  1. Last night was the first time I watched a home game on nchc tv since I'm out of town and the Ralph/Midco production was night and day better than any stream I've watched this year. The other road series I've watched have been borderline unwatchable with all the buffering and horrible snowy coverage! Last weekend, my feed would pause and buffer every 20-30 seconds for a decent amount of time. It gave me a headache trying to watch.

Someone will take a chance. I'd guess he goes out east.

I'd heard rumors over Christmas that both UNO and Western were trying to bring him in for second semester which obviously didn't come to fruition.

I'm going to zag a little when looking at the roster and where I believe a bigger issue is that doesn't really get mentioned. Forward depth. Completely understanding that different players play different rolls, but I'm not sure what two of these three bring. Albrecht should be an emergency guy, only playing when there's nobody else. Him playing 12 games is concerning. What's Budy's roll? If he's supposed to bring offense, then there's an issue (1 point on the year). Ness is flat out not a D1 player (2 points on the year). You have 3 forward spots tied up with guys that bring nothing offensively and really aren't that great defensively either. I mentioned it in the Cornell thread, but there's 5 guys that signed NLI's. They need those 5 to come in. With only 3 Seniors, most likely nobody leaving early, you need to have a couple guys transfer out.

Agreed cruel but unfortunately true and you didn't even mention the forward that looks the most out of place on this roster (given he wasn't suppose to be here this year).

I guess. I’m just underwhelmed with this team lately. Ugh.

Honestly I have been thinking the same thing all year. I don't think he is at the level he was at the end of last year. In that marathon regional final, it looked like he could have played the entire game getting better as the game went on and should have ended it multiple times. To me this season he seems like he doesn't have the same stamina. Obviously an enormous talent but I was hoping he would be able to control the game much better like Perunovich did for UMD. He does it in spurts but not nearly as consistently as Perunovich did.

Just hoping for no more Sanderson injuries/illnesses in the 2nd half.
The boys have done well in the times that he's been out of the lineup, but we'll need him if UND wants to make a postseason run.

And also hoping he comes back on a mission like he did after the World Juniors last year. He was night and day better the second half last year compared to how he looked in his limited time in the bubble.

Really? So, that was like 18 months+ ago?! That makes A LOT more sense and fills the blanks with Siouxforce's question. Time is irrelevant lolol.

From what I've heard, Rizzo's decommitment caught the staff off guard. They weren't expecting it even after asking him to play another year of juniors.

I think we can both agree Sandy does more with less then hak or berry ever did

Berry I would agree with but to say he does more than Hak did is downright comical! Hak took some teams to the Frozen Four and Final Five Conference Championships that had no business talentwise (injury wise) being anywhere close to that. And how did Sandy do with less his first 10 or so seasons? Yes he's been great these past 5-6 years but a lot of the UMD alumni wanted him gone before 2011 occurred.

Boy I sure hope Johnson is hurt....tough to be sitting considering we could have just brought in Morrow and he wouldn't have bolted. Curious what the deal with Budy is...didn't he play top 6 at times last year?

This has me confused as well. I really thought he was slated to play wing with Ford and Calder once healthy and Senden was just the filler there until he returned. I'm wondering if he just isn't fully healthy as of yet as I was hoping he was going to be one of the forwards stepping up to help out the scoring this year.

Oliver Moore....still uncommitted.  We need him. I'd put top $ he goes Big10, but it would be nice to get a kid like that.

Do you have any insight on the othe U17 Sawchyn I'm assuming we should be in on?

  10. Was just lookng at Heisenberg's recruiting website to look up Thomas and noticed that Halliday is still uncommitted. Anyone else find that odd? Is his skating that bad that he still hasn't been picked up? Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about him lately? Seems to really have fallen in the past few years.

    Budy with Ford Caulder

Jamernik with Hain centered by Senden

    Constantine Portz Kunz looked OK

    Schmaltz centers Judd and Gaber

Not sure where Neas fits....maybe for Kunz

That is what I would think. In my opinion, I thought Kunz looked the furthest behind and a step (or two) slow on saturday. I think he's got a ways to go to solidfy himself as a regular.

