    TV Today

Steve Hallstrom makes Pat Sweeney sound like Al Michaels.
  2. This little anecdote kind of fits in this thread........ Regarding those fans from both schools who say that we would all be better off if UND and NDSU never did renew the rivalry, I just thought I'd share something I thought was interesting from a conversation I had today. There were two guys sitting next to me at the UND-Winona game. One of them asked me the quickest way to get out of GF after the game. He said they were heading to Fargo immediately after the Sioux game to watch NDSU. Like a smartass, I said well what the hell would you want to waste your money on something like that for? He said they had drove to GF from Dickinson this morning for the UND game, then heading to Fargo for the NDSU game, then heading back for Dickinson. I asked if either of them had any ties to either university or to this area, and they said no, they were just huge football fans and wanted to make a day of it when they were both playing home games. They said they were excited that UND is going DI so that the Sioux-Bison games can start back up again as they always looked forward to making the trip for that game. These guys were great fans, hooting and hollering along with me every time the Sioux had a score, big play, big hit or whatever. And I assume they were cheering for NDSU at the game tonight as well. I think it is a great example of residents of North Dakota feeling pride and a perhaps a sense of ownership in both of their state's largest public universities. The rivalry was and will be good for North Dakota and North Dakotans in general and they deserve it. It is for everybody, not just fans or graduates of UND or NDSU.
  3. I noticed today that the Alerus is using the electronic scanners to scan game tickets like the do at the Ralph. In the past they just tore off the stubs. I'd guess this is more accurate.
  4. I was a little surprised by that figure. It didn't look like that all of the people watching from the concourses above the endzones would have fit in the few empty seats that were left in the 4 corner sections of the arena.
  5. Attendance was 10,333. Can't really find to many flaws in today's performance. The offense was stellar, the defense was stellar. I would prefer that with guys like Strouth and Chappell in the backfield that our QB would not be our leading rusher. I have little to no confidence in Hellevang. His first PAT went in but it was a duck. All but two of his kickoffs were rather short. He missed his one field goal attempt. And apparently the staff doesn't have alot of confidence in him either to fake the one field goal when we already had pretty good lead. My biggest concern of the day is that there is no Little Ceasar's Pizza at the Al anymore. They were apparently replaced with the frozen microwavable single mini pizzas by Red Baron. Oh yeah, and they were out of nachos.
  6. The NCC probably would prefer to pluck the top teams from the NSIC at will, but beggers can't be choosers.
  7. I agree. And no, I'm not from GF.
  8. Unfortunately, from a UND fan's perspective, the Gateway is a viable option for NDSU. However, I don't think that the Gateway will expand until about three years after WKU leaves (which they may or may not do). In my view, it is possible that the GWFC could have an autobid before the Gateway seriously considers expansion.
  9. This is why I like Tom Buning. Link So I take that to mean that we can expect to see UNI on the schedule again sometime between 2008 and 2010 with maybe one of the games in the Alerus. I think that is great foresight. With his ties to Army, I think it would be great to have Army come to GF for a hockey game! I know Army ain't really a hockey power, but hey, it is Army! And I heard that the reason we got the basketball game against Purdue was because of Herbst's contacts but we got Indiana on the same trip because of Buning. From what I have seen in the last year, Mr. Buning is a much better administrator than Roger Thomas was. Don't get me wrong, I love RT, he did some wonderful things as coach for UND football and is the guy that turned this program around. He tutored Dale Lennon who brought us the National Championship. But his administrative policies also locked us into games with programs like UM-Crookston and Mesa St., which Buning got us out of this year and replaced with Northern Iowa. He has also been less than flattering with his comments about UND football's future home, I-AA. Buning comes off on TV as sort of a politician type person with his constant big smile (the guy has great teeth, you have to admit). But that is probably what UND needs right now. I also think that it helps that he is a newcomer. In his first year on the job he already got in touch with Gene Taylor about renewing the UND-NDSU football rivalry (Taylor declined) . If RT were still at the helm that would not have happened. In short, after a year and 3 months as athletic director, I approve of Tom Buning.
