  1. Next week, UND can finish what has been a challenging and frustrating transition period with a win over longtime rival South Dakota and clinch a share of the last Great West Conference title in the process. This is probably the most significant game at the Alerus Center since October 29th, 2005 when Nebraska-Omaha ruined what was shaping up to be a national championship season with a 20-19 comeback win after being down 19-0 late in the third quarter. In my opinion, the program was never quite the same after that. But next Saturday afternoon, we can start a new winning tradition, this time at the Division I FCS level.

This is the time to fill the Alerus Center up again, like we did from 2001-2005. This is the time to bring back the noise, the excitement, the energy, the passion. Do your hunting some other weekend. Take a nap some other Saturday. This Saturday, get your rear ends to the Alerus Center and show this team that you support them and that you are fired up for the Big Sky Conference in 2012!!! Go Sioux!!!

And while were at it, bus the students there and then ankle chain them to their seats so they can't leave at halftime for whatever more-important gad they've got going on at 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. :glare:

  2. Was at the game, too. The assessments posted so far are spot on. Sioux women are closing the gap, though. Last year, they lost to this same team by 40. Tonight they cut it by more than half. They are young... good recruits coming in next year. Life goes on.

  3. Lammy twins had a solid day in the 4-Nations tourney today in Sweden, beating the hometeam 8 to zilch. MLK had 2 G and a helper and JoLam had 1 G and 2 assists ( I believe, something like that). Canada took care of Finland 5-0 in the first game.

  4. !@$!. Time to get Blair Townsend more involved. On the upside he has a lot of potential.

What is R.J. Magill's status for this weekend? We've been playing without him; if he's back.... maybe it might all be a wash, if he is healthy enough to compete.

  5. Sorry for caps and large font, but this deserves it:

SOMEONE IN THE "KNOW" AT UND, PLEASE FIND OUT IF THE NCAA WILL BE OKAY WITH THIS AMENDED BILL BEFORE IT IS VOTED ON AND PASSES!

    THANK YOU,

EXHAUSTED, FED-UP, ANGRY FIGHTING SIOUX FANS EVERYWHERE

I'm being told (by one person in the know, not a comphrehensive survey, by any means) that Dahl's amendment, at least initially, is being viewed as "acceptable" by UND -- kind of a compromise to appease the hardliners in the Legislature. The administration appears to be more thrilled that the bill came out of committees with a unanimous recommendation to repeal.

  6. I think your all just minion's

Did you believe this too http://plainsdaily.c...ed-on-new-info/

I take everything that rag prints with a huge chunk of salt. Kate B. is definitely dogged and does some very comprehensive reporting, with some slanting here and there to make her editors, Rob and Scotty, happy, but anything that is associated with Rob Port isn't exactly a bastion of objective journalism. He's got a bit of an ax to grind. Then again, in today's world, what medium is truly objective? Pick your side and drink the Kool-aid, I guess.

What I don't get is the counterintuitiveness of this whole cost issue. The logic just doesn't compute. If UND admin is so hell bent on getting rid of the nickname just because they despise it, as many claim, wouldn't they lowball these cost figures as much as possible to make it more palatable to those who don't have any other kind of dog in the fight. Enlighten me, please!

  7. There is no doubt replacing Smed & Trefz, Bohannen, and Russel will be difficult. They have all been tremendous in different areas. But from what I've seen, the cupboard isn't going to be bare. I like Robinson, she already hits as hard as Smed or Trefz, plus like Smed she'll start in back to dig out a serve or attack. Ulrich has good upside as an outside hitter. Munkeby will have another year under her belt. There are pieces that I'm very encouraged about that we wouldn't see too much of a drop off. But yes, it will be tough to see those seniors move on, because they've really been a part of something special.

Trefz and Smed will be difficult to replace next year.

That said, if UND was in the Big Sky, we'd likely be running away with the conference this year. Utah Valley and Houston Baptist are now both more highly rated than any Big Sky team. Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado have both dropped about 75 spots in the ratings.

UNI is currently the #5 team in the country (with Nebraska #2, Iowa State #3, and Minnesota #6), so there's a lot of DI talent in the area (tall Scandinavian girls ;) )

After perusing the link, I noticed that AC is rated 46 and UND is 65.... this after UND beat them head to head pretty convincinlgy this year. I think there might have been some confusion with the numbers and the schools most likely were mixed up. Someone alert Kolpack.

