  1. Offense:

Dustin Adams- (OL needs to be better this year)

AJ Stockwell- (Coaches have him as a TE right now for a reason and position is wide open)

    Defense:

Taj Rich/Dayo Idowu- (our OLBs really underperformed last season. They didn't look athletic enough to play at this level. I think both these guys have the chance to get some reps this year)

Rumeal Harris- (Kid has the size we need at CB and it is a position that is wide open for reps)

Javen Butler- (hoping the ability he has when we signed him shows up on the field this year, we need improved play there this year)

    Special Teams:

Casey Young- (taking over long snapping duties)

  2. Not sure if anyone saw but Danny Freund is coaching at the Manning Passing Academy right now. Congrats Danny on the great experience.

Our young coaching staff has had some great experiences in the past couple year. Freund with this opportunity, Kotelnicki participated in the NCAA-NFL Coaching Academy in February and Benny Boyd working with the Pittsburgh Steelers a couple years ago with the Bill Walsh NFL Coaching Program. I am always impressed with the opportunities these young coaches get.

  3. Is there a bad one to pick from. No D2's on there so what is there to complain about.

Its tough to choose between SDSU, UM, MSU or EW they all present a unique challenge. Also, Valpo will be our first look at the team and our freshmen QB's so I am excited about that. Its a great home schedule.

  4. Apparently you didn't read the article and only looked at the GF herald editors head line. The downtown civic has out lived its usefullness and there is a need for a smaller venue than the FargoDome. With the Alerus running in the red every year I'd keep your jealousy in check.

Dan you spend more time trying to run down UND sports than you do posting about FU sports.

  5. Same as any other position, next man up. WR is the one spot on the team where depth is more than adequate, there will be some real good playres fighting for playing time.

This, injuries happen. Any team would be affected with an injury to their best player.

  6. So you're sure he deleted them? They (presidents) know that the email system is backed up so what would be the point?

Dan, you need to explain to your president that if you intend to save an e-mail you don't put it in the trash folder. Maybe the IT at FU can come up with some big pictures or something he can tape to his computer so he better understands how things work.

  7. Kind of like your hockey players? Ferris is a stronger team than your first game.

Haha, classic post. So scheduling a D2 is now acceptable Dan?

I think MSU screwed FU over with the late cancellation but Dan's post above can only be rivaled the the guy on BVille who said the NCAA changed the D2 counter rule specifically for FU. It must be fun in the world some of those guys live in.

  8. It will be a challenge but its going to be an exciting non conference match up with a chance to turn some heads. We know what their offensive philosophy is going to be.

Our offense could also help our defense out tremendously by scoring points. If we get behind, with a defense needing improvement and a young QB under center, it could be a long game. The SDSU, Montana and Montana St. stretch of home games is going to be fun.

  9. As for Bohl correcting a ND reference . . . he just corrected it, he didn't get angry about or create a problem, just corrected it. Would a reporter call Michigan State, Michigan, without being corrected? Of course not. Really not related to this topic at all.

Because Coah Bohl is standing up for his team, similar to what Coach Jones was doing. While I'm disappointed with the entire situation, I would have been very disappointed if Jones would have not stuck up for his team in that situation. Did the team let one slip, yes. Is that a reason for a coach to throw his team under the bus in a live interview? Not in my opinion.

  10. What else is Ralston going to say? He had to either suck up, or lose his job. Ralston begging for his job and speaking the company line doesn't make what UND did right.

In my opinion, Jones having thin skin in the issue. Jones being confrontational during the interview was the problem instead of being mature enough to handle objective criticism from someone who is supposed to be objective in his opinion. Jones saying, "you are supposed to be one of us", was all I had to hear.

Also, would kill this board to have a thread on said topic, or is negative a no-no here? Does Jones control this board too? (ha-ha) Throwing this in the game thread, really?

Its a coaches job to stick up for his players. You would never hear Scott Miller talk to Coach Bohl or Coach Phillips that way and if he did Coach Bohl would be as defensive. I think back to Coach Bohl correcting a TV announcer when the team was called "North Dakota" instead of Fargo University. Coach Bohl got defensive and stood up for his team, which he should as the team leader. I look at this situation it the other way and think about what the players on the team would have thought if they would have heard their coach agreeing with the choke job statement on air.

All I needed to hear was other people who are actually in the profession agreeing with the punishment. You can spin it as Rolston pleading for his job but I think he actually realized he made mistake. TV announcers are supposed to be objective but there is also a line they don't cross. There have been many choke jobs over time in sports but I don't think I have heard any brought up in the post game interview.

  11. I thought they both looked good in the spring. We were running very vanilla stuff and they both made good throws and protected the ball well.

There is a lot of room to adjust some things on the offense next season fit each ones strengths and both guys are open about pushing each other which will only make them better. There is a lot to be excited about with both.

  12. Didn't really answer my question. Which conference would offer them an invite? Why would they choose said conference?

17 schools in the last 20 years have choosen another conference over the Summit and left. How is that suddenly going to change? I don't think anyone can name a conference but if an offer comes, history says a Summit school is going to accept.

  13. 1. UND accepted membership into the BSC before a deal could be worked out.

    2. The other MVFC schools would have told YSU to pound sand. What were they going to do about it?

The MVFC commish is on record saying USD's invitation only came after UND was in the BSC and they found out they weren't a package deal. She made it pretty clear that both were not getting in.

  14. From the same article mentioned above.

We’ve got eight strong members, but everyone’s talking about the ones that left. What about the ones are here and that are committed?

Well Tom, probably because there is a new school leaving every year. No one in that conference is committed. When schools are bailing to the WAC, something is going on.

  15. They can say what they want. Maybe that was the case and they changed their mind from awhile back. A few years back the Big 10 wouldn't have probably taken Rutgers or Maryland. A few years back the Big East wouldn't have taken San Diego State. Re-Alignment has been an interesting thing.

Are you of the opinion that UND-USD was more attractive than NDSU-SDSU?

You sound bitter that FU isn't in the Big Sky?

  16. The Summit offers UND no form of stability. The risk of UND leaving the Big Sky for the Summit, only to have a couple more members bolt for a new conference is to great. The strength of the Big Sky is the numbers and geography, it can afford to lose a member or two but I don't know where they will go.

I see it as the Summit will always be waiting for UND if it needs it. The history of that league has given no reason to believe they will not always be looking for members.

  17. So why was this entire board asking for Kelly's head on a platter? He was working very hard to rid the university of the nickname albatross during those days . . . you have a very selective memory it appears.

The whole situation was full of emotion on both sides. If you look at other nickname issues in the past and current, there is always emotion tied to it. When Dickinson St. changed from the Savages to the Bluehawks people weren't happy. Same at Univ. of Illinois. Read the current stories of the Redskins dilema going on in D.C.

On top of that, all of the teams above are not forced to change their name. UND was facing the NCAA sanctions (which UND admin prior to Kelly agreed to), scheduling troubles and losing recruits because of the name. Changing the name was the right thing to do to save athletics but I don't think many UND fans will say they were happy about it. Any time you are the person in charge during such an emotional issue, people will want you out. You are way off saying it was this entire board wanting Kelly out, but its your story so you can spin how you want.
