On the other hand, maybe the Bruins learned their lesson on not selecting Zach Parise when they had a chance and took Mark Stuart. Who would have thought that Blake Wheeler would go #5 in the draft? Probably not likely, but it only takes one team to see something in a player that others don't. There are always surprises of people with questionable work ethics that slip down the draft board, and that leaves room for people with great work ethics like Grimaldi to move up.

Don't want to address the "facts" part of your post, but I think what he is saying is that your remark about the train going is exactly what Kelley wanted, to get people so worried that they would not follow through on the extra time to make one final effort with the nickname. I have been a believer that it was basically gone when they gave up the lawsuit, so I am not naive to what is going to be reality, but one does have to wonder a bit about who is telling the truth -- because flat out, someone is lying-- and we know that is a fact.

I don't know, I think Genoway, Frattin, Malone, etc. handled the loss to Michigan fairly well. Don't group all people together, otherwise all Americans get lumped into the arrogant category. As in college hockey, every fanbase has their idiots, the same can be said of Canada.

The best part for me as a Bruin fan is that the Bruins won without Kessel and Wheeler. Gotta admit it was hard for me to be overly excited about the prospect of them winning the Cup with them, moreso Kessel.

So if Toews would have only stayed a year, would you consider that a fail? Just having that name tied to the University of North Dakota is a help for future recruiting. The more 1st round picks that can develop and go on to the next level, only helps getting guys in the future. Sure, you have to supplement those players with guys who are going to stick around, but I'm sure the coaches are well aware of that and take that into consideration. Remember, Brad Malone was rumored to be considering leaving after one year here, as well as Drew Stafford, but they stuck around. Brad Malone is now a walking advertisement for the University of North Dakota. I am confident that the coaches and just the atmosphere surrounding this program can grow on players, so no matter what is being said now, doesn't mean that is going to be the way it turns out. Miller might not turn out to be a true part of the Fighting Sioux family, then again he might. I like the way he plays, and to be frank, the Sioux need all the talent they can this year to offset all the losses.

Basically, that is the same as any other player. Every player would reevaluate, especially if they had a great year. Jonathan Toews evaluated after his first year, would you not want him to have come here?

Don't know why this all of a sudden came up, when the law was passed a while ago. Makes me wonder if Douple was telling the truth that Kelley instigated the nickname fiasco with the Summit and maybe he chose to do the same with the Big Sky! However this came to being, I think the hay is in the barn now.
-
He doesn't! Just like half the people on this board speculating about who is leaving for the Sioux. Nobody thought Hextall would leave. Everybody speculates left and right, but as I said before, statistically speaking first round draft picks don't hang around as long as those taken in later rounds. Wasn't Finley one of very few that stayed all four years being a first round draft pick? Of course there are examples to the contrary, but the odds are more likely that they don't stick around as long, and I like anything that improves those odds. Of course I would like anything that would improve our odds of winning a National Championship, and if Miller and Grimaldi can find a way to help us get over the hump in that regard, I won't mind them leaving early if they have added to the Fighting Sioux legacy.
-
You might be wishing they had players in the top ten and we didn't, because statistically speaking 1st round draft picks don't stick around as long as those taken in subsequent rounds.

Their dad used to play for Denver, so they have ties there as well.

The problem is that the NCAA is basically becoming a monopoly because there are no viable options. They have shown that where big bucks are found, they aren't about to rock the boat with ethical concerns. The fact that the NCAA let 5 of Ohio State football players play in their Bowl game last year testifies to that. If the Bowl sponsor wouldn't have had a problem suspending the players, they would have been suspended. But since they raised a stink the NCAA put ethics to the side.

If this truly is a sport on the grow, it would be better to get in on the ground floor and establish a reputation like we have in hockey, rather than being a laggard and catch up, especially if bigtime schools become interested in adding it. If we have to wait for a game to finish before we watch an NCAA hockey game, we might as well get familiar with the sport.
-
Shouldn't that mean that nobody within the NCAA should ever go to the Mayo Clinic? That's right, they just want to tell other people what's offensive.

I was surprised to hear the other day that the NHL owns the rights to the name Jets or something like that and the franchise would be called the Manitoba Moose. I find it hard to believe though that they wouldn't allow them to be the Winnipeg Jets again, simply for name recognition. Anyone else hear this?

Yeah, then we could have the "3D" line. If they look like they are right in your face, it's because they are.

Since they approved, can Florida State fans do anything they want and have no fear of reprisal? Tomahawk chop- O.K., War paint - O,K. Flaming spears -O.K. Mock scalping -? Get real NCAA!

If he stays and is as consistent as he was this year, he has Hobey potential, and he won't have a past to work against him like Frattin did.

I guess my question is when is the sunset on the Alerus Center sales tax? Wasn't that a 20-year deal? With the excess sales tax collected in many years, they should have been able to pay that off early, unless they are using those funds for some other reason that the voters didn't have a chance to approve. Nevertheless, why can't the City practice the same budgeting that it's citizens do, and wait until they pay off one thing before they take out a loan on another, especially when nothing is going to fall apart in the meantime. If you keep increasing the sales tax before any sunset happens, you run the risk of losing some business from outlying areas.

I am with you. The people that put percentages on how likely a person is to sign without knowing that person is just guessing, so why put percentages on it? I tend to get a bit skeptical of people who are so sure of a certain outcome -- much like those that were so brash in the media and fanbase that thought there was a zero percent chance the Sioux would lose to Michigan. Do you hear that Austin Schauer (sp.) ? The funny thing is that people don't learn from previous experiences.

Everybody else is wrong and I'm the only one that is right. Hmmm, sounds to me like somebody needs counseling. Might want to be a bit introspective and ask youself the question, "Is it everybody else, or is it me?"

There is an article in today's Grand Forks Herald about Thompson and Gage Ausmus accepting invitations to the NTDP. Hopefully they can continue to develop and become Fighting Sioux ... or whatever the nickname is at that point.

I think Michigan's success against our powerplay and our lack of success against their penalty kill gave Michigan the confidence that they would at least be in the game. Everybody knows how you win postseason games, goaltending and special teams. It may just be the players gripping their sticks a little tighter, or Michigan might have game-planned our powerplay very well. The disappointing thing for me is that the Sioux had two players with outrageous point streaks and not to score one goal really makes it more difficult to take because of that alone.
-
Yes, pretty good indeed, for a one-line team!
-
The thing about goaltending is that you can be on the best roll ever, and stumble for one game, and it is literally game over. The Sioux can attest to that over the past several years just about as well as anybody.
