  1. I enjoy jokes at the expense of the AC as much as anyone, but what I don't find quite as funny is the thought of our guy Muss recruiting "toe to toe" with Bohl. Having this ESPN infomercial to push demand is downright frightening.

    Why even bother trying anymore?

  2. At this level, I don't think it's unusual for a new head coach to retain one or two assistants from the previous regime. Joe Glenn kept at least two of Meierkort's assistants. Bohl retained Vigen (and maybe more, I don't recall).

    And Bradley

  3. He makes a valid point. I know if I saw the type of crap that's being spewed on the board I would have second thoughts about letting my children be involved in UND athletics.

What part? Getting a great education? Being on a great campus? Having top notch facilities? Playing in the best conference in FCS? I could go on. There is nothing wrong with having expectations. We expect to win, not just participate. I think recruits should be excited to be part of a program that cares and is not satisfied with being average.

  4. I'm sure this season will do wonders for recruiting. How do you tell a kid to ignore how bad we are now and not look like we are desperate for him to come.

You sell the program, the school, the conference, opportunity for early playing time, etc. I don't know what our record is going to finish out this year. I do know UND has a lot to offer future players and its important to get those kids to campus so they can see it.

Last week I took a look at the roster and if you sort it by class its an interesting breakdown. If we aren't going to get player leadership from our upperclassmen, it is important to get it from the guys who will be around the next few years. We have a lot of Sophomores and RFr. who need to stay focused on improving.

  5. Cox and Cary do have nice size and I wonder what the deal is with Espanosa? Is he injured or something?

Carr at LB? I'm not sure how he could ever be a LB at 5'9 195? There's no way.

Our lbs don't tackle anyone anyways

  6. I have a couple questions. Do you think we have 3-4 style DEs? And do you think it hurts us to have such short small safeties?

No and yes. The DE we signed from Wisconsin last year is what our incoming DEs need to look like. About 260 lbs. Baylee Carr should be a lb.

Size is only part of it though. There is way more to our defensive struggles.

  7. So if Muss is fired.....who is on the short list of replacements? I will admit to having absolutely no clue on this one.

In my mind you open it up. Any candidate coming in here will have facilities nearly as good as anything in FCS. A team with some young talent that needs some leadership.

You may get a young FBS coordinator type coach. Possibly a current assistant coach in the Big Sky or another FCS conference or possibly some of the names mentioned earlier. I don't think you give it to anyone before opening it up.

  8. What are the options?? IMO Bartels isn't a better one. Joe was not good last night but he was still better than any O lineman or anybody on the opposite side of the ball.

I agree with this. I was happy to see the coaches stick with Joe as long as they did. With zero running game and a marginal oline it is asking a lot of a freshman qb to throw it 50 times. He is going to make mistakes and I still believe Molberg is a better option right now being more mobile. More concerns for me than our qb.

  9. With the upgrade in facilities coming now is the time to open the check book and get some new blood at the top. If that guy wants to change assistants (more than likely) that's fine. If we don't find someone new we are spending 20 million on the IPF and will remain mediocre.

  10. This will be another test for the O and D lines. I get a little nervous when I hear this will be the best Oline we face this year and last year, even though we scored a ton of points it was very clear that Montana had a lot of talent in their front 7 of their defense. We need to run with our bigger defensive line we started using in the 2nd half vs. SDSU and our Oline needs to get healthy. Being down 2 starters isn't ideal.

  11. He did. Demler and Comes both left the team after 1 and 2 years respectively and Bradley only made it one year. There was a QB in each class (excluding a redshirt) in 2011. Two of those QB's graduated, 2 left the program. That is where the hole occured. And after how the last JuCo experience went, I see why Mussman didn't try again. A guy like Hanson is a very rare occurence.

Here's what the QB roster has looked like since 2009:

    2009

    Landry - Jr

    Goska - So

    Hendrickson - RFr

    Nichols - RFr

    Townsend - Fr

    2010

    Landry - Sr

    Goska - Jr

    Nichols - So

    Hendrickson - So

    Demler - Fr

    Comes - Fr

    2011

    Goska - Sr

    Hendrickson - Jr

    Bradley - So

    Comes - RFr

    2012

    B. Hanson - Sr

    Hendrickson - Sr

    Bartels - Fr

    J. Hanson - Fr

    Mollberg - Fr

    2013

    Bartels - RFr

    J. Hanson - RFr

    Mollberg - RFr

Riddle - Fr (has left team)

    Palendech - Fr

    QB's recruited by year:

    2009 - 1

    2010 - 2

    2011 - 0

    2012 - 3

    2013 - 2

    Thank you for posting this.

  12. Last year our DB's were greenhorns. We were giving you guys way too much room to work with. Many times they were lined up 8-10 yds from your receivers. We also had our LB's lined up out there on an island with your receivers too when we should have been playing in a nickle or dime package and they couldnt keep up.

Our defense was also on the field way too much last year and it showed in the 2nd half when you torched us. They wont be on the field as much as they were last year. This year our secondary has been playing very well. They've been going up against probably one of the best QB's in the conference this year in practice. I know its practice but still it carries over to the actual game. I was really impressed on how they played against App St granted they were without their best WR.

Alot of times when a team play Montana they lose the next week. There's always a let down. Ive seen it happen way too many times.

So your going to press our wrs on Saturday?

How good is the App St team you beat?

  13. I do not think that the injury will be that big of a game changer. I still see us losing big. Hope I am way off though.

Not sure who their backup is but he has put up some of the best overall qb numbers in fcs the last couple years and has started since he was a freshman. You don't just replace that.
