UND has known for a couple of weeks now that its only route to the NCAA tournament is by winning the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff. The league flopped in nonconference play this season, putting its members in poor position in the Pairwise Rankings.
That is true, but the reason UND is in a bad spot in the Pairwise is because UND lost crucial non-conference games. (See Bemidji, Cornell, and OT win against Robert Morris) If you take care of your own games, then you don't need to worry about how the rest of the NCHC played out of conference. The conference didn't put the Sioux into this situation; their own inconsistent play did.
