Hopefully "insurance" means one year rental ("1A" option) behind Hobie and Heil is ready to come in fall of '25.

Not many goalies come into college hockey at 18 and have success. I would be surprised if we bring in Heil in the fall of 25 but it sure looks like that is the plan as of now.

I'd assume Persson will stay for another year...he has one more year of eligibility remaining after this current season.
Persson and Hobie tandem for one more year.

I thought so too but the article you quote above makes me wonder about this now with him being honored this weekend. No other choice but to hit the portal again if he doesn't come back.

Makes sense to me. Gaber needs a skilled center man to get him the puck (checkmark for Berg) and a wide body with some wheels to keep up and set screens (Johannes is excellent but Kunz is good too).  And linemates to go after rebounds.

(I'm not arguing against a higher profile role for Perron, who shows flashes of genius every week.   I like Perron on a different line from Gaber since he will get more chances to play on the puck, and set up / shoot.)

I'm assuming you mean on the setting screens part certainly not the wheels? And as for the reason why Kunz and not Perron, I can answer this based on Berry's history. I can almost guarantee he will say because if you move Perron that would mean changing 3 of the 4 lines rather than just 2 with the Kunz move.

I'd love to see the 5th centering Perron and Strinden on the 3rd line. Strinden just makes plays.

Yeah I wouldn't mind this and have been saying these two have been held back a bit by their line combos. Strinden could even still center and Jammer could play wing. You could maybe even try Kunz with Strinden and Perron but he is just such a poor skater that he would be left behind by those two.  Schmaltz is a great team guy, PK'er and defensively responsible center but has very little offensive upside. He fits the 4th line center role more so than Strinden but like someone mentioned(Oxbow I think it may have been you) a while back when I was giving my take on lines that no way Berry moves Schmaltz to the 4th line even though that is where he fits in this lineup now.

Yeah like you mentioned, some of these guys need to realize that some patience is needed in their development. Panzer and Littler might be two guys that would get a lot more playing time with one more USHL season, so if they come in you hope that they stick with it and earn their playing time.

For Emerson, he hasn’t played a ton…but from what we’ve seen so far, I doubt he’d be seeing significant playing time at any NCAA program. But give him a year or two and that could be a different story. But he wasn’t willing to be patient with his development.

My feeling all along was we see five forwards leave (Gaber, Jammer, Johannes, Ness and Albrecht) and five come in (Boisvert, Swanson, Croal, Panzer and Littler). I would think this opens the door for a portal forward unless they believe Zellers is ready but I think he plays a year of juniors before he comes in which was the original plan for him.

And then the officiating crew doesn’t know the rules of icing.

That blown icing call with 6 seconds left really screwed over Finland if you think about it. Had the official gotten it right and waited to blow his whistle until after the puck had crossed the far red line, then there probably would’ve been 4 maybe 5 ticks left on the clock and an offensive zone faceoff for Finland. Instead, the officials huddle and determine they messed up so they do a center ice faceoff with 6 seconds to play. You ask the Finns what they would’ve rather had-a center ice faceoff with 6 seconds or an O zone faceoff with 4 or 5 seconds.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy the U.S. won the game but I hate seeing bad calls/missed calls that could potentially affect the outcome.

The game should have been over either way as the Finland player touched the puck before it crossed the goal line so icing should have been waved off anyway. They would have had to turn and go 200 feet in 6 seconds. No chance. In hindsight, the blown icing call and faceoff moved to center ice actually gave Finland a better chance than they should have had.

Gaber and Blake will get split or get a new center is my guess to start although I like everything you have here. Thing I agree with most is giving James and Strinden a shot with Perron. What absolutely won't think will happen is Schmaltz.  He seems to get a little of the Hain/Senden treatment. He'll play top line tomorrow before he centers 4th line.

Yes I agree with you on the Schmaltz comment and it not likely to happen centering the fourth line. I wasn't crazy about that line but I ran out of options as I like the first three I put together. I just think James and Strinden need a shot playing together and with another talented forward in Perron as they have been our best two forwards recently in my mind.

  8. My two cents on lines I'd like to see given a shot this weekend:

    Gaber-OMC-Blake

James-Strinden-Perron (I think both James and Strinden have been held back a bit and could thrive playing together and using their speed along with Perron)

Johannes-Berg-Jamernik (Line that could matchup against any teams top line and also provide offense)

    Kunz-Schmaltz-Albrecht

I’ve heard the name before but don’t know much about him.

