  1. Considering that you go by "NDSU Student" on bisonville, reasonable people would classify the bolded statement as totallly untrue . Again, get over your insecurities about NDSU. This thread was never about smacking NDSU or their research. But with NDSU posters continually attacking the statistics in this thread as irrelevant, the insecurities of the bison fan base are definitely revealed.
  2. Isn't Big Iron in the Fargodome right now? I never said the Fargdome was a cheap place, and the analogy fits: most tractor repair places also sell tractors, like the Fargodome. Just admit it, you most of your bison fans hate this thread because it reveals UND fans in very good light. What's seems even more galling to you is that the only athletic thing NDSU has going for it is football, and even that doesn't have national respect. That's why bison fans see their Minnesota game as their Super Bowl: their only chance to make ESPN every three years. Is it because of personal insecurities or of your own institutional insecurity that you took offense at the statistics? What does that say about you? I respect NDSU as an institution. But most of their fans and many of their coaches I have very low respect for (with certain exceptions, like Don Morton or even Saul Phillips now, I think are exemplary people.) Until you can prove that UND hockey does not benefit the bottom line of UND athletics, your arbitrary decision to eliminate hockey as part of attendance just shows a total lack of business critical thinking and your way of attacking UND. Every DI school has to sponsor at least 14 sports - every sport costs money. So by your token, the huge amount of fans that show up at Texas State for baseball, or at multiple sports for Old Dominion (women's basketball, and soccer and multiple other sportsare huge there), or volleyball and wrestling at Northern Iowa, or hockey plus multiple other sports at Cornell, should be rejected. As far as your personal attacks on me, does that mean that most bison fans on bisonville are nano-people because of their perpetual smack attacks on UND. Is that why NDSU does well in nanotech? (there, just giving NDSU some institutional credit for its nano-technology!)
  3. Guess somebody's feelings are hurt. I just knew a Sioux-hater like you would absolutely hate it, especially the tractor repair/strip club analogy. Bet you already complained about it on bisonviile. Can't believe how consistent bison fans are in being whiners.
  4. The problem with NDSU fans is that they've been drinking so much Bisonville jealousy and envy koolaid that continually spouts the mantra that hockey is irrelevant, that after a while they believe what is nothing more than propaganda. If NDSU built up its wrestling program so that it brought in Iowa State or Iowa type crowds, that would be counted too, even though the vast majority of FCS schools do not have wrestling. A few of the schools actually have large crowds that pay to watch gymnastics and lacrosse: that was counted too. Are you aware that UND's athletic budget is nearly four million more than NDSU's? Four million. This from a school that hasn't even finished it's transition, isn't getting much from the NCAA as part of it's reimbursement, and is getting nothing from a conference. Even moreso, UND athletic's budget doesn't cover the cost of the Ralph, which is paid for by UND hockey tickets purchased. When the Ralph is combined into UND athletics, the disparity between UND and NDSU would be closer to 10 million. As much as you might dislike the numbers presented, as far as a business UND is in the upper echelon of schools in FCS (like Old Dominion, or Delaware, or Cornell), while NDSU is in a tier beneath that. A school like USD is even lower (and how they do as well as they do, is a credit to their coaches.) Think of it as a business analogy. UND athletics is like the Canad Inn complex: each spectator sport is a different restaurant or entertainment venue. Some of those restaurants actually don't have that great of food (and need a new head chef), but overall it is a pretty decent experience. UND chooses to offer a water park (hockey and swimming), while NDSU claims that would be too expensive. NDSU athletics is more like a tractor repair shop, with an attached greasy spoon, a Motel 6, and a tawdry strip club (attracting the derelict characters that is so often witnessed in Fargo police bookings). Both complexes somewhat serve the same purposes to the alumni (entertainment, lodging, food) , but to non-alumni the appearance is entirely different.
  5. The latest rumors on that are crazy: OU and Okla St to the PAC12, Texas, Texas Tech and ND to the ACC, and Kansas/KSU/Missouri/Iowa St to the Big East. With all the threats of lawsuits, who knows when this will be resolved.