  10. I agree! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what Rich Glas did for this program, but after 18 years at the helm I am looking forward to see a new style of play implemented by Coach Jones. I'm also looking forward to watching some players with some size get out on the court, not just tall players (like Lindahl and Rypkema) but some guys with some meat on their bones.
  11. That's a 14 team leauge. That's 14 schools agreeing to fight for one autobid rather than the two autobids those 14 particular teams fight for now. It would be in the best interests for the NCC and NSIC to work something out in the way of dual expansion/swapping programs in order to maintain the two autobids in this region. Winona has been offered membership in the NCC in the past and declined. Perhaps they can now be convinced that with UND, USD, and UNO leaving (if that is the case) that they can be the premeire player in the new NCC. With the NCC now desperate for members, Minot St. could rethink their decision to stay in NAIA. Perhaps a new NCC member there? Then there is the University of Sioux Falls of the GPAC. Maybe an opening in the NCC with the lure of a cross-town rivalry with another private school in Augustana would entice them to make the move to DII. Northern St. would certainly like to be one of three South Dakota schools battling it out in this conference, the "New NCC". Finally, to offset the loss of two members, the NSIC adds St. Thomas (another reported past target of the NCC which declined). NCC: SCSU, Auggie, Mankato, UM-Duluth, Winona, Northern St., Minot St., U of Sioux Falls NSIC: Concordia-SP, Bemidji St., SW Mn St., Wayne St., Mary, Crookston, Moorhead, Upper Iowa, St. Thomas I know, I know, it is alot of speculation.......but that is what message boards are for! I'm just glad that UND isn't going to be a part of it.
  12. O.K. I'm a bit of a techno-junkie (or geek as my wife like to say ) but I want all Sioux fans to be able to enjoy Fighting Sioux Athletics where ever they are! The following is a link to establishments around the U.S. that hold U of Montana vs. Montana St. satellite parties for football and basketball games. The reason this site is important to us (Fighting Sioux Fans) is because the Montana schools broadcast their games the same way that UND does hockey, football, and basketball on the Fighting Sioux Sports Network. These establishments likely have the equipment required to get the FSSN. Here is the link to the establishments: Satellite Locations/Montana Alumni Here are the coordinates for the FSSN: Intelsat Americas 8 at 89 deg W K17 slot B - 9MHz Ku band download frequency 12044.5 V L band download frequency 1294.5V symbol rate 4.88 FEC 3/4 PMT 480 Video 481 Audio 484 (primary L &R) The important part of that mumbo jumbo is: Satellite: IA-8 89 deg W Down Freq: 12044 Symbol Rate: 4880 Polarity: Vertical (V) If you find a sports bar with Free-To-Air satellite, give them that info and they can get the game. Here are the games available this year on the FSSN: FSSN Schedule UND, in the small market of Grand Forks, is lucky to receive the TV coverage that we do and Sioux fans should take advantage of it. If you live in an area near one of these establishments, jot down the info I put in bold and take it to them if you're interested in watching the Sioux, and chances are they can get it for you. That is why they invested in the equipment.
  13. Oh yeah, and the picture in my sig line!
  14. He shut it down because the post was obvious smack. Smack is not allowed on SiouxSports.com, however it is encouraged at Bisonville.com.
  15. The only poll I pay any attention to is the AFCA coaches poll. Coaches know more about football teams than writers. That said, the only poll that really matters is the Northwest Regional Poll, when does that start coming out?
  16. Ryan Chappell is the NCC co-offensive player of the week. Link
  17. Northern Iowa dropped nine spots in the AGS Poll to #12 AGS Poll
  18. I had emailed Pat Sweeney about a month ago to ask about the TV schedule and specifically the UNI game. He replied and said that they looked into it but UNI wanted a rights fee "in the very high 5 figures". He did say that any other local station can televise any Sioux games that WDAZ declines to pick up, so perhaps we should remember that in the future.
  19. As a very passionate fan of the University of North Dakota, I think that Glen Mason is the perfect coach for the Gophers.
