    Sioux/Bison

The article in the Star Tribune is about as funny an article as you can read. It really shows what UND is made of and also shows how their star running back views the team: "Minnesotans just come up here and show what we've got," said Riza Mahmoud, who played at Champlin Park. The freshman rushed for 103 yards on 24 carries as North Dakota won the 109th renewal of the nation's most-played Division II rivalry. Politely, Mahmoud added, "Yeah, there are players from North Dakota and South Dakota on our team, too." Nice of him to acknowledge your roots. Real team player! hahahahaha You actually get the feeling that he thinks the teams looked good!

    The Golden Arm #4

The Golden Arm Award, Week 4: As anxious fans across the country are aware no QB has received this Prestigious award more times than NDSU
  3. Its their culture, not yours.
  4. You ask what percentage of the population that comprises the culture must be offended? Apparently 19% nationally isn't enough? Are you telling me that an 81% majority gives you the "right" to exploit a regional culture that has expressed its own displeasure independent of the SI poll?
  5. There aent that many schools left in D2 that have D1 potential. Most have already moved. I agree with the statement that there is going to be far more movement from D1 to D1AA than from D2 to D1AA.
  6. Does that poll give UND the right to exploit a culture that has objected? The original post pointed out how subtle and pervasive this racist attitude is at UND. The original point has since been reinforced by two regionally (nationally?) broadcast radio reports. The comments that somehow you have a right to exploit cultures and human dignity because SI had some kind of poll don't offer much rebuttal. In fact, those comments tend to reinforce the negative and distasteful image now shrouding UND by insisting it has the right to exploit native american culture because a majority of native americans do not object. It remains a tragic situation and an embarrassment to UND, its constituents and the people of North Dakota that pay taxes to fund it.
  7. the story was focused on UND and its history or racism with the logo and exploitation of native culture at the center of the controversy. It was uncomplimentary and unfortunately degrades not only UND and its constituents but all of North Dakota. Bridges is entirely correct. No human logos should be used as sports mascots. I just had to sit through another story concerning their protest. Again it was an embarrassment to UND and its constituents and North Dakota as a whole. Your response was very thoughtful and a far cry from the usual denial that almost always attempts to mock the dissenting opinion. No caps are coming your way until respect is earned on the issue of human rights. At this point I do not believe yours is a proper name. you bring disgrace upon the State of North Dakota. I especially take offense at the common reply of many UND constituents when they will post a banner, produced by others, that shows the native culture in some degrading way. These people are quick to jump on that but refuse to realize that it is their own original disregard for cultural integrity that opens the door to these types of things. After all, if your not going to recognize the violation of human dignity why should others? After all its only an abstract reference. Just insisting its ok does not make it so. running down others that feel your cultural exploitation is dishonorable is a common, and distasteful tactic, typical of denial. At least UND should be paying cash royalties to the culture it has decided to exploit for profit
  8. Good one diggler. The Golden Arm Award is not a most valuable player trophy. Passing statistics are the prime criteria, rushing is only secondary, especially when you dislocate your shoulder and possibly end your season. Not a smart choice, but what could he do? With no receivers open and no worthy running backs to go to Klosterman was forced to run most of the afternoon. Too bad for his career and Harlon Hill Hopes, as well as the Harlon Hill hopes that shoutin ed schultz and UND sports information held out for him. The Harlon Hill Buzz is dead and that buzz was only in the head of his fans and promoters.
  9. Not much comment on this here, is there?
  10. Goon, After reading your comments I too think your nick is appropriate. Just 2 days after my post I was very disappointed to hear, on the liberal NPR, a story about racism on the UND campus. It was not very flattering to your institution and to North Dakotans as a whole. My post was timely and justified. Your response, and those of our peers, smack of denial.
  11. Certainly jimdahl, your going to have to admit, its a little early in the season to start that isn't it? Your 1-1 has no more legs as far as a conference title or national championship are concerned than the BISON 0-2. I would also like to remind "diggler" that its illegal to steal (check it out at the law library) but stealings not nearly as offensive as his tie.

    The Golden Arm Award

As long as Gorder continues to out perform Klosterman he will win. This award is based on individual performance and is only awarded during the weeks both QBs play. You may be unhappy with the outcome of the award, but Klostermans performance has not earned him the distinction of a Golden Arm in the 2002 season. you are welcome to review and comment on the record. Officals at the Golden Arm have no comment as to the affect this award will have on either QBs Harlon Hill opportunities. Right now, there is a controversy surrounding the decision by the Golden Arm to allow the UND substitute to compete. So many fans were looking forward to the individual competition that it seems unfair to deny them. The Golden Arm is going to allow your substitute fellow to compete this week only. He will be referred to as the 'Klosterman Proxy". It is the ruling of the Golden Arm that in subsequent weeks no award will be forthcoming unless the Perennial Harlon Hill Candidate, Kelby Klosterman, is in the game. The intent of the award was to pit Gorder against Klosterman. Let the best man continue to win.
  13. Im really disappointed in the kind of talk Im hearing. It lacks sportsmanship and fact. Craig Gorder is the better QB right now. Look at the conference stats. Kelby "I am too a Harlon Hill Candidate" Klosterman is truly an embarrassment. He was going to lead the great sue sox to a second national title. That's really doubtful now. What about the rumor that Klostermans injury is minor but being expanded to allow for a substitute in an effort to avoid a QB controversy in the "grand cities". It might be unbecoming for Dale "i got a modern haircut just like the college kids" Lennon to have a QB problem, especially since UND, the grand forks herald and "shoutin" ed schultz started the big Harlon Hill buzz for your champion.

