The main reason they bring them up and put them in the minors is because the talent level in the minors is much closer to NHL talent then college hockey is to NHL talent. It gets players prepared for the speed of the game. Most players need at least a year in the AHL, so it's not like it's a rare occurence. They also practice every day probably a couple times. There are generally better coaches at that level as well, although that's not the case with UND.

No way will any of the freshmen leave, I don't have evidence but I guarantee it. None of them are ready. It is very very tough to make an NHL team the year you're drafted. The only ones I'm worried about leaving are Stafford, Smaby, and Parise. I'm hoping they all stay but we know that won't happen, and I'm also hoping that Zajac stays one more year to play with his bro.

I'll try to answer: 1) Minnesota gets favored and gets the early game because they're the #1 seed, so they get more time to rest. 2) Fox sports will have the Sioux game live on friday, and the gopher game tape delayed early saturday morning 3) Wasn't there so I can't comment 4) Yes the fans do make a big difference, and I think the team gets an extra boost of adrenaline when theres a nice play and the roar of the fans is heard

I don't see any reason UND would overlook this game. It's Michigan for god-sakes. One of the most storied traditions in college hockey. Come playoff time everyone knows they're never a slouch. Just because some posters on the message boards are overlooking Michigan doesn't mean the hockey team is overlooking them. They know it is one-and-done from here on out and they know they have to be ready for this Michigan game.

IMO he was dead tired against the Sioux. He was 1st team all-WCHA so he obviously has the talent. He was basically the reason the the Huskies got by Denver. He was also the reason they took 6th in the regular season, instead of 9th or 10th. He transferred to SCSU from Providence and this is his first year with the team.

Duncan is showing that he will be an AWESOME 4 year player with the Sioux, and Toews in the past month or two is stating his case for the upcoming draft. They are really blossoming. Oshie has been just awesome all year. I really think Zach Jones has done a great job this year, as well as Finley. And I feel that our unsung heroes will step up in the NCAA's(Watkins and Kozek) and start producing, I just have the feeling.

No offense to TDon as I think he is a very good coach, but he is definetely sending the wrong message. You have to get it through your players heads that every time they pull a jersey over their head representing their team, they need to play for their team and for pride. Sure not every night will go your way, I completely understand that. But to say comments like "we came here to win a trophy and lost that opportunity last night" is basically saying that today's game was irrelevant(which in theory it probably was.) But come on now, you don't have 82 games to play, and can't afford to have two off nights in a row(especially around tournament time). Today the Gophers showed no heart. I think that was an embarassing performance by them, as we all know they are better then that. No effort today, and then expect to get a huge effort next week at the regionals is a tall order, and I guess we'll see if they're up to it.

Woog sounded irritated at that comment and came back with "Yes but you should have the pride to WANT to win every game you step on the ice." That was nice to hear. And it is very true.

Honestly it is so fun to watch all this talent come together in the past month. I love seeing my FIGHTING SIOUX make a run like this almost every year. Obviously Hak knows what he's doing and how to get this team ready when it counts. Would be great to win the Broadmoor tonight and get some momentum going into regionals. In my mind this is easily the best freshman class in the country: It seems like our freshman carry this team pointwise about 75% of the games. They have really come through when it mattered. I love seeing Duncan take that wrister. He has such a nice shot, and yes he has shot over the net a few times this year, but I will take 50 shots over the net if he can come up with goals that huge and that pretty. Kaip had a breakout game yesterday. One of the best players on the ice yesterday defensively I thought. And how great it was to finally see him score(2 goals!!!). Chorney had a fantastic game last night, as did Finley. Toews played his usual very solid and reliable self. Oshie was one of the best players on the ice every shift last night, his work ethic is the best I have ever seen at any level. Watkins and Kozek worked very hard all day yesterday, and Watkins had a beauty of an assist. It was nice to hear Woog say that when he talked to Oshie, TJ said that Watkins is probably the unsung hero of the team because he works so hard, he just has been snakebitten. Prpich had a nice game yesterday. Lee played fairly well. Zajac had a very good game I thought. Spirko also. What a game this should be tonight. We need JPar to carry us. Goaltending is essential at this part of the season(as Minny found out last night....what the heck was going on?). Good luck to all teams today, and I hope to see a good 3rd place game also. GO SIOUX!!!

Ok now that that is over, does anybody else really really dislike Earl. He is the biggest pansy I remember seeing play in a long time. He leaves the ice limping, dives, and then tries to mouth off to Smaby when he knows Smaby wouldn't fight him.

Haha on an ironic note in the "GWG" department, Mike Commodore(YES Mike Commodore) picked up the game winner on his 2nd goal of the season tonight. Carolina won 5-3(ENG) and Commodore had the 4th goal.

I'm not sure why, but in all the european leagues, it is very tough to score points. I believe even some big time NHL'ers who played over in europe leagues during the lockout(such as kovalchuk) only averaged barely a point per game(if not less). One of the people who is said to be about on par with Toews for the upcoming draft(I believe his name is Michael Frolik) only has something like 2 goals this season in a Europe league.

I thought Brad Miller looked very promising tonight. He has some very good wheels, as we saw on that breakaway he got hauled down on. He just looks like he could beef up a little but he has skills.

Just for the record I am not a Kessel fan at all, in fact, I don't like him, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he has played very well this year, as has Oshie and Toews. I would really take any of them. As for the award you gave me, I thank you and will do my best to repeat as champion a year from now.

Weird that you say it is an opinion when in post 168 you say something like "I'm sorry you folks are having such a hard time accepting the fact that phil IS NOT the most outstanding freshmen this year but it is the simple truth". So then you said it was a fact, now it is an opinion? That is why we all don't understand where you're coming from. You should try to make it known that it is your opinion, not what everyone should believe. And don't get so upset with people who disagree with you. I'm sorry but you are starting to look dumb and childish on this site saying stuff like "don't tell me what to do" and getting very upset with people who disagree with you. And trust me, I am giving Oshie full consideration, but to me, Kessel is just as deserving as he has put up a very good season over at Minny.