Some thoughts from last nights game:

    - fairly sloppy game on both ends of the ice, passing/playmaking was atrocious, D coverage (both O and D) was brutal at times

    - Sanderson will need some help, he’s a great skater but this isn’t squirts, he’ll need to zing it around a bit.

    - Down the middle we look a bit weak. I didn’t look up official stats but every time I was paying attention we seemed to lose draws.

    - on a more positive note, that Jandric kid looks really skilled/deceptive. Not sure if he was the one out of place all the time but really like his skill set. Should be fun to watch this year. Driscoll didn’t get tested a ton, but when he did it was beyond a Grade A, he looked as good as advertised.

overall it was game one. Get budy in there as well as Moore and the skill goes up a bit. Really miss Weatherby down the middle.

I agree with your take. I hope they really emphasize the play just inside and outside both bluelines this week. Tons of turnovers in these areas on both sides of the ice. Lots of times tonight I saw the puck either needing to be dumped in or banged out and instead we tried to get cute and turned it over.

As far as Jandric, I agree he looks like he could be a good one. I made mention that he was really confident with the puck and will only get better game by game. Remember he hasn't played a game in something like 18 months.

Driscoll looked really good. Solid positionally and ate up a lot of pucks with great rebound controll.

Lastly, this is going to be a team that struggles to score like most of us predicted. I think if we get 3 we have a chance to win most games but I'm not sure how often we are going to get there.

Any guesses on line combos for Saturday?

    I'll throw mine out.

    Schmaltz-Ford-Gaber

    Budy-Calder-Caulfield

    Hain-Senden-Portz

    Kunz-Jamernik-Ness

    Montgomery-Costantini-Albrecht

    Sanderson-Frisch

    Kleven-Jandric

    Moore-Johnson

    Bast-Ferner

    Driscoll

    Hellsten

    Feeney

    Johnson

Just listened to Berry's press conference and he said both Schmaltz and Constantini are playing center to start. I would think that would leave Ford and Senden as the other two centers with maybe Jamernik playing wing with the Senden line?

If one were to jump, Jackson would be my suspicion given he spent a cup of coffee with Vancouver (NHL).

Remember they both were offered to go to Philly with him as well. I don't think Berry is going anywhere. Jax would be more likely but I think his family wants to stay in GF which is why he didn't go with Hak initially.

Jakob Hellsten seems like a good add. Nice work bubs and co.

Interesting find this late in the game and in the world we currently live in. Wonder if they have someone they trust over that has seen him play as I can't imagine the staff was able to see him live much if at all recently.

    I just checked.

WMU finished 6-7-0 vs top 5 teams

Other teams in the NCHC vs top 5 teams

St. Cloud - 6-4-0 (7-5-0 including NCAA tournament)

    UMD - 2-6-1 (3-7-1 including NCAA tournament)

    UND - 3-1-1  (3-2-1 including NCAA tournament)

    Omaha - 3-6-1

    Denver - 2-9-0

    Miami - 1-12-0

    CC - 2-7-0

I'm not saying that WMU should have been a top 5 team, but there is a enough talent on this team to beat top teams night after night.  The consistency wasn't there due to goalie problems and a huge freshman class, but everyone should be older and theoretically they'll be playing more like they did at the end of the year when they went 8-4-1 rather than at the beginning of the year when they went 2-8-2.

If not I would like to get some of that potion!

Where were any of them but Cates going to go?   I suppose Roth could play somewhere, but another year before going to Europe isn't going to make or break him.

Exactly! They kept 4 seniors that have little to no pro-level potential (nhl/ahl). It's not like Sandy talked them out of any contracts more so just saying he would gladly take them back for another year with the losses they had.

Were Pinto and JBD's one way? That was never made clear. I suppose capfriendly would know.

They can't sign one way deals at their ages. Most/if not all entry level deals are two way.
