02 pm (3
  15. I don't like Nick Coleman and there are many reasons I despise him. But one thing I found interesting stood out to me in his article. Did anyone else notice that Nick Coleman had a reference to Brokeback Mountain? I'm wondering the symbolism of that but I think we all know why he invoked the movie into his article.....there must be a particular reason, of all the movies ever made, to throw a reference from that one in it. My wife happened to have on TV the other day and a commercial came on for a movie that I think Nick would have referenced if he had seen the movie..........it was called A Girl Like Me.....a young boy's/man's struggle to live the life of a woman he always wanted. Perhaps that is the type of intervention that Ms. Coleman needs to experience. Sorry but Nick needs to get off his liberal soapbox and realize that UND will never be as liberal (thank god) as the U of M.
  16. Thanks, 8WBGR8, (sorry if I have your name wrong), for giving us worthy information that was proven to be correct. And even though some of us stuck up for you, let me be the first to apologize on behalf of the others on here who doubted you and who flamed you. They won't dare do it on their own. Maybe next time you post information people will not be so quick to jump all over you. Have fun Spirko, we'll miss the undressings of Gopher defensemen. (We should be getting the breaking news from Schlossman any time now.)
  17. Exactly, you can always count on Brad for the story after it has already happened. Brad "always reacting, never breaking" Schlossman.
  18. Because we could do that and then be a lot like Schlossman or many others and react to news after it has happened rather than break a news story before it is announced. How many times do you go to ESPN.com and read an article on there and then the next day Chris Mortenson is breaking the news about that previous article. A lot of time, I expect my reporters or others to break news, not to always react to it. I don't think it's the new people who are tools but the real tools are the ones that blast someone for posting a story. How many of you who have apologized for blasting the person for saying that Stafford was going to sign when five days later he did? I'm sure not many....talk about jacka$$es.
  19. No, not what I said. As a reporter you should know not to take what a person says out of context. Oh wait, sorry, reporters do that a lot. If you would have read what I said, the sentence immediately preceeding the point I made about what our nation is now based on was "Always the easy road....gotta love it. It's what our nation is now based on." So if you would have taken it in the context in which it was written, you would realize that I was referring to people having a tendency to take the easy road. But I do appreciate you so conveniently picking out the sentence before that one and trying to imply that was what my point was referring to. Actually, you did prove my point. You read what you wanted to read and picked out what you wanted to so you could try and make your point.....kind of like taking the easy road instead of thinking about what context in which it was said.
  20. Giving it a rest already would seem to imply that I brought up the topic before which I have not. I've heard others make the comment though in the past so it seems like I'm not the only one who thinks that way. Maybe the new WCHA reporter for USCHO will go out on a limb because Mislewski seemed to do the same thing. Always the easy road....gotta love it. It's what our nation is now based on.
  21. So every weekend series between evenly matched teams is going to be a split? Go out on a limb and add some credibility and pick a sweep once in a while....it does happen. I don't call it picking teams that he thinks or that I want him to think; I call it taking the easy road on his part and being afraid to be wrong because you might get criticized. We are all too fragile and can never be criticized....that's what they teach us in school now-a-days....we are all special and anything contradicting that will just destroy our psyche. It's kind of like that whole believing when a player signs stuff. You wouldn't want to go out on a limb and believe that someone might have info every once in a while; info that you or I might not know. God forbid someone knows more than you or I do. We all have to wait for the almighty "link" to the story. Again, let's not always take the easy road. But I guess they do say denial is always the first stage of acceptance. Maybe that's part of the fellow Sioux fan's grieving process.....deny any first report of a player leaving. Could there be a 10-step program for college hockey fans related to their favorite player's leaving school early? Hmm...interesting.
  22. Dang, this Schlossman guy has all the breaking news. I can't believe he's still with the herald after all the stories he breaks. Thank god all of us have him, otherwise we would never believe when a player has signed. I know I go to bed each night praying and thanking that Schlossman is a reporter covering the Sioux. Without him and his the link to his articles, I'd never know what to believe. Whoever posted the link, thanks, I can rest easier today because I didn't believe this on Friday when it was posted that he was signing. The link is my ultimate savior. Oh wait, scratch that, I'll just rely on some people on this board who know people and who aren't afraid to post their information even if they are new. Thanks anyway, Schlossman and the link poster. Sorry for the confusion. (I'm still waiting for the day that Schlossman decides to pick a sweep some time for two closely matched-up teams when making his picks each week whether it be the home or road team.)
  23. Hey, if they ever have to change the name they should change it to the Fighting Crusaders. Adopt the same color scheme and logo as Holy Cross. A constant reminder for the biggest college hockey upset whenever the Sioux play the Gophers would be priceless.
  24. It's really funny how "clicky" (sp) most of you people are on here. When someone comes on and posts information that is important to the hockey program, they are blasted if that person posting doesn't have like a thousand posts or are part of your inner circle of "hug-buddies". You'll only believe something if it comes from someone you know if it is bad news. If it were good news, you'd be drinking up the news. Take off the green-colored glasses every once in a while.....it helps your own credibility. If I recall correctly, everyone has to register to become a member here. And when that happens, everyone starts off a "newbie" or a "tool" because they haven't posted in the past. But people register to add insight or information in a lot of cases but the majority of you in your little "message board click (sp)" chastise them and deride them for being a tool and unworthy of posting on this board. So think to yourselves, why would anyone who is new want to register to add new information about the program when the majority of you give them crap in return. It's sad really. Some of you need to take a chill-pill and come out of the house every once in a while and open your eyes. Go out, have fun, there's more to life than the Sioux message board or any other message board for that matter. Maybe if we had nothing better to do then we could sit here and post all day to get our number of posts up so we will become "credible" in your eyes. Boy, what a warm fuzzy feeling that would give me.......the others on the message board like me and have accepted me into their clique. There are others in this world who have Sioux hockey sources and know just as much as the regulars on here. They just don't have the need to make themselves feel important and give them an ego boost by posting on here every time they have something to say. Some of you ask for sources but having a higher up source and a source at the paper are two different things. If people name their sources every time like many of you want it to be, then that source may no longer give any information to whoever the person is. Ever thought of that? No, that would require common sense. So maybe, just maybe someone has a source in this world who knows a hell of a lot more than you or me ever will. Think about it, it's possible. Does Wilbur name his source every time? I'm not sure....I don't know who Wilbur is....the only Wilbur I know is from Green Acres. So I'm guessing this isn't the same Wilbur. If it is, let me be the first to congratulate you on moving up in the world from barn-yard pig to someone who is believed by others when you post news because they played hockey with you. I don't skate that well so I guess I'll never have the acclaim or be accepted by the select few on this board. Oh whoa is me......... Sorry for the rant but a lot of you are just ridiculous. Act with some class and show some respect to others. Thanks for going out on a limb here 8WBGR8 and fs1. Not many appreciate the news but it takes a bigger person than the rest to come on here and post bad news when you know you'll be made fun of for posting bad news.
  25. Thanks for all the updates. I appreciate it while stuck at work.
