UPDATE: The Princeton Review rankings are for 2006. I was uncertain if this had been addressed previously or not...but given the negative press UND has received lately (nickname) I thought it would be good to remember that UND is considered nationally as a "top" college. It would appear that UND is considered the top school within the state of North Dakota and on par with other regional universities.

...here is another report. The Best 361 Colleges from the Princeton Review. I believe this is for 2005. UND UofMontana UofMinnesota are included. USD SDSU Montana State NDSU are not.

UND - 3rd Tier (National) USD - 3rd Tier (National) SDSU - 3rd Tier (National) UofM (Montana) - 3rd Tier (National) MSU (Montana State) - 3rd Tier (National) NDSU - 4th Tier (National) UofM (Twin Cities) - 1st Tier (National - #74) The third tier schools are ranked alphabetically...you need to purchase the full report for $14.95 for the complete rankings. Does anyone have the full report? Do you think regional midwestern schools (like those above) could ever be ranked in the 1st or 2nd tiers? If so...how do we improve? If not, why not? Thoughts...?

(posted from above link) Issued by the North Dakota Tourism Bureau to ALL visiting Californians and Northeastern Urbanites: 1) Don't order filet mignon or pasta primavera at Kroll's Kitchen. It's a diner. They serve breakfast 24 hours a day. Let them cook something they know. If you upset the ladies in the kitchen, they'll kick your ass. 2) Don't laugh at the names of our little towns (Minnewauken, Rolla, Gackle, Osnabrock, Cando, Walhalla, Zap, etc.) or we will just HAVE to kick your ass. 3) Don't order a bottle or a can of soda here. Up here it's called pop. Accept it. Doing otherwise can lead to an ass kicking. 4) We know our heritage. Most of us are more literate than you. We are also better educated and generally a lot nicer. Don't refer to us as a bunch of hicks or we'll kick your ass. 5) We have plenty of business sense. You have to to make a living up here. Naturally, we do sometimes have small lapses in judgment from time to time, but we are not dumb enough to let someone move to our state in order to run for the Senate. If someone tried to do that, we would kick their ass. 6) Don't laugh at our giant fiberglass cows and our turtles made out of car parts. Anything that inspires tourists to buy 50,000 postcards can't be bad. When you're in Jamestown, don't point at the genitalia on the giant buffalo or we'll kick your ass. 7) We are fully aware of how cold it gets here in the winter, so shut the hell up. Just spend your money and get the hell out of here or we'll kick your ass. 8) Don't order the vegetarian special at the local diner. Everyone will instantly know that you're a tourist. Eat your steak well-done like God intended and have some potatoes with that, for heaven's sake! Also, don't ask what a hot dish is or we'll kick your ass. 9) Don't try to fake a NoDak accent. We don't have an accent. Do NOT mention the movie "Fargo" as that will incite a riot and you will get your ass kicked. 10) Don't talk about how much better things are at home because we know better. Many of us have visited big-city hell-holes like Detroit, New York, and LA, and we have the scars to prove it. If you don't like it here, Northwest Airlines is ready when you are. Move your ass on home before it gets kicked. 11)Yes, we know that ice fishing is "not your thing." We don't care. If you don't understand the beauty of being out on a lake when it's 10 degrees then you should go home and try fishing in New York Harbor. Also, don't hog the heater in the fish house or we'll kick your ass. 12) Don't complain that North Dakota is flat and that there aren't enough trees. If you whine about OUR scenic beauty we'll kick your ass all the way back to Cleveland. 13) Don't ridicule our mannerisms. We only speak when spoken to. We hold doors open for others. We offer our seats to old folks because such things are expected of civilized people. Behave yourselves around our sweet, little grey-haired grandmothers or they will kick some manners into your ass just like they did ours. 14) So you think we're quaint or losers because most of us live on the prairie? That's because we have enough sense to not live in filthy, smelly, crime-infested cesspools like New York or LA. Make fun of our fresh air and we'll kick your ass. 15) Last, but not least, DO NOT DARE to come out here and tell us how the prairie should "go back to the buffalo." This will get your ass shot (right after it is kicked). Just mention this once and you will go home in a pine box. Minus your ass. Enjoy your visit in the Peace Garden State!

ESPN.com 10/18/2005 I'm sure those to the south will love this. BTW, to our southern neighbors...the national attention comment mentions nothing about the logo controversy...only football. (Thought I would head this argument off at the pass...)

From the GF Herald As a MSU football player, how do you respond when your coach makes comments like this? Nuts...why didn't they include the rest of the quote? That's a great statistic!!!

Greetings, I think it is human nature for fans to prepare for a worst case scenario and talk about a "letdown game". IMO, we already had a letdown game... UND 33 UMD 10 Even though the score was not close, the Sioux did not play particularly well and I think it served as a mental loss or at least a reminder that they are not infallible. UND will refocus for the final push. That being said... UND 41 MSU 06

You look taller on your avatar...? Good win this weekend...sounds like a fun atmosphere at Lubbers.

Holy Cow! I will be sure to remember this day...a Bison fan acknowledged that UND has a good team!!! Thanks for the comments...good luck this weekend against UC-Davis.

Updated Regional rankings: 10/17/2005 1 North Dakota (8-0) 2 Grand Valley State (7-0) 3 Saginaw Valley State (6-1) 4 St. Cloud State (7-1) 5 Minnesota Duluth (6-2) 6 Northwood (7-1) 7 South Dakota (7-1) 8 Nebraska-Omaha (5-2) 9 Winona State (6-2) 10 Central Washington (5-2) 11 Michigan Tech (5-2) 12 Ashland (6-2) UND remains on top... GVSU and SVSU switch positions... SCSU moves from 6 to 4... UMD remains at 5... USD moves down to 7 from 4... Northwood replaces UNO at 6... UMD definitely benefited from losing to a top-ranked team versus USD. UNO and USD need a win against UND to climb back into the top 6...thoughts?

Unless the reporters are UND fans...they must hate this assignment. "Hey, (insert reporters name here). I want you to go to Grand Forks on Saturday and cover the UND football game. Don't bother paying attention to the game as you only get a paragraph on page 8 for your write-up...in fact, the final score should suffice. Have a good time."

No good. As it is...when people from outside the region ask me where I went to school (UND)...it generally results in a comment about South Bend. USC will just confuse them by thinking I went to SoCal.

Personally, I like the second one better. Keep up the good work...

I don't care...I was just wondering when the Forum stopped including UND in their weekly predictions...maybe you know? Both papers are Pulitzer Prize winners...we may not agree with everything they say but overall I think both do a decent job of reporting "local" news. Pulitzer Prize - Herald 1998 Pulitzer Prize - Forum 1958 We are talking about newspapers...why are you so upset?

Greetings, For those who were not watching the game on FSSN...during a break they showed a UND fan wearing a "I am not hostile and abusive" t-shirt for about 10 seconds. Even Sweeney made some comments about it being a message to the NCAA...classic! Good win for the Sioux...I will sleep well tonight.
