  1. I appreciate having Tim & Swyg to listen to. They are the only guys who ever regularily talk Sioux Athletics on the radio in this region, even though it is usually only for about 10 minutes every week. Unless Swyg mows his lawn that week. Then the Sioux talk is cut down to five minutes that week. When UND hired their first new men's basketball coach in nearly two decades, they did take the time to interview him.........10 days or so after he was hired. When UND announced they were going DI, they broke the story by interviewing Tom Buning.......4 or 5 days later. I understand that when they work in a small market like GF and real job is the play-by-play gig that they shy away from posing challenging questions or criticism of coaches when they work so closely with Hakstol, Roebuk, Glas (now Jones), even Lennon. But it would be nice if they would do a half-hours work of homework the day before their show in order to at least have an intelligent discussion during their show about Sioux athletics rather than an hour and half devoted to reading the GF Herald on the air, and another hour and half devoted to Swygman's latest yard project. For those that don't know, Swyg bags his grass, while Tim does not. With Forum Communications now owning the Herald, I wonder if Clear Channel will ban them from referencing the Herald in the future. This could mean more time devoted to Tim's lawn-care strategies. I will continue to faithfully tune in every morning. I think tomorrow is the day for UND's 10 minute alottment.
  2. It also says that Freund enters the season third on the depht chart at QB and more importantly that Brandon Strouth is entering his first season as starting tailback.
  3. And I don't think there was one visiting Fargo in October of 2002 either, a whole month after NDSU announced there intention to go DI. Which is where UND is at in this process. And I wish the Bison good luck in getting into the Mid-Con as well. It's step in the right direction for UND's future as well by adding stability to the GWFC, and bringing the footprint of the Mid-Con into the Dakotas.
  4. The presidents of the Big Sky schools added PSU, Sac St., UNC, and Northridge, not Fullerton. He has little power in regards to expansion.
  5. That's funny, I know funny, and that was funny!
  6. Here is in article from the Omaha World Herald. UNO's A.D. has been negotiating with the MIAA. Tom Shatel: UNO A.D. working on finding a new league Not good news for the NCC. UNO actively pursuing membership in another DII league, even before USD announces what its intentions are makes the NCC basically a ticking time-bomb. This could also help USD make up their minds and leave for DI, or maybe a slim chance of them also trying for MIAA? Not surprisingly, with all of their other current problems, it doesn't sound like UNO will be joining us in the move to DI anytime soon.
  7. I really hope that the word "Subdivision" isn't actually going to be part of the official new names. That would be really lame.
  8. Only one more trip?
  9. I agree. There are a number of concerns in every universities athletic dept. I'll give you that. I don't think Kupchella supports athletics in general very much. Also a concern at virtually every university in the country, especially when making a DII to DI transition. I'm confident that when NDSU moved, there were people wondering about how it would be financed. The task force was a fact-finding commission. It did not make a recommendation one way or the other. It did say that UND more closely resembles DI schools as opposed to DII schools. It also said UND should find a conference. What did the Carr report say again? Presidents come and go. NDSU's president was recently sending his resume to Wyoming was he not? ?
  10. I am intrigued. If anything, it may help a few people show up for a soccer game or two. The article also said that the UND soccer team will be playing at Creighton in 2008.
  11. I always laugh when a Bison fans argue that by not declaring 2006 the exploratory year that Kupchella is obviously creating an exit strategy. What's the big deal about taking two years to plan things out the right way. Were you all so up-in-arms when President Chapman also left NDSU a two year window from the time NDSU announced their intention to go DI to the time they actually joined DI?
  12. 12-2........Close losses to UNI and UNO. Victory in Florence.
  13. I hope the Koenig is ready to play, and be a presence on the inside this season. This squad needs an effective big man. I read over the USD board that they got a transfer from Creighton.......a 6-11 center. The Sioux were pounded on the inside and out-rebounded last year by every team that had any sort of inside presence. http://coyotesports.proboards100.com/index...9992&page=1
  14. I think it is interesting that everyone seems to say that USD is in no position to make this move because their athletic budget is only around $4 million. But apparently that is about where SDSU was at when they jumped up.
  15. We're talking about the Gophers here. Gopher football no less. I don't expect the Bison to keep the final score within 17 to 20 points, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did.
