  1. South Dakota is leading SUU 14-3 with 13 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Listen here.
  2. Let's play them for the Nickel! Seriously, they should reintroduce a trophy. We played for one for almost 50 years. There was a thread on the USD Board about this a while back, and a USD poster offerd up the idea of the "First Dakota Trophy", because there has also been somewhat of a controversy as to which state was admitted to the Union first. That sounded like a good idea. The schools need to market this rivalry better through this transition. I give alot of credit to NDSU and SDSU for the way they've built up their games. Those two schools barely acknowledged each other for the first 100 years that they played in any sport.
  3. Anyone know exactly how far behind in his rehab Lenhertz is? I would have thought that without him, we would have seen a little bit of Mathison on the floor, since he is the only other "big" on the team besides Benter. Mertens had a rough game offensively last night. Hopefully he puts it behind him quickly, he will certainly be needed on the offensive side of the ball in order for the team to have a successful season. He played extremely well defensively last night.
  4. I watched the game on TV and it really was a tale of two halves. The Sioux were especially horrid in the 2nd half. They tried their hardest to give that game to UMKC. I know it was the first game of the season, but turnovers have really been a problem in the Jones era. I was very impressed with the play of Harkins, and Mitchell looks to be a very promising player. This was the first time I've seen Mertens play, after hearing alot about him, he is definately athletic, that is for sure. UND needs to improve on their free throw shooting, it was horrendous last night. Also, I don't think I've ever in my life seen so many offensive fouls called in one game. Both teams incurred alot of them, but UND especially. It was an ugly game, but entertaining to watch, and a great win to start off the season and the DI transition.
  5. While coach daddy does not go out of his way to sugar-coat things and is usually not the most optimistic poster on this forum, he may have a point about UND's recruiting tactics. I can't think of any prominent DI programs, or consistently successful mid-major ones, that heavily recruit eastern ND and Northwest MN. We've had a ton of success with these girls over the years, and it should continue to be the base of our efforts, but I think the coaching staff needs to branch out and expand their recruiting strategies in order for this DI move to be successful. I think the return of Travis Brewster will help with that alot. I don't mean to pick on WBB, because every program at UND will need to re-evaluated their recruiting strategies, and they all should have started about 2 classes ago.

  8. Here's the bracket for the DII playoffs. There are 4 former NCC schools in the field: UNO, Central Washington, UM-Duluth, and Minnesota St.
  9. A post over on AGS indicates that North Dakota will play Lamar in 2010. Lamar discontinued it's football program in 1990, and is in the process of resurrecting it. 2010 will be the programs first season of play. Good chance this would be a home game in 2010.

  17. @ UND Audio UMKC Video & Audio---$9.95 Summit League Video---$4.95 UMKC Website UMKC Message Board Key Players for the Kangaroos Dane Brumagin: 6'4" Sr. Guard, 17.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, .451 3pt %, Preseason All-Summit League 1st Team Reggie Hamilton: 6'0" So. Guard, 11.7 ppg, 3.3 apg UMKC finished the season 11-21 last season, and have been picked to finish 6th in the Summit League preseason poll this year. They are a young team with just one Senior. Focus alot on outside shooting, as they don't really have an established inside player. Their Head Coach is entering is 2nd season at the helm. This should be a good first test for the Sioux. On paper, UND seems to match up well with UMKC, size-wise and experience-wise. This will probably be one of the few DI opponents we face this year where UND will actually have a size and experience advantage in the low post. It looks like it could be a close and entertaining game.
  18. Eh.......I'm a firm believer in playing the guy that gives you the best chance to win the next game. I think Freund is that guy. I don't think Freund's play has been the cause of any of the losses this season, despite the less productive offensive numbers over the past three games. As far as getting Landry game experience for next year, that probably should have been done earlier in the season when we had some wins by a large margin by getting him into those games earlier. And as a big fan of Freund, I don't think it would be fair to do that to a senior QB in his last game just to get the next guy a little game experience for the following season. Also, I don't see a huge benefit in a guy getting to take some game snaps on a few series 9 months before the next game. Freund also played very sparingly in his sophomore season when everyone knew he would be taking over the reigns as a junior. And guys, please don't use the Purple as an analogy when discussing my beloved Fighting Sioux. Go Patriots!!!
  19. Congrats to Josh Murray, as he surpassed the the 1,000 yard mark this weekend. He is leading the conference in rushing by over 500 yards.
  20. Unfortunately, I'm thinking it will be an away game. Assuming the inverse of their conference schedule this year, and their known OOC games reported at AGS, Stephen F. Austin already has 6 away games scheduled. On another note, I still can't figure out why USD is travelling back to Cal Poly next year, and UND apparently to UC Davis for consecutive years. It really doesn't matter to me all that much, and could actually be beneficial. We could potentially be hosting the defending national champ in the Alerus. I just hope the GWC is straightening out their lop-sided schedule that they've had since its inception. Every team should get two home games and two away.
  21. The NCAA will only allow a maximum of 11 games for 2009. Hopefully UND can do something they haven't been able to for the last two years and fill out a complete schedule and get all 11 games. Again, I'm just speculating about the 2009 schedule, but I'm almost positive that the Weber and SFA games would be home-and-home agreements.
  22. I have no solid info to base this on, but I'd guess they'll both be away games. There is a "rumored" game against Iona. Again, I have no solid info on this, but my guess is that the schedule will look something like this: Sept. 5 @ Texas Tech* Sept. 12 vs. Idaho St.* Sept. 19 @ Northwestern St.* TBA vs. DII Opponent TBA vs. Iona TBA @ Stephen F. Austin* TBA @ Weber St.* TBA vs. Cal Poly* TBA @ UC Davis* TBA @ Southern Utah* TBA vs. South Dakota* *confirmed opponent
