  1. Nice update Sic. It will definately be interesting to watch. Withall the things going on behind the scenes, conference AD's and their commissioners may feel comfortable in the morning, only to end up watching a press conference of a school leaving for another conference that afternoon.

  2. You can't really say Sutton was not effective last year. He didn't have break away speed but he was our most consistent back. It would have been really hard to bench him. And with the previous seasons Miller had, they were 1-2 in my book. I don't think it was the backs last year, I think it was the Oline. Need improvement there.

  3. To clean up our offer list even more on Wiki, we can update the following:

    • Tony Gumina - Wisconsin - Whitewater
    • Mitch Wehrli - Colorado Mesa
    • Tyler Rogers - Air Force
    • Mike Langman - Dartmouth
    • Dean Helt - Illinois State
    • Tyler Lloyd - Iowa Western
    • Akeem Roller - Iowa Western
    • Direll Clark - Winona State (must have been a non-qualifier with offers from Purdue and Minnesota)

Can't find anything on Kenneth Kidd, Frankie Felix, Grant Bartell or Reshon Watson.

Those two really surprise me. Both of them had a lot of offers.

  4. He must be fairly confident Oakland is sticking around. The AQ for those other teams hinges on a college that has not hid the fact that they want to leave the conference. The Summit would have been nice for baseball, but we have a conference with a AQ.

  5. I have wondered about UNC. It is later in the year so attendance will likely dip but being an old NCC school may help. I think the thing lacking with the Big Sky teams right now is recognition. It will take some time, and a few incidents or close games (like Montana) last year to build some recognition with fans. They also need to understand the conference so they get next year we have all the traditional conference powers coming to the Alerus. Thats a big deal.

  6. my knowledge was certainly outdated, however it remains that UND does not pay or hire like the program that we expect it to be. Can you honestly see the AD paying a new d-coordinator 100k+ to pull him out of NDSU, as in the stanard example (who i think would be a solid hire).

I'm not the one who brought up his name. I was just stating its highly unlikely that UND pays their head coach less than a position coach at FU like you were implying. It doesn't matter which year you were getting your information from to see that.

I already stated earlier Kotelnicki is probably the leading candidate but opening it up outside is the wise thing to do. If we can find a candidate better than Kotels, he's going to be a good coach but I really think he has the football knowledge to excel at this position and would be a good replacement now that our talent on D is starting to improve.

  7. mussman is only making ~90 iirc. Thats not much more than a run of the mill assistant at a school that actually funds it's coaching staff at a reasonable level.

I really love that i'm always the bad guy, even when i'm criticizing the lack of support given to the football (and BB) teams. I guess i should just except mediocrity like you do, because thats the sign of a real fan.

I just figured for being such a "huge UND fan" you would know how much the head coach gets paid. It was just in the paper less than a year ago. Has nothng to do with whether a fan agrees with the program right now or not.

  8. I'm going Spencer Cummings on defense and Ivery at DB. I think he may not be an every down guy but he's athletic enough that we may be able to throw him in there and play man on the other teams number 1 or 2 WR. He may even surprise enough and climb the chart this offseason. Everyone knows DB is wide open.

On offense, Robertson is the obvious choice, Kevin Bayer at FB and our entire OL in the run game.

  9. Your jealousy of the Summit is funny. If they would have invited UND to join you'd have nothing but good to say about it. Denver couldn't wait to get out of the WAC and join. By the way NDSU is the marquee in the Summit and Oakland isn't even close.

UND cancelled their meeting with the Summit a couple weeks before it happened. I don't think it was the Summit who didn't want UND.

  10. I wouldn't be surprised if stanard is currently earning more than mussman.

Unlikely but don't let you hate for UND get in the way of your "love" of both programs.

  11. I honestly would be comfortable with Kotelnicki but I hope they open it up to others as well. I think there are some pretty good candidates out there who would be interested.

  12. This is great news - Hooker is very highly thought of and obviously had a lot of options.

See my post (in a few minutes) regarding a bunch of 2014 recruits we had in town over the weekend which resluted in at least one offer.

Have you heard of any more recruiting news for 2013? After watching the game yesterday I am curious to see what Jones is doing with the available scholorships. This is making me nervous.

  13. We need to start getting some open looks from behind the arc, we have only taken 1 shot from behind the arc

This is what I was thinking. We need Hooker next year just to have a guard who can shoot. Our guards can't score if its not penetration and a layup. They don't even honor us at the arc.

  14. At least we pay our coaches a competitive salary - more than I can say about some schools.

Compared to FCS and the Summit league. Yes you do. Can FU afford to pay Bohl $240,000 and pay Phillips $250,000? Would FU be willing to pay men's basketball coach more than the football coach? Also, the salaries of women's bball and volleyball would probably have to be raised as well.

  15. What does UNI have in the valley that Fargo couldn't. Fargo could easily pass them just like they did in football.

The ability to pay their men's basketball coach $500,000/year. People seem to be overlooking that FU's coaching salaries would need to go way up to fit in that conference. Saul Phillips salary would have to double just to be in the conversation with the lowest paid coach. Drake pays their coach 7 figures. Were is that money going to come from? buttfootball

  16. Lakesbison will be the governor of ND before the MVC adds a school that has never had an RPI under 300 and zero history of success.

New stadium with a basketball program to throw all their money at. Past history won't matter. Hockey can fend for itself. You could say the same thing about them adding a team 200 miles north of Brookings out of their conference footprint.

  17. Agreed. Have heard Combs, Opara and Akeem Roller all are academic casualties. Look for these guys to end up going the Juco route.

I'd say there is a 5% chance of Opara getting everything in order to attend UND by this fall. I hope I'm wrong. Would love to see him there.

That is some pretty good talent. Hopefully those guys get everything straightened out. Thanks for the update.