  8. "classless programs like NDSU"......really?

I don't come over here too much cus UND/NDSU references become a "pissing" match. But this statement is total bunk....period!

Oh poor, baby. Grow some skin and consider the source! Thanks for your interest, though.

  9. What we need is wins over UCD and USD, then all the concern over not beating SF by enough points goes away. Then we can say with regard to yesterday's game that a win is a win. Well, at least I'd say that...unlike most of you I feel that way already, but I tend to take games one at a time for the fun of it rather than over-thinking about the long term strategic significance of point differentials.

Then what good would message boards be? ;)

  10. It's being spun as losing to Morehead St (Ky), who was in the NCAA tournament last year. ;)

"Moorhead" St was missing its best player, too.

We've been told for years that a certain team in the FM area is stockpiling talent. Now we know which one.

    Double ouch!

  11. If that's your attitude, then I don't even want you cheering for the Sioux. You may as well sink into the woodwork now and stay there for however long the name remains in place. If and when it is retired you are then welcome to start rooting for UND's athletic teams. :glare:

Who died and made you resident bonehead? :glare:

  12. I think it is refreshing to hear us go back and forth about reasons why we didn't win by more than 20 instead of debating and lamenting why we lost to teams like this, as we did in past seasons.

  13. & PS .............good luck getting folks to convert to what ever you come up with - You should have a few hundred Alumni at the games in your new Garb :D

I had a hunch you despised UND and only loved the name; now it's confirmed.

  14. Haga needs to stop stirring the pot with pieces like this. It gives the nickname armageddon crowd a rallying point.

I am a fan of UND, not just UND athletics. I don't want to blow up the whole university to keep a nickname.

Never thought I'd see the day that Fetch and the like would be using Chuck Haga and the Herald as an example for keeping the name.

  15. Coach Mussman was informed by Mollberg tonight that he will not be attending Iowa and will be attending UND. Looks like early commitments are starting to come in. Other DL kid offered is Labatt. He is 6' 3", 210 lbs. Has played QB (when Mollberg was hurt), slotback, tight end, safety, DE and LB. Has 53 carries for 448 yds and 1 TD, 17 receptions for 378 yds and 6 TD's, and 1 int returned for a TD. 4.0 student. ACT around 30. Reported to be leaning to UND. Would be great to get another early commitment.

This is great news! Sounds like a solid recruit on the field and in the classroom. An awesome get for UND academically and athletically. Thanks for the updates on Mollberg and the other NW Minn. recruits.

  16. The people and media in Bismarck and Minot will be turned off by the Sioux Falls crap.

The prism that UND needs to be concerned about is Bismarck, Minot, Williston, and Dickinson as well as Billings, not Sioux Falls.

Billings - the media capital of Montana - is what matters, not Sioux Falls.

The Billings media is pumped that UND is in the Big Sky.

It's difficult to imagine the latest projects out of western ND:

1.2 million barrels / day (triple durrent rate, which has already tripled in two years)

A Williston with 50,000 to 75,000 people in 15 years.

Dickinson almost as big as Williston.

    Minot almost doubling.

    Bismarck growing 50%.

50,000 transplants from Montana in North Dakota.

    25,000 transplants from Idaho

A huge number of native ND's returning to ND

A ND economy more than double what it is now, and actually dominated by the West.

A western part of the state that would be energized by the Big Sky and geography..

Billings' growth will be taking off - as well as the smaller Eastern Montana towns.

Let NDSU have the Summit, Sioux Falls, and SD to itself.

Let Terry Vandrovec think he knows something and wax his poetical bull, when he doesn't know squat about economics or TV media or anything UND.

Totally agree with this. J. Kolpack, Terry V. and the Fargo-Sioux Falls media corridor have gotten so much wrong about UND it's disgraceful; especially the Douple/Kelley pseudo drama.

  17. In the Herald live chat today, Wayne Nelson stated that he expects Gentry will play as a true freshman, along with Antwi. If so, competition just got that much tougher for playing time on the perimeter.

All I can say to that is:  Wow!