How about Cooper Siegert from Shakopee? I've been checking Shakopee boxscores since that is where Cooper Simpson is back playing and noticed he is scoring at a similar rate to Simpson and is only a sophomore.

Does anyone have any info on what direction the two F/M dmen from the NTDP might be leaning?  Lindberg and Kuehne.
We have a good group of incoming dmen, but hate to lose out on those local ND boys, especially when they are high skill.

I heard quite a while back that Lindberg was down to UND and DU so I'm a little surprised he hasn't committed anywhere yet. I get the feeling the longer he takes the more likely he chooses DU but don't have any inside knowledge.

How about information on another Bluu Chippa…

Right this is the wrong thread for this question, but has anyone heard anything new on Lindberg? He's apparently been down to UND and DU for quite a while so anyone in the know of this situation? I feel like the longer this goes along the more likely he picks DU. Just a feeling.

Letting relatives know first I suppose.  Truly sad.  It is why I cringe every time I see head over heel celebrations in hockey hogpiles when celebrating.  That needs to be stopped at all levels, as they are basically wearing weapons on their feet.  Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Unfortunately I can verify that it's true.

Let my preface my comment by saying I'm a big fan of Schmaltz but I'll again repeat he's a center not a wing. His offensive upside isn't fit for a 2nd line winger. He's a college coach's dream as a 3nd line centerman with good 2 way wingers. Then you have a top 9.

This 100%. He is responsible in the D zone with limited offensive upside. They need to give James a shot with OMac and Blake. I think Albrecht or Strinden would fit in well with Jamernik and Johannes.

It looked like we ran out of gas last night, happened lots of times last year also. Maybe time to rethink the training plan. Just my take.

Agree with this take as well. It seemed like we gave everything we had in the first and then had nothing left the last two periods. Sure hope that isn't the case or that's a scary proposition! Everything came so easy for Minnesota after the first. We had no forecheck and they broke the puck out with ease and fluidity. Never made it hard on their defencemen.

Can we all agree Schmaltz is a center? McLaughlin and Blake need Johannes to give some physical presence along with skill. I like James as an option there too. 3rd line is Schmaltz centering Strinden and Johannes/James. The V centers 4th line with 29 and 13. Was expecting more from the top line. I thought Berg was terrific vs WI. Last night....meh. That line will be better tonight. Emerson looked good with his limited shifts. Defensively considering UM speed and skill they played well overall. 32 is as good as advertised. This team is put together much better than the last couple seasons. Berry has no excuses if this group misses the NCAAs. The PP....more shots and less passing.

100% on this and he really never was one with a ton of offensive skill/upside which is why I was surprised they were trying him as wing when you have James ready for that slot. I've said this to a few people this summer/fall Schmaltz is a solid third line center on a good team who can kill penalties and maybe even matchup against other teams top lines. Don't force him into what he isn't.

We already have 3 defensemen scheduled to come in next year to replace the 3 we have that are out of eligibility. And I don’t think any of them are going to be playing another year of junior. Emery, Strathmann won’t be. Jubenvil ages out. So we’d have to make room for a ninth D unless there’s an unexpected departure.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Gruba, and would like him at UND, but just curious how we’d make room.

Oh yeah you're right. I don't know why I was thinking we would be losing 4 and not 3. And yes those 3 are definitely not playing another year of juniors. I'm guessing we probably aren't in then as we don't have room.

Boy Bubs and team needs to lock up Leo Gruba before he heads to the goofs

This is one I was wondering if we would have any interest in? Older so would need to come in next year but I would think we could certainly make room with a few guys probably playing another year of juniors. And I just noticed that Heisenberg has Ausmus crossed out for us now? Anyone confirm he is no longer a commit?

I wish they would just ditch this idea. We've tried the white out and green outs before and our crowd just has never caught on. Sure there will be probably 70% wearing green but it will never be like those NHL arenas where literally everyone is doing it.

You could've put anything behind "Fighting" and it would've won: Go Fighting Haberdashers!

The new hawk-only secondary is an improvement.

100% correct. I've said this all along. The "Fighting" definitely swung the vote but not like there was a good option. They all sucked!
