Absolutely horrendous news about Lisa Marvin and the extent of her injuries. We are praying for her and her family for a full and complete recovery. It sounds like they will need all of the support they can get. On the flip side, I hope the two individuals involved with their vehicles in this incident receive the appropriate punishment and learn their actions can have horrible consequences. This is nothing but brash stupidity that will likely impact Lisa for the rest of her life. This is a good idea. A few years ago MafiaMan coordinated an effort to have SiouxSports.com posters sponsor a mite hockey team for a couple of years in one of the Twin Cities suburbs. We had some fun with that. It created quite a stir when the team hit the ice with SiouxSports.com jerseys. Evidently some thought UND was the sponsor and reportedly the Gopher Athletics department received a few phone calls about why the Gophers weren't sponsoring local hockey teams. This is obviously on a much grander scale and could be a very good effort. Please run this past Jim Dahl for his blessing and then run with it full blast if given the okay.

Friday nights game was a wakeup call for Poolman. He clearly was not ready for that much speed. His misplay led directly to the 2 on 1 on which Miami scored early in the game. Hakstal stated that the team needed some aspects of Mattson's playmaking ability on the offensive side against Miami. To be fair, Poolman was not the only young defenseman that had some issues on Friday night. Thompson and LaDue both had their not so great moments. Miami just brought a whole different game than they were used to seeing.

I would think that someone named "MafiaMan" would want to keep a pretty low profile about the 1998 fiasco. Talk about jinxing the team.

My observations are that Miami suffers from the same issues as a year ago. They are strong with top end forwards, but weak on the defensive and goaltending positions. The key for UND is to cut off the playmaking capability of their forwards. This means staying out of the penalty box. UND's defense needs to use their mobility to pressure Miami and create frustration for them. I see great potential for a split, but I am also optimistic that a UND sweep is possible.

Yes, it is early in a long season and things change quickly, but the current PWR leader is.......................Michigan Tech Four of the top nine teams are from the NCHC. And the second highest Big 10 team is Penn St. at No. 17. Boy this is fun.

That is, assuming it is in October/November. They get an incredible amount of snow in the winter. We drove up into the peninsula on Saturday during our trip to Houghton. There is a measuring stick along the highway that shows the minimum amount, average amount, and maximum amount of snowfall they receive over the winter. The minimum was like 160" and the maximum was somewhere around 250". Be there at the wrong time and you might be there for a while. They even had a sign behind the motel desk that showed how much snow they had received so far that winter. We did have a great trip there as well (it was in October).
