Humanitarian Bowl renamed the Idaho Famous Potato Bowl Has the Potato Bowl name been trademarked? Since this bowl game will now be WAC vs MAC, Boise State being in the MWC likely won't be a participant. This website would probably get a lot of hits if it was up.

Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune: WCHA / CCHA had merger talks in Chicago Been reported in some blogs, but thought the discussion was appropriate here. Hope a CCHA/WCHA merger doesn't happen, as then college hockey would essentially go back to having "full" conferences (especially if WMU / Notre Dame go to NCHC). UAH and Moorhead would be frozen out of any leagues. It would be so much better for the growth of college hockey if the AHA "four" moved over to the CCHA. Blog - College Hockey Shuffle

There is so much natural gas available in the U.S in shale that is just beginning to be developed, that the U.S. can become the world's major exporter of natural gas later in the decade. The issue is that the US doesn't have the liquefaction/export capabilities installed to sell and export liquid natural gas. (Although a company called Cheniere is spending billions on a plant near Beaumont, Texas, to convert an nat gas import facility to an export facilty.) China and Canada are also working on an export facility on the British Columbia coast to export Canada's Nat gas (and some U.S.) to China. Because natural gas will become so cheap and plentiful in this country, there is active consideration being given to construct huge natural gas to gasoline conversion plants. As far as oil offshore, don't even ask. California, Florida, and possibly much of the east coast have huge reserves that can't be touched. In the meantime, Cuba is leasing it's offshore to non-U.S. countries for drilling near Key West. Seattle Times: Cuba's Oil, our mess Can't drill in Alaska, but that's not stopping Russia, Norway, or Denmark/Greenland from drilling in treacherous offshore waters: Russia, Norway, Denmark (Greenland) move to develop Arctic Ocean Oil U.S. companies are experiencing a permitorium in the Gulf of Mexico, but the U.S. Government approves of and helps establish Petrobas a as major oil player off shore of Brazilian sensitive ecologies: July 21, Brazil announces major oil find

Ever heard of Teapot Dome, in Wyoming, where natural gas and oil were discovered precisely because the oil and gas were seeping into the groundwater - naturally? That's how almost all the oil and natural gas discoveries were first made in the 1800's. If a documentary was ever made on the tens of thousands of birds killed by wind turbines, the public would protest wind turbines as mass killing machines. That is a much more sensible and justifiable cause. "Gasland "is just a propaganda film intended to terrorize a gullible public into killing an industry that actually has a chance to bring the US energy independence. Fracking happens thousands of feet underground. In the case of Bakken 7 -10000 feet. In the case of Utica, 10 -15,000 feet. There has never been evidence anywhere that fracking itself has caused groundwater contamination. Drilling of any conventional oil or gas or even water wells or wastewater disposal wells, has as much likelihood of contaminating groundwater, because those wells pierce groundwater aquifers. If the casing is improperly installed in the vertical section of a well, any well can create issues. From: CNN: EOG's big gamble on Bakken Shale was a winning bet

The WCHA doesn't even want Lake Sup State (until after they know the status of Moorhead). It's highly unlikely that the WCHA would touch UAH, especially with one, or even two, Alaska schools. If the AHA loses four schools, it might take UAH. There more chatter that Notre Dame wants its own league, with WMU, BC, BU, UNH, and Maine. That would really change things up with Hockey East down to six schools.

Ohio and Pennsylvania were the two of the original "oil" states. Looks like Ohio will again become a major energy producer. The Utica formation under much of eastern Ohio has more gas and liquids than the best new field in Texas (Eagle Ford). UAH seeks hockey funding, conference Appears that the new CCHA may require travel incentives to include UAH. That type money would likely have to be raised, otherwise the program might be dropped. The hockey program alumni probably realize that the UAH administration won't subsidize travel, unless that money is raised privately. Letter requesting funds for the UAH hockey program:

I actually had it the other way around: the AHA four (Niagara, Canisius, Robert Morris, and Mercyhurst) want Alaska out of the CCHA before they join. If Alaska stays, what remains of the CCHA may very well be screwed. With a new CCHA consisting of those four AHA schools plus Ferris and Bowling Green and even Lake State, the travel for the AHA four would be much less than all their bus trips to New England, where most of the AHA schools are. Even though Alaska would almost certainly continue subsidizing travel, the AHA schools probably aren't real interested in gaining a couple of extra games. The travel connections and hassles from Buffalo or Erie to Fairbanks would be crazy. The WCHA needs to do the right thing for the good of hockey and take Alaska.
-
Sounds like the Nanooks may be headed for the WCHA: Fairbanks New-Miner While the AHA schools may be waiting for Alaska to leave before they commit to the new CCHA: GoErie: Mercyhurst, CCHA weigh options It's possible that the survival of the Bowling Green and Ferris State programs may hinge on the WCHA accepting Alaska.

Good info! Any chance that Syracuse could take the men's hockey plunge, join with Notre Dame and take a Hockey East offer? However much RPI or Qunnipiac would love to tag team with Notre Dame, just can't see Notre Dame going that direction without a another name school (like UConn). Hopefully, openings are created for college hockey to grow. What are the chances that Rhode Island and/or Navy join Atlantic Hockey. A new CCHA may finally give some other Michigan DII's, like Grand Valley and Saginaw Valley, a conference opening they've never had before.

Teeder: You made my point. The Herald never put its own journalist on the story. Instead, it relied on the AP's report for a story in its own backyard. As far as Dennis' editorial, it handled Kelley's administration with kid gloves. Reminiscent of the Fargo Forum going to bat for Chapman for years (even doing Chapman's dirty work), only to result in both Chapman and the Forum being presented later as the corrupt entities they truly were. The Herald can do so much better, Teeder.

From a Niagara board, sounds like Terry Pegula may match up to $15 mill in Canisus donations. The Lake Sup State and even Ferris fans may moan about the potential new teams in the CCHA, but in the end the CCHA has a chance to prosper with new teams in Erie, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. How would RIT respond to four Atlantic Hockey teams moving over to the CCHA? RIT is a huge school to be in the DIII ranks. Any chance it would move to DI?

Buffalo Sabre's owner Terry Pegula may have started Penn State's program, but also is considering donating a new arena for Canisius, which would help gain them and Niagara gain admission to the CCHA: Buffalo News: Canisius and Niagara need to make power play for CCHA

Northern Colorado does not pay their coaches well, so one can likely assume Galbraith came to UND as part of a pay increase. Since NC also recruited some foreign athletes, would also assume scholarships associated with T&F will be increased at UND relative to NC

Most of those AHA schools have a history of traveling to Huntsville (even now), so I like Huntsville's odds if those western AHA schools move over to the CCHA. A bus trip to Huntsville is probably often less time consuming/stressful for most of those schools than a trip to Sault Saint Marie/Lake Sup State in winter conditions. In many respects, Northern Michigan moving over to the WCHA helps open up the AHA schools to the idea of moving to the CCHA, as Marquette is an even more difficult travel spot, especially for teams coming from the east.
-
CCHA and Four AHA Schools to meet Great news for Lake Sup State, Ferris St, Bowling Green, and maybe WMU: Maybe not so good for Alaska. It is much harder to fly to Fairbanks from the eastern US without multiple connections than it is to Anchorage. Because there is a direct flight between Minneapolis and Fairbanks, Alaska is a better fit for the WCHA.
