  1. In the spirit of the last coaches show, maybe you can tell us what the coaches are saying about the recruits they have yet to sign!
  2. Yes, and with all that talent they still couldn't make the Frozen Four last year, which is what this thread is about, last year's FF teams.
  3. Second-year Corporations class - Randy Lee teaching - in the background for all to see on two tv's ----> a college hockey national tourney game. Of course it was the Gophers and Wolverines, but college hockey nevertheless. Now THAT was my kind of class taught by a wonderful and caring professor. PS - The Gophers lost if memory serves - how great is that?
  4. I saw him play last season and earlier this season in Fargo before again watching him this past Friday. Even from the start of this season, I thought his overall skating had greatly improved. He is a BIG kid, holds the blueline well and likes to shot the puck, at least he did on Friday.
  5. And they removed the Mazurak clip - FINALLY!!!
  6. I have no idea how many games UND will win from here on out, but I do think they have a legitmate shot at finishing fifth. They have two games in hand over Duluth with whom they are currently tied at 21 league points. Duluth finishes with league games at Denver and home against Wisconsin with Bemidji sandwiched in between. I think best case scenario for Duluth is winning two of four remaining league games and even that might be a stretch. Since I believe UND holds the tiebreaker with Duluth, if Duluth wins two that means UND would have to win just two of their last six with two games each against lower tier teams, Alaska and SCSU, and a home tilt with Wisco. Despite UND's lack of wins lately, I would think two wins is worst case scenario. I think UND has a shot at least four victories, but clearly a solid shot at hosting a home playoff series.
  7. I like and agree with a lot of what you said. I certainly haven't lost all faith, but my optimism is on the ropes and taking a beating, so to speak. I also hope your predictions regarding Denver and CC are correct, but with only six league games left, if there is not an immediate turnaround this season, the next time they play those two teams may be 2005-06.
  8. In all fairness, due to the number of seniors this season (and maybe a departure or two - God forbid) and because freshmen historically do not fare well in the WCHA, I personally expect next year to be a bit of a down year (not being a pessimist, more of realist) and feel that the true test of Hakstol's coaching abilities will come the season after next.
  9. I would like to think I am not a gloom and doom type of person, but painful is a very appropriate word to describe this season - a season that began with very high hopes and great expectations . . . .
  10. There has been plenty of anti-Greene sentiment on this board from several posters throughout this entire season especially as it relates to penalties. This weekend, MG played tremendous hockey. A bright spot in another disappointing weekend (results-wise anyway). He stayed out of the penalty box, made great decisions with the puck, played very strong defense and clearly was a leader on the ice. He deserves some props for his play and for avoiding the penalty box and I hope those that have bagged on him can step up and give credit where credit is due!
  11. I haven't seen this posted yet (source TSN). Nice comments from Bo's head coach. Collegiate grads making mark in AHL While the Calder Memorial Trophy gathers dust during the NHL lockout, hockey's best new pros are playing in the AHL this season and it's the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award that they're chasing. Brandon Bochenski, Rene Bourque, Thomas Vanek, Dennis Wideman, Zach Parise, Kevin Bieksa and Ryan Whitney are among outstanding rookie candidates. Most of them took the U.S. college route to the pros, including Bochenski who leads all AHL rookies with 38 points for the Binghamton Senators. It looks as if Ottawa's decision to take him in the 2001 entry draft, while other teams ignored the native of Blaine, Minn., is paying off. Bochenski was the 223rd player taken. The right-winger drew Ottawa's interest when he scored 47 goals in 55 games for a junior team in Nebraska. Only a handful of scouts saw much of him. Bochenski went on to achieve all-America college hockey status at North Dakota and, today, the 22-year-old is excelling in the pro game. He's six-foot-two and 195 pounds now, and he has scored 19 goals for Binghamton. "Brandon has been a real good player for us," says head coach Dave Cameron. "When he was signed, he was signed as an offensive player but the biggest surprise has been his play away from the puck. "He's been really consistent. He knows the game really well. A true indicator of the progression he's made is that he's not gone into prolonged slumps this season. I like the way he thinks out the game. He's smart. Hockey is a game of read and react, and he makes the right decisions." Parise, 20, the son of 1972 Summit Series player J.P. Parise, has 31 points including 10 goals for the Albany River Rats. The five-foot-11, 175-pound centre was New Jersey's first pick, 17th overall, in 2003. He was a teammate of Bochenski at North Dakota.
  12. If he wants to rehash national tournament history, or even McNaughton Cup history, I am sure there are many Sioux fans that will gladly help him/her with the numbers.
  13. You have to have a good sense of humor to be a Gopher fan, that is for sure!
  14. No need. No blood, no hospital ----> no card; that is simple math! (That was tongue-in-cheek for the sarcasm impaired) I was just glad she was okay!
  15. I attended the Moorhead/Roseau game last night (MHD won 7-0). VandeVelde had one assist and Lee had a goal and assist. Lee played a very solid game, in my opinion. He was strong on the puck, made some nice passes and skated well. The one thing I really noticed about him last night is the amount of poise he had with the puck. He certainly didn't appear to get rattled easily when the puck was on his stick no matter the number of opponents surrounding him. On another note, a young gal (high school age) got smoked in the head by a puck last night. She was sitting two rows up from the ice, near a faceoff dot in Moorhead's offensive zone. She was carried from the arena and had what can only be described as an enormous welt on her forehead. Thankfully, there was no blood and she did not need to be transported to the hospital, but it was a scary moment nonetheless.
  16. Although penalties haven't been a big problem for UND of late (except for recent spear ), UND will have to stay out of the penalty box this weekend if they want to have any success. Denver's power play is only ranked fifth in WCHA play, but of late it has been hot. Over the last three games it is clicking at 41%, which is outstanding.
  17. I was at the game and thought Lee played poorly and took a couple of stupid penalties.
  18. Like you said earlier, if you don't like the thread, don't click on it. You guys (with the exception of a some Gopher posters on this site) change your position on topics so fast you cannot even keep up with yourselves.
  19. I was wondering why you sound so bitter and then I remembered, your team got swept at home by the last place Huskies last weekend - now it makes sense!
  20. Some recent comments from the Buffalo Sabres organization compiled by hockeysfuture.com regarding Stafford:
  21. Alcohol inhibits your ability to use and employ judgment. Once judgment is diminished by the effects of alcohol, it is virtually impossible to engage in rational thought.
  22. I am not disagreeing with the money sentiment, but with regard to the county I mainly practice in, it is anything but speculation. I don't presume to know how things work in the airline industry nor do I know how they work in Warroad, but I do know that the attorney in this area that has been voted the best criminal defense attorney in this region charges a $3,000.00 retainer on DWI's and in the five years I have been in this county, he has yet to win a DWI case here - and he is a damn good lawyer. I have seen many a bigwig from the Cities, from Sioux Falls and other "bigger" areas around here come through the courthouse with their beamers, fancy suits, airs of confidence and leave with their tails between their legs and hanging their heads on DWI matters. I just hope, for MG's sake, the facts warrant a reduced or dimissed charge. Until then, we might as well take a deep breath because it could take a while for this to play out. . . . .