    The Golden Arm Award

Silent because Im preoccupied with BISON football problems. but this is the Golden Arm thread and Gorder is now a "3-pete" champion. Kolsterman must be the biggest disappointment in UND history. he hasn't had a good day since Mesa State. His game against SDSU was average at best, but you won. that's good for you, but the Harlon Hill Buzz swirling around Klosterman is now silent. The injury will certainly put it to rest, if it hadnt been dead since the Great Dale Lennon benched him against the Mighty Eagles of Crookston State. In defiance of all the sue sox smugness of conceit, Gorder has stepped up as the best QB this year, at least so far, and the sue sox and BISON have slipped to mediocrity. Next weekend in the Fabulious Fargo Dome you'll come onto the field. I have every confidence that the BISON will win. I have learned, directly from the offices of the Golden Arm, that your substitute QB will be allowed to compete. Is a

    Big Sky Talk

USD is expected to announce this morning their intention to stay in D2. The best scenario is for SDSU and NDSU to move up. That will give them the regional recruiting territory each team needs to be competitive. NDSU officials were very positive about the welcome we would receive in D1. The msg from grand forks is, of course, very different and lacks a grounding in reality. Wanless's words last night were completely different than reported by the herald. Nobody was talking Wanless down when they thought he was saying what they wanted to hear, but look at the remarks about him now that they have heard the truth from the man himself! You have to be careful about who you listen to. that type of duplicity surrounding this issue is rampant in grand forks. There is the big lie about not playing a D1AA NDSU while at the same time advertising on the AFCA site for D1AA football opponents. The deception in cost comparisons by using Michigan or the Gophers. The din about no opportunity for regional athletes. The talk about no conference affiliation. The insuation (or should I say hope) that NDSU coaches except Babich were against the move. All of this is propaganda. Im not sure why it is spouted in such a huge quantity, maybe to make themselves feel better, but it really has no affect on what NDSU will actually do. The negative psychology created by this flow of misinformation is already accounted for in the decisions NDSU is making. They understand there will be attempts to preserve the status quo and I believe were fully aware that the UND/grand forks coalition would mount a strong public campaign to try and block it. It's present in almost every decision NDSU makes, and has been for many many years.

It clear UND is greedily grabbing for all it can get. Do you think the Sioux Nation is entitled to a cut?

    The Golden Arm Award

We will wait until the sue soxers come into the Fabulous Fargo Dome. Your speculation speaks of idiocy. A couple of weeks makes a lot of difference. As far as hlastrom goes, he should be a little more worried about the Harlon Hill favorite Kelby Klosterman, not the 2 time Golden Arm Winner Craig Gorder. Kolsterman has been terrible against quality opponents this year. I guess he did ok against the tomato cans though. I wouldnt be feeling too confident if I were you.

Gorders problem: 11 dropped passes. UNCs problem: they come to the Prestigious Fargo Dome.

    The Golden Arm Award

Davis will be at the Fabulous Fargo Dome next year. It will take 5 years to get the roster complete for football. The first years D1AA recruits will probably be redshirted and by the end of the 5th season Seniors through Redshirts will all be D1AA recruits. By the 6th or 7th year, as you say, NDSU should be back on its game. Portland State had a similar time line and were among the top in the BSC within the 5 year period. The most important thing is getting the clock ticking. With UNO and your team struggling the conference title is still in our sights. Our home schedule looks good. Your in a bit of a hole with some big games on the road and a defense that really hasnt been able to adjust to the new style of passing attacks that seem to be emerging. Augi is in the Prestigious Fargo Dome next week. They are a team that has been very effective in upsetting stronger NCC teams. The last game at Memorial Stadium always comes to mind. I dont think anyone in Fargo is going to be taking them lightly. With the loss of Degraff Augi is struggling a bit. The offense has not caught fire with the Freshman QB. They showed defensive strength in the 7-0 win against Mankato. Their defense is stout and will be a test for Gorder and the BISON. Augi did a good job shutting out the Mavericks keeping that freshman running back under wraps and stopping what is by all accounts a dangerous passing attack. The Golden Arm may not be of so much interest if Ed Schultz hadnt been so relentless on the air running down the BISON and NDSU and hounding Gorder about his Golden Arm. Now that Klosterman is showing that last season might be turning out to be an exception to his great leadership, rather than the rule, I dont hear much on his radio shows about this. Klosterman has had 1 good day against an inferior opponent and a good 10 minutes against another vastly inferior team. In his two tests against competitive opponents its pretty clear that he has been unable to answer any questions for your team. Since your team is idle there will be no Golden Arm awarded next week.

  24. By personalizing the issue dont you avoid it? The point is valid. You have lashed out. That is adolescent.
  25. PS - If FargoDome is so 'prestigious', why is the lighting so terrible? The endzones are dark and the lights are at angles such that they shine in your eyes if you are sitting in box seating. Is Fargo going to 'progressively' fix that any time soon? I'm not trying to be malicious here. I do believe lighting there is a problem.... the learned one (sorry couldnt remember how to spell your name) I think you'll find that when watching the game from that level you should be wearing a hat. Make sure the brim is facing forward. I do and its great. The lighting on the field is perfect. The Winona players felt the Fabulous Fargo Dome was the better football venue. Of course there were twice as many fans at the Prestigious Fargo Dome too. Fortunately we dont have to have Roger Thomas wearing a green wig sitting with "the kids" in front of the boxes so he can show them how to have a "good time" without standing up and blocking the view of the "most important customers." Ps. the 75 mile radius gets into the Fargo Metropolitan Statistical area, a population center of 150,000 or more. More proof that Grand Forks cant get by without Fargo.
