  1. Football: Klosterman to Schleussner with a buck 40 and change on the clock in the 2001 NC game against Grand Valley. Then Perk wide around left tackle at the 1 yd line to seal the victory. Grand Valley fans in the stands went from sheer joy to utter dismay in less than 2 minutes.

Hockey: UND-BU 1997 NC game, when Matt Henderson intercepted a point-to-point pass by BU's d and skated the length of the ice to bury the puck shorthanded. Runner up: Travis Roche scoring on a slapshot from the left circle with 9 seconds left in the third period of the 2001 Final Five championship game, after the Sioux started the third period down 3 goals. Nothing like being in St. Paul on St. Patty's Day!

Basketball: UND Guard Mary Perrizo drilled the game-winning three pointer against her former team, North Dakota State, as time expired to give UND a 71-68 win (11/22/02). The game was on statewide TV. I can still see Mary getting mobbed by her teammates at the top of the key on the east basket end of Hyslop. Great times. Great memories. Couldn't have happened to better opponent.

Volleyball: UND wins 3-1 against NDSU before 2,400 raucus fans at the Betty, ending a 0-forever winless drought against the dreaded herd.

  2. Can someone tell me the last time a media personality in GF (Sweeney, Nelson, Miller, Schlossman, et al) have said a bad word or questioned anything a UND team or caoch has done? Your hockey coach won't do an interview after a loss and nobody says a thing about it. I can guarantee you Bohl or Phillips would be taken to the woodshed if they did that.

Tom Miller regularly writes personal columns that are heavily critical of UND, UND fans, UND's AD, UND's admin., UND coaches, UND scheduling, etc. I could give you dates but I can't give you links because you'd have to scrape together $3 a pop to get behind the archive pay wall to read them. Nelson, Sweeney = almost never critical. Schloss is a mixed bag.

So, alas, both town's have their share of homer reporters. Who woulda thunk it? Not necessarily earth shattering breaking news is it?

  3. So Georgetown University as a whole should be labeled DI-AA, including there BB program because they play DI FCS football? Western Michigan University as a whole should be labeled as DI-A because they play DI FBS football? What should Witchita State (withou football) be labeled?

You are clearly so jaded with your head up you butt that it defies any human logic. How can one possibly stand behind such illogical arguements with a straight face. You are simply jaded beyond belief.

Who the hell are you talking to? Your post followed a fellow Bison troller's. Were you replying to him/her?

  4. Simply changing the name from IAA to FCS hasn't changed the product one iota. There are currently many respected commentators that refer to FCS as IAA. Big deal. Referring to it as such for them is a creature of habit. Doesn't prove a level of intelligence or education whatsoever.

And as for Jack Michaels, no one has ever disputed the quality of the product that he delivers. Its the pandering he has to do in his full-time gig that is at issue.

Now to get back on topic of the thread title, NDSU will face more competition this week and next in PRACTICE than they will in the game. Practice. Not the game. Practice.

    Couldn't resist. :)

  5. We can do this all day. I didn't ask him to defend the hyperbolic scenarios and switch the argument over to that which would have made it a strawman. If I would have made the argument about those hyperbolic statements it would have at that point become a strawman.

    Agree to disagree then.

  6. Again I come back to: Who is claiming that if NDSU wins on January 7th that they will be the best college football team in the country?

I think the problem is that you are arguing with multiple people about different things. You may have never said it, but it has been alluded to that if NDSU winning a FCS national championship is not legit than UND's hockey national championships are not legit because of all the predominately D II and D III schools that compete in hockey at the "highest level." I say both arguments are hog wash. They are both impressive and legit championships. But only one can say they are better than all others in all of college. Just a fact. No dig on anyone.

  7. A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position, twisting his words or by means of [false] assumptions.

I didn't misrepresent his position or twist his words to mean something other than they were. I simply pointed out that his argument was "like" saying all of those other things.

I know what a strawman is, and you totally misrepresented the arguers position with your hyperbolic scenarios. You know it. I know it. He/she knows it.

  8. Do you have a problem with Dickinson Trinity or Kindred or Lisbon claiming a state football championship?

No, but it would be problematic to say my beloved Titans play in the top tier of all NDHSAA football. That's all. Facts is facts. Sioux play D1 hockey at the very top of collegiate hockey. UND and NDSU do not in football. Nothing wrong with it. Just the way it is. Like it or lump it.

  9. Just because you keep saying that doesn't make it true. You can say it isn't the highest level of competition, but you can't say it isn't a true D-I championship.

That's like saying your Division I hockey championships count for nothing because there is still the NHL that is a higher level.

And wait the NBA championship is meaningless due to it not involving teams from all over the world. Olympics are meaningless because they only involve our planet, there has to better basketball teams in another solar sytem somewhere in the universe. :)

We could do this all day. I haven't heard any NDSU fan claim that if we are fortunate enough to win the game on Jan. 7th that we will be the best college football team in the country.

