  1. Exactly, it would have looked terrible. That's what people are saying about a large Fighting Hawk logo.
  2. Personally, if we can just get beyond the stupid booing every time they say "Fighting Hawks at full strength", I will consider that progress.
  3. But the point is, if you'll pardon the pun, is that everyone seems to think that it is one size fits all, and it shouldn't have to be. Never has been in the past, and to all of a sudden decree that every program has to use the new logo as prominently would be hypocritical, and not help in the transition. It's like jamming cauliflower down someone's throat and demanding they like it.
  4. So where was everybody saying that the football team wasn't supporting the old logo? The fact that the football program never had the old logo on their helmet but jumped at this one could just as well look like a slight at the old logo. Many people are saying that this new logo doesn't look good when it is large, but may look better small. That wasn't the case with the old logo. I am not a huge fan of the new logo, but it does look fine on certain things. I just don't think if a team chooses not to use a logo prominently it says that they aren't loyal to the University.
  5. Don't remember the Fighting Sioux logo being a prominent part on the football field and helmets.
  6. That's very true, but perhaps we all were too optimistic that Santiago could run behind any offensive line. Knowing that football is all about the struggle in the trenches, we all could be in for a rude awakening if they don't gel. Having said that, even the O-line group from last year struggled a bit finding space for Santiago against tough defenses early last year, then started giving him the little creases he needed to explode.
  7. Actually this team needs to attract the bandwagon fans like the Bison did when they started to put together their string of championships. The way you do that is by winning these games and keeping the buzz alive. And once you get those bandwagon fans, they are hooked and hopefully the atmosphere at the games that was created compels them to stay on even through a rough year or two. Let's start the process of getting some of those bandwagon fans against Bowling Green.
  8. In my eyes, the hurt of tonight isn't so much about people jumping off the ship, it's about people not jumping on the ship. They needed to create that excitement in the rest of the community to get them to start attending games. They have actually had some buzz around town, but this doesn't help keep that going. If people on this site have already lost some of that excitement, you can bet the casual fan has too.
  9. Did you not see my point, "starting out"? I was one of the many people that caught part of the women's game before the men's game, and at times it wasn't pretty. I was also one of the ones who did a complete 180 and enjoyed watching the women more. The point was that it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't given a chance to evolve.
  10. I can actually foresee that somewhere down the line, when there isn't such a discrepancy in talent in the lower ranks of hockey. I think the concern is that those that aren't that strong on their skates at the lower levels would be set up for going into the boards wrong and risk permanent injury. But we have seen many women participating fully in non traditional women's sports, so one day, just like women's basketball it may evolve more like the men's game. I am just curious why lower teams without as deep of pockets like St. Cloud, Bemidji, and Mankato State haven't cut women's hockey. Maybe they are waiting to see how the women's sport evolves.
  11. That is what Brad Schlossman was trying to tell everyone, that it makes no sense to have that kind of committee.
  12. So then women's basketball would have been cut years ago when they were first starting out. The only way they got people to go was that they got people to watch part of the second half because they arrived early for the men's game.
  13. Neil was the goaltender for Central in the epic 7 overtime tie with Red River in 1977.
  14. Do you attend games? I ask, because I always see Fasion at games. There are times he is not there because he is attending games on the road. Let's not demonize him with a broad brush just because he has made some decisions we don't agree with.

    2016 Season

So a 4-2 record against the Big Sky. Their record against the rest of the MVFC is 36-4 over a similar period. That is my point.

    2016 Season

Which is funny because the only teams that seem to be able to beat the Bison are from the Big Sky.
  17. I agree totally. On South Washington and 32nd avenue south the speed limit is 40, yet I find both lanes are blocked by people going 30. You seldom see people actually going the speed limit. I remember Tim Hennessy interviewing some women's softball players from Oregon, and they said they can't believe how slow people drive here. I have heard the same from other new people that come to town. Also, it takes 10 minutes to get anywhere in town, so can we please just put down the phones and wait to text until we get to our destination.
  18. They have had a couple down years for them, but no matter what you think of the Big Ten, they did win that conference. I don't think you will see them down for that long, in fact playing them this year in Minneapolis isn't a sure sweep. I wouldn't be surprised to see a split, because we are the Defending National Champs who are still their biggest rival. They will be ready to play, and it will be early in the season where we will still be adjusting to not having many key cogs from our team last year.
  19. Then the reasoning for leaving the WCHA was a farce. UND said they were worried that the voting block in the old WCHA was such that many of the smaller schools wouldn't be all in and would always be on the lookout to cut costs, reduce scholarships, etc. If you are adding those same teams back in, you defeated the purpose for bolting in the first place.
  20. I know you are kidding, but the guy who blamed UND and the NCHC for a lot of the upheaval. Wonder if he would be as ruthless on Mankato as he was on UND for choosing to bolt. Even if they don't get in, I would expect a commentary on what a classless move this is by Mankato. It's not like they would have let the WCHA know all this but for the Open Records request by Schlossman. Waiting for the article ...
  21. http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/letters/4032678-letter-grand-forks-breaks-promise-alerus-center-bonds These are some of my recollections as well.
  22. ... and there was supposed to be a sunset clause on the hike for the Alerus and with the higher collection than expected for years it should already be done. I am assuming that somewhere along the line they quietly appropriated that money elsewhere and there will be no sunset as they promised. When you give them an inch, they will always take a mile. And they wonder why citizens don't want to go down that road.
  23. So just think of how much money Lucia's hatred of UND has cost Minnesota by not playing us every year up until now.
  24. If we wanted to take the provincialism to an extreme we could say we always seem to have more players from the city of our University than Minnesota does. Bottom line is any coach will go find players anywhere that allows him to put the best product on the ice, and that goes for every sport. As long as you're not cheating, I don't know what the problem is with that.
  25. Oh, I'm with you. It was obnoxious listening to them spout that mantra every year I watched games at the old Williams Arena. The funny thing is they weren't provincial in other sports, so it was so hypocritical.