  6. CHA accepts LIndenwood application - will make decision within the month With the CHA getting to six teams, it will also gain an autobid. Wouldn't be surprised if Ohio State moves in the near future.
  7. The WCHA's membership offers to WMU and Bowling Green expire next week. Bowling Green Still mulling WCHA Bowling Green in the WCHA doesn't help BGSU much from a perception issue with its fans (the new WCHA is a GLIAC/N Sun hybrid), unless the WCHA also includes WMU and the AHA-4. What Bowling Green seems to from the WCHA is room for up to 16 schools and two divisions. In the best of all worlds, BGSU would save the CCHA and it's autobid, but can't control what happens to WMU. For BGSU, a league of BGSU, WMU, UAH, and the AHA-4 makes the most sense, but WMU probably prefers the WCHA if they don't get in the NCHC. Without WMU, a six team league with UAH is too risky for BGSU.
  8. Link for following volleyball this weekend: Gametracker at SF Austin UND should be favored against all three Texas teams it is playing this weekend: Rice, Stephen F Austin, and Sam Houston St. It's quite possible that UND can now run out the season unbeaten, as on paper, only SDSU, Utah Valley, and possibly USD provide much competition, and UND should be favored against all three, even on their courts.
  9. Even funnier are the salaries: Chris Kuper: $7,000,000 per year Joe Mays: $550,000 per year. NFL salaries NDSU fans are always whining about funding disparities.
  10. T-shirts with Slippery Rock State and Transylvania State make those schools arguably more famous than Appalachian State, and few people have any clue where any of those three schools are. Because of it's name, people associate Appy State as some sort of backwards place - Boone is more like Boulder, CO than Hazard County, Kentucky.
  11. Yeah, right, they know a lot about ASU. Even after losing to ASU, the average person in MIchigan thinks Appalachian State is either in West Virginia or Kentucky. I live within 60 miles of Boone, NC and go weeks without seeing a reminder of Appy's existence. By contrast, the presences of Va Tech and Tennessee colors, both about two hours away, are impossible to avoid. Appy State alumni certainly turn out for their football games - the campus is awesome in the fall and just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway - but the rest of Appy State athletics is a total afterthough.
  12. Just another stupid ass comment. FCS football stadiums seat 2-10 times more than college hockey. FCS football plays in front of more empty seats than college hockey. FCS football loses way more money than men's college hockey. Many schools make money on men's college hockey: few make any money on FCS football. Most FCS teams bleed red ink badly. FCS football is more irrelevant than college hockey - on that we all agree.
  13. On this board, there have been a number of people that were very high on Tim Miles (well before NDSU's run) and Craig Smith, who are now both at Colorado State. Granted, those two are coaching basketball, but the very same principle applies. Early recognition of coaching talent laboring at lower levels can pay major dividends, especially for a program like UND, which budgets decently for recruiting but not for coaches salaries. The problem with looking at the FBS level for coaching talent is that even the assistants at mid-majors often make more than Mussman. The whole program underpays coaches relative to the upper tier of the MVFC or Big Sky. (Granted, USD and SDSU pay similarly to UND.) Unless the assistant coaching salaries are significantly increased, Mussman's hands are tied, as he can't pay enough to attract the assistant coaching talent he needs. The whole football program took a nosedive under Lt Col Buning's watch and we are still reaping the fruits of that administration. The signing of two games with Idaho for only $100 k each was effectively stealing UND football's budget blind. UND should have gotten at least twice that. Ridiculous that the trip ends up costing UND. Doubt any other FCS team has played an FBS team, received a guarantee, and lost money on the deal just on the travel.
  14. The same ndsu idiots that argue that hockey is non-consequential, don't even realize that hockey attracts a higher total attendance than FCS football. In effect, they are arguing that FCS football - and bison football - is even more irrelevant than college hockey.
  15. Santa Clara livestats Santa Clara live video
  16. A certain bison poster that used to lecture this board frequently share his "thoughts": NDSU fan lambasting UND volleyball fan behavior Strange how that poster doesn't even understand the humor in men's swimming team appearance. The women volleyball teams get a lot of fun poked at them on campus about their tight form fitting uniforms. One of the points that the men's swimming team wanted to make in a fun way is that their "uniform" is even more revealing at their events. BTW, the Sioux women are babes!