I don't disagree with your base premise, but, seriously, strawman much?

  10. I can't help but laugh at this comment, it is just so predictable that some UND fans would respond this way. If UND were in the championship you would not come on this forum and say it isn't a true D-I championship.

Not taking anything away from what NDSU may be about to do, BUT, when UND gets in that position, and God willing, wins it, I will certainly not have any illusions that UND is the best Division I football program in the country (That, I am afraid, must be reserved for the FBS national champion, BCS poll arguments aside.) Now, I will indulge all the NDSU trollers and fall into the "Buthockey trap," if UND wins another NC in mens or womens hockey, there will be no doubt that we are the best college hockey program in the country. Same goes for track and field, cross country, golf, softball, swimming, soccer, volleyball, baseball, and a Cinderella miracle run by our bb teams in the dance.

That is all anyone is trying to say; please don't mangle their words with revisionist propaganda.

  11. So happy to see this is TIME magazine. Never in 100 years could I see our local newspaper publishing something like this! hahahahaaha, that is why I cancelled my subscription to the GF Herald.

How about 101 years. It's in the Herald and was in there yesterday, too. But if you canceled your subscription, how would you know, right? :)

I applaud the article as it gets the message to a national stage, but frankly, I didn't read anything in it that hasn't already been printed in the Herald. It's, like I said, same stuff we already knew, but presented on a platter for a national audience (which I think is super cool.)

  12. It seems like we are able to sneak up on teams on our first meetings with them, especially, in the familiar confines of home. I think the games we've won this year against "good" quality teams were situations in which the Sioux were initially overlooked by the opponent. Those teams came ready on the backend of those season series. Case in point, we schooled Idaho st. handily at the Betty; then they beat us on their home court. We lose huge at SDSU and show them nothing.... fast-forward one week, and they come to Grand Forks and we show them what we CAN do, totally shocking the crap out of them. Sioux walk into Sac St. yesterday and do very little wrong in the first half ( I assume Sac St. didn't know what to expect and probably weren't expecting much), then Sac St. wipes the cold water off their faces in the second half, buckles down and puts the screws to the Sioux.

  13. Don't ask me why some kid says what he says.. Coaches don't tend to tell kids they will match any offer from another school. They tend to decide what their needs are then they have kids on a list rated top to bottom and they make an offer based on the team needs and their resources available. You might be surprised who talked to me,and no coahces don't tell me everything about their recruits, but I believe it is accurate to say UND was interested in the kid and were not planning on offering him a full ride so I don't believe they would tell him they would "match any offer". I didn't ask that particular question though. I do believe they would have offered him a partial. Schools also don't tend to make offers before they meet with the kid and or their family. They got the kid at receiver they had rated ahead of Woods and they have a number of receivers on the team they already like. I would also recommend you don't believe everything you read in the paper. Well meaning reporters don't often get the story quite right Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the AC got him for a partial rather than a full ride. So there you go.... the paper reports it one way and quotes a kid, then you find on a UND blog someone was told otherwise and you feel like someone pissed on your cornflakes. Go figure. Better yet go ring the bell for the Salvation Army for an hour and quit wasting time worrying about what goes on at a UND website!

    Advantage Ira.

  14. For a little perspective on UND's win over SDSU at Grand Forks...to show your fans UND beat a good team:

With about 7:00 to go in the half, SDSU 39, U of Washington 18.

The Huskies aren't quite sure what to make of the Jackrabbits. Of course, lots of game left and the Huskies are a very good team and are favored to pull this one out. They haven't lost a home, non-conference game in 32 games.

I really admire the Jacks and that Wolters kid is unconscious without even trying. I hope the SDSU-UND game served as a wake-up call for the Jacks so they could walk into this game with the Huskies with a bit of a chip on their shoulders. Go Jacks! Fight on Sioux!

  15. anyone know how tix sales are going for the ndsu game? still kind of wish it was in the betty with maybe higher bleachers in the endzones for more seating...but if they get less than ten grand in the ralph it will be a waste...better not be A MELTDOWN AT THE RALPH PART TWO

That was my thought too, about the Betty. It would seem that the Ralph would be more of a neutral site for both teams compared to the cozy familiar confines of the Betty that our players are used to. You'd also think that the crowd would favor UND, but who knows, AC fans travel well, especially for big rivalry games only 70 miles away. It might be half and half the way our casual fans have been showing up for BB games.

  16. I'm so bummed I wasn't able to go. I even had free tickets offered.

    How was the crowd?

Official box score says attendance was 1,495. Capacity is between 2,400-2,500, I think. SDSU had more than 4,000 in Brookings last week.
