  1. Kelly was trying to influence nearly everyone duing the nickname debacle, including legislators and the sioux booster clubs. He was consistenly working behind the scenes to allow UND to drop the nickname. That is not speculation, but clear fact that was spouted over and over again on this board, many of who were very upset with Kelly over those efforts. What's to say he wasn't working the Summit invitiation (which everyone knew was coming by the way) behind the scenes so he could rid the university of the nickname problem?

In the end, the B1F invitation came before the Summit inviation, so he accepted that and moved on. After being jilted by UND on a Summit invitation, Douple then decided to expose what Kelly was doing beind the scenes. . . . that scenario is not any more difficult to believe than the scenario that Kelly had zero involvement in trying to influence the Summit.

What other favors is Douple doing for non-members? Perhaps if he paid more attention to the teams currently in his conference there wouldn't be a team leaving every year.

  2. I would take the Summit's word over the UND administration. Never a good idea for a president or administration to admit that they didn't want the nickname in Grand Forks.

But its a better idea for a conference commissioner to bend over for a school who is not even a member?

  3. I really think the B1G schools are going to have to improve their own teams if they want a spot at the CFP. The OOC schedule is only a small part of the SOS. Look at the SEC, their teams are so much better then the B1G that they can schedule all OOC cupcakes and still have a higher SOS.

Eliminating FCS games is not going magically make their teams better. In fact they may very well be worse off because of it!

Doubtful. Ohio St may have very well been in the Nat'l Championship game this year if they were elgible. Its going to cost them more money. I think its just another stepping stone towards the seperation of the big 4 conferences.

  4. Where would we be if UND was given the same deal as USD (MVFC, SL)? Would the SL be more sturdy or would us UND fans be brainstorming on where we could go next.

UND is even further outside any conference footprint than FU and geography is what will hold them back from getting into a new conference. I'm not saying UND couldn't help stabalize the Summit and some former NCC schools could make it a decent conference, but the other schools need to prove they don't already have a foot out the door before we entertain the thougt to join.

  5. The B1G needs every conference to follow their lead or they just drove up the asking price from the MAC, MWC and Conference USA. Those teams now know they can name a price cause B1G teams have publically stated they have no other options.

  6. I think Golloday has potential but needs to show me something this season before I say he is getting drafted.

Brandon Kaufman of Eastern Washington was proven at this level an signed as a free agent with the Bills.

  7. Can't or intentionally left unanswered?

If they at least had a formula in mind I'd go with can't but since I haven't heard that I and others I know think its intentionally left unanswered.

  8. As a Fargo resident all I want to see is the funding formula. Basically, by supporting the diversion I am opening currently opening my wallet and allowing them to take out an undetermined amount. At least give me a ballpark figure for what it is going to cost me where I live. That question can't be answered by anyone on the flood commission and they should have that figured out already.

  9. If this is over (which as I mentioned above I don't believe it is), after all the backfilling takes place and the trickle down is done, would hate to be in a conference with 6 members. For example, lets say the Horizon backfills with Oakland and Robert Morris and the MVC possibly adds Denver or UNO, there won't be much shuffle left for the remaining Summit to get into or schools to choose from.

  10. Future members being Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse plus Notre Dame partially. FargoBison is right, this should end realignment at least in the upper part of D1. ESPN

The Big East, Catholic league and SEC schools are still free to move. Also, the MWC has a couple schools that could receive an invite some time down the road. I wouldn't say its over.

  11. Every member of the ACC signed a Grant of Rights today. Realignment just came to a screeching halt at the upper level of DI....

    http://www.theacc.co.../042213aaa.html

    Doubt it........From the article:

"The ACC has long been a leader in intercollegiate athletics, both academically and athletically," said the collective ACC Council of Presidents. "Collectively, we all agree the grant of rights further positions the ACC and its current and future member schools as one of the nation's premier conferences."

  12. I can't stand the ag school of the south as much as the next UND fan, but I don't understand how you can downplay and poke fun at the idea of staying and working with your teammates during the summer. Whatever program the ag school runs, it works with back-to-back national championships as proof. If UND wants to compete for national titles, they should have the majority of their team working out together during the summer months also. Having the whole team disperse and "have fun" during the summer months will only lead to the mediocrity we've seen from UND football teams the last few seasons.

It was a joke. As someone mentioned earlier, UND generally has a large percentage (majority) of players stick around for the summer.

  13. Hmmm....I wonder why they have so much success? Bohl does such a remarkable job of having such a united team. A former student of mine plays for him and just beams about him. They truly all play for the one greater cause than themselves.

I'd like to see that become a policy for the UND football team as well. Part of you being on the football team is staying around with the group in the summer time to get better together.

Thier summer participation is due more to Coach Kramer than Bohl. From my understanding since after 2009 they get about 90% summer participation from returning players after mid-June. We generally have a lot of guys stick around but need it to be everyone.

  14. Are scholarship players required to stay in GF or is it a choice?

It can't be required by NCAA rules, they are voluntary workouts.......however, a lot of programs make it "strongly encouraged."

  15. Defense looked pretty good today. Seems like the scheme was more simple but guys were just playing. They were hitting and getting after the O.

Someone mentioned it earlier but I thought Butler played well at safety today. He is athletic enough to provide coverage but is physical and seems to enjoy filling the running lanes. Hopefully he keeps progressing and stays elgible.

WR's looked real, real good today. Everyone contributed.

QBs appeared to be as good as advertised. Another week of spring ball, this summer passing game and next fall and I'm confident with either Bartels or Molberg. I just hope the coaches don't have a quick hook with whomever starts cause they will make mistakes as a freshmen.

I agree, Shaugby was our best running back today. Still think the O-line needs to have a big summer, need to get more physical.

Overall- fun day today. I'm glad I made the drive from Fargo to check it out.

This entire team needs to stick around this summer. We need to get stronger and continue to develop as a team. This has to be the message from teh coaches starting the day spring ball is over.

  16. Bartles can flat out play. And competition is a good thing.

This, he looked good today and has looked good all spring. He throws a great ball.

Bot QBs bring something different to the table.

  17. 1960 is the year NDAC became NDSU.

NDSU vs. UND in other sports is the reason Gene won't schedule? Really? Those sports allow for a lot more scheduling flexibility...and NDSU has absolutely crushed UND in basketball in 2 of the past 3 years. Volleyball? Sucks to lose to UND, but at the end of the day, its volleyball. Baseball? They split a series this year I think?

Seems to me you are assume that things will go back to being the 1990's. Times are different. You think Chris Mussman is the answer to catching up to NDSU in football? I think everyone is aware that the playoffs will force a matchup at some point. Almost a guarantee when that happens it is in Fargo, in probably the most hostile venue in the FCS, with very few tickets available for UND fans.

While I don't disagree the first match up will happen in the playoffs, its not an absolute given it happens in Fargo. FU will probably be a top seed this year with all the experience coming back but that will not be a given every year after.

  18. Didn't he simply point out that UND had a losing season and that can hardly be considered a success?

I'm not saying our season was fantastic. We let some games slip. Yet there was an entire thread on your own forum about how different your team was with your best player (Braun) out for some time. Most fans were defending the poor play of your team during that time due to one player being injured. Conveniently though, when you and other FU fans judge UND's team they leave out the fact that we played a majority of our non conference season without a mid-major All-American and our best interior player. Its a pretty convenient arguement to make on your end I suppose.