  16. I'd expect Dale to use Freund as the 4th quarter mop-up QB. Got to get his feet wet, he should have an outstanding chance at taking over the offense next season as a junior. Anybody know anything about Brandon Strouth's recovery? We need him at full strength. He is alot quicker and shiftier than Beatty, and a better receiver out of the backfield. We'll need his speed against Northern Iowa to have chance, as I expect that to be the fastest defense that the Sioux will see all year. I hope that Ryan Chappell lines up next to Dressler on kickoff returns. Kickers don't like to kick to Dressler, but they may not think Chappell is a much better alternative. I think the biggest question mark on offense is the wide receiver position. Losing Grossman was huge. I'd expect Loegering to start opposite Dressler. Hopefully some of the young kids can contribute especially the ones with size like Caufield, Hegg, and Wahlin. We were far too small at the WR position last year. Fast, but small. Any body heard anything for certain about ZBJ? I heard he was gone, then that he was coming back. He would be a huge asset to a defense that graduated several key members.
  17. I don't think that there is any question that 98% of all fans from either school would prefer the Big Sky over the Mid-Con. But I think star2city is a little hard on the Mid-Con. Sure, there are more name-recognizable schools in the Sky i.e. Montana, Montana St., & Idaho St. But if NDSU & SDSU are admitted (and possibly USD down the road) then the Mid-Con offers far better travel and natural rivalries than does the Big Sky. MplsBison offers a valid point that the Mid-Con/GWFC is a conference that the four big Dakota schools could become the anchor for in the future. Again, I prefer the Big Sky, but I wouldn't blink twice or be the least bit disappointed about joining a Mid-Con conference that included two schools that were in very close driving distance of UND.
  18. I'm a farmer, so I usually end up missing one or two home games each year (with only 5 home games this year, I hope to keep it to one at the most ). I've never made a road trip but my wife and I have decided to try and make a point of going to at least one away game each year from here on out. This year we're planning on St. Cloud St. because it falls so late in the year so it should work out. I'd love to go to the UNI game, but it is just too early in the season, and I think we'll be too busy.
  19. It was a fact finding report that gave no recommendations. President Kupchella made the decision upon reading it. I read that report, and I didn't see the page where the results said: "UND should remain in Division II". You must have gotten a different copy.
  20. According to Jeff Kolpack: Free advice for Dale My favorite part of this is how he compares UND's Title IX situation to SDSU's. He thinks because we both use the "equity dollar" route, that UND will be as slow to add schollies as SDSU has been. Apparently he is unaware that the South Dakota Board of Regents requires South Dakota universities to meet all three of the criteria for Title IX compliance, as opposed to the one out of three methods as mandated by Federal Law. He also apparently missed the other article in the Herald that specifically said that UND will offer 57 football scholarships in 2008.
  21. What? Then football will suck up most of the money at NDSU. NDSU has a smaller basketball budget than Division II UND, but will be near the top of the Mid-Con while UND will be below the average Mid-Con school?
  22. NDSU Total Basketball Expenditures: $1,184,705 NDSU Total Basketball Revenues: $744,602 ----------------------------------------------------------- UND Total Basketball Expenditures: $1,337,081 UND Total Basketball Revenues: $1,230,619 Office of Postsecondary Education
  23. I've never really understood the status quo/bullet point philosophy of Bison Fans thinking that UND doesn't care about basketball. Historically UND men's basketball has had far more success than any other collegiate program in the state. Our women have won three national championships. Up until the last few years (the men's program has been going downhill in recent years, hopefully that will start to turn around this year) UND basketball has traditionally drawn more fans than any other collegiate program in the state, while not even playing in the largest metro area in ND. UND has had more NBA draft-picks than any other collegiate program in the state, and former UND coaches have gone on to become head coaches in the NBA. And the UND basketball teams now play in the nicest facilities that any collegiate program in ND can offer. All that, and we don't really care about basketball?
  24. Good article from todays GF Herald that talks about UND's plans for adding schollies. Good news for the football team, they plan on adding 21 right out of the gate, so that they can average 57 for the next two years and cash in on a DI-A payday game. 14 more for women's sports from the start. Men's basketball the next priority. TRANSITION TO DIVISION I ATHLETICS: A battle of the sexes
