  1. Is that your opinion or is that what you've heard with your connections? A month ago there was an article stating that it was down to UND & MI. Now you're stating that UND never stood a chance with him.
  2. Next year's team as it's currently being structured reminds me of Mankato last year: heavy, physical & older. Which yes, this experience should win them some more games. But to put UND over the top, they could use an elite F from the CHL who can give them 40+ points to make them a legitimate contender, instead of just relying on scoring by committee.
  3. At some point, UND will have to learn from these lesser teams & overcome them if they want to go deep in the playoffs in any given year. Because if it's not BSU, there'll always be a Canisius or RMU kind of team on the schedule who can equally ruin UND's year like BSU can. Have a Spartan-like attitude with whomever they play. I trust that Jackson will have the team better prepared & motivated against BSU in the future.
  4. UND has 8 non-conference games that are must-wins. As experience proves, a bad win hurts a team's PWR more than a good win helps it. A burger isn't the only thing that gets flipped.
  5. Weak non-conference schedule outside of MN.
  6. Please clarify what you mean by 'loaded'. Try to frame 'loaded' in terms of the number of high draft choices on a college team, because 'skilled players' is vague (ie, Penn St had quite a few skilled players last year, but they were far from loaded). Would 4 or more players on a team drafted in the 2nd round or higher fit your definition of a loaded team?
  7. Brendan McMorrow? EP has him going to DU, unless you're referring to a different McMorrow.
  8. No issue with that, many or most schools are in negotiations with players before they officially enter the portal.. it's when schools are in talks with players of other teams during the season that it becomes unethical.
  9. Also: "It establishes the mechanism to recalculate college athletics’ version of a salary cap and sets the 2025–26 overall number at $20.5 million for schools to share if they opt in to the settlement." $20.5m doesn't seem like a lot of money for schools to share in the grand scheme of things if there'll be quite a few participating.
  10. Thanks for posting this. It's supposed to start in the 2025-26 season. Of note: "In one of the more controversial aspects of the settlement, all NIL deals with third parties over $600 are set to be approved by a new clearinghouse administered by the consulting firm Deloitte. Some agreements deemed not fair market value will enter into an arbitration process. That has resulted in a slew of dealmaking this month between schools, third-party collectives and numerous high-profile players to get things over the line before they would be required to submit their deals to the clearinghouse."
  11. This is an interesting development. Can you post a credible link stating such?
  12. Are all these businesses located in GF?
  13. Some American boys who would normally play in the USHL are opting to play in the CHL. Curious to see which league's talent pool will be more negatively impacted in the long-term.
  14. Appreciate your informed replies. The part about NIL Clearinghouse making sure it isn't pay-for-play is quite eye-opening.
  15. The main advertiser on Through These Doors this past year was First Community Credit Union. Its main commercial this year was Jackson Kunz with a few others. So the 1883 arranged for Kunz & the other 3 to do a commercial for FCCU & then FCCU proceeded to pay them. Easy enough. My question is for the individuals such as @brianvf & others who donate to the 1883. Let's say $200k is collected from these individuals for the hockey program; not from businesses, but from individuals. These individuals are not a business & aren't donating for a commercial or some other promotion to be done for them where the player "earns" for his services. So how do these players "earn" this $200k collected from the 1883 via individuals if they're not doing a commercial or some other promotion?
  16. If you buy a jersey for $100 & a player gets a cut of that, your money is going to him, not the school's. That commercial on Through These Doors this year where they had those 4 student-athletes, also was paid for by a private entity, in that case from a bank.
  17. If UND were actually allocating NIL money to the hockey team, you'd think that they would give a lot more than just $125k to its flagship program to ease some of the burden on the collective. Will believe it when I read it that NIL money is also coming from schools & not just private donors; because all the current literature says otherwise. At one point, if not still, UND was in contention for McKenna. That means they were/are (am guessing here) probably offering him around 2-$300k, at least. Even if they don't get him, they'll probably need at least $100k for a top CHL center or wing.
  18. Interesting. When you say the school came up with $125k for Dane, do you mean it came from the 1883? Because NIL is all privately-funded. Is UND offering NIL to any other players besides Zellers? Wondering if they're saving some of that stash for a high-end center. A little surprised that one of the wealthiest families in ND, if not the wealthiest, the Rydells of GF, aren't donating big money to the hockey program.
  19. He may also be traded for a center/picks because the Canucks are deep at D.
  20. "UND could begin interviews as soon as this week."-Schlossman
  21. His numbers don't exactly inspire confidence, even as a backup..unless he's the 3rd guy.
  22. Curious whether the associate position is solely decided by Chaves, a joint decision with Jackson or if Jackson will be the one making the call.
  23. The only way the fans & admin could have known about the drop-off in recruiting is if the beat reporter had written about it. But it's difficult to ascertain if he had known about this deficiency before the firing or not.
  24. A good number of fans here were also carrying the previous regime's water to a large degree, hesitant to any thought of a HC change. It's an interesting dynamic when you've got a successful program falling below expectations for the last 7-8 years & the number of people who deny or rationalize away these shortcomings. If UND hadn't had a rash of injuries early last year, there's a good chance UND flips a few of those bad losses, squeaks into the playoffs & BB is still at the helm. Those injuries, while seeming to be a bad thing at the time, were a blessing in disguise & probably were the catalyst leading to his firing; preventing this program from sinking any further. If the HC had remained the same, the UND fanbase would still be clueless about how much the active recruiting had fallen off & Chyzyk would still be in Waterloo.
  25. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/center-jack-kernan-commits-to-und His decision came down to UND and Wisconsin. "North Dakota is a premier organization," Kernan said. "It has been such a big program for so many years. The facilities and coaching staff are great. The players were really good to me when I got up there to see it myself. It felt like the right fit." Kernan visited UND this week. He arrived Wednesday and left Thursday. "It was amazing," Kernan said. "It started off by meeting the staff, then an amazing tour of The Ralph. It was mind-blowing in a way. The facilities are unbelievable. I got to have dinner with the coaching staff. "Then, I got to hang out with some of the guys and be around them. I felt invited. They were very inviting and friendly. It was a great way to meet some of them and feel like part of the team in a way. We wrapped it up, I talked with the staff and came to the decision that this is the fit."