  17. On the coaches show last night, Hardee talked about a post-season bid. At the time, thought he meant CIT-, NIT- type bid (which after checking doesn't seem to exist in volleyball). If UND submitted the paperwork a couple of years ago (before there was a moratorium) maybe UND volleyball is eligible. Don't recall any announcement. USD moved up it's track and field teams up to DI during the transition. I think NDSU and SDSU moved up their volleyball and wrestling teams up.
  18. Very much agree with this statement. With a practice facility and the Alerus, UND would have top-notch FCS facilities. The issue is the energy of the fans in the Alerus - not the Alerus. The energy used to be there - it's not there now at all. But it's in the Betty. How did that happen? Maybe some secret ingredients spelled with the letters W I N and P A S S I O N
  19. Hardee himself has said the rivalry game is huge for regional recruiting. In the volleyball world, a crowd of 2400 makes other volleyball coaches nervous about the recruiting implications, as not many programs have that type support. On the coaches program tonight, Hardee said that this area's recruiting has the talent to consistently deliver a top-25 program to UND. The Betty is practically a perfect facility to attract top level talent. He also said, in a self-deprecating way, that perhaps coaching is what would prevent a top-25 program from happening. Hardee also mentioned that he thinks UND is a top-50 level program now, and top-25 is possible this year. Regarding this weekend, Santa Clara has been a Final Four program during the past decade (missed the last two NCAAs but had a string of like 10 appearances before that). Also described UC-Santa Barbara as a top-50 program and has eight appearances in the last ten NCAA's (6-8 NCAA record).
  20. Am certainly not a volleyball mind, but there's demographic reasons UND can excel: 1. Midwest and California are best recruiting grounds, so even lower level conference like the MAC, MoValley, Big West, West Coast, and Horizon can have power teams. Height and coordination matter - not as much athleticism is needed as in basketball - so Midwestern girls can really excel in the sport. 2. A number of BCS programs place little emphasis on volleyball - the Big East and SEC, with a few exceptions (like Florida and Tennessee), are relatively mediocre conferences. 3. The South and East Coast generally just don't value volleyball at the H.S. level. In the Midwest, it's a reasonably popular and respected sport. 4. VB only allows 12 scholarships - compared to 15 for women's BB. So in UND's case, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska aren't signing talent that just sits on the bench like they do in women's basketball. 5. Facilities - the Betty is practically built for volleyball. Most DI schools play volleyball in a cavernous arena or in a cracker box gym, so either have no home field advantage or are non-fan friendly.
  21. Penn State women's team joins CHA, Ohio State next? No big surprise here with Penn State's decision Seems likely that Ohio State follows Penn State. Lindenwood is looking for a conference: that would make 7. Where are the 8th, 9th, and 10th teams coming from? The ECAC is at 12, which is perfect for them. Are some schools seriously considering adding hockey?
  22. Only the movable half of the west end stands are used for basketball in the Alerus, so it's capacity is actually less (9500).
  23. If UND can maintain volleyball attendance at 800+ / match for the rest of the season, UND should make the top 50 in attendance this year. 2010 Volleyball Attendance Leaders (Averages) 1. Hawaii 6169 2. Nebraska 4639 3. Wisconsin 3737 10. Wichita St 2501 14. N Iowa 2116 37. Creighton 1101 43. NDSU 987 47. No Colorado 963 NCAA volleyball attendance leaders
  24. "Official" basketball capacity is 12119, but it depends on what type of bleachers and/or chairs are used at the ends of the court (higher bleachers allow more people near the court, but obstruct the view of fans behind the "goals"). The Kansas game attendance would be difficult to match, as the Ralph was new, and a lot of people just came to gawk at it. Also, true Kansas fans made up maybe 10% of those in attendance, while a lot of people came to see (and cheer) Boschee.
  25. Bison fans are making excuses for their loss, which is normal for whenever that school loses in anything. Perhaps the team was intimidated by the crowd, as the bison players sure seemed to be sweating a lot - and then wiping up the floor to delay play when the momentum was against them.
