  1. yeah numbers wise he didnt do anything the first 2/3 of the season but at the tail end he showed his skills, i see him centering oshie and duncs if trupp doesnt as well...........vande will have a very solid year

I don't see VandeVelde playing with Osh and Duncs next year unless he plays wing because I believe everyone is looking at this in the wrong context. I would be willing to bet that Osh centers Duncs and someone else. He has played center pretty much all his life until college where he was put on a line with two pretty naturally gifted two-way players in Zajac and Toews. I would be extremely surprised if Osh doesn't atleast start out the year as the center on the top line.

  2. By the looks of it now, the main objective is to get David Toews and then worry about battling it out for the 09 guys. I don't believe there is room for anymore forwards in 08 but maybe a defenseman or two. Does anyone know if David would be a for sure 08 (I would guess yes) or if there is a chance he would play a year of juniors?

  3. Here's to hoping we lose one Toews and gain one in the same week. I have had a feeling they might pull a fast one on us and David was waiting to commit after his brother officially left to put out the fire a little bit. Don't have any inside info but I can hope right.

  4. In Nick's case, it could be more general attention, especially if he's the next recruit to commit. I forgot about Budish, you can add him to the list. He's also considering SCSU. I just have a feeling Budish could commit later than the other guys mentioned.

Any word on where Landman is leaning? He seems like he should be a kid mentioned in the same breath as the other guys you have named.

  5. How about the looks of our 09 class so far

    Kristo- Eden Praire

    Gleason- Edina

    Fink- Hopkins

Wasn't there an argument on this board a while back when Jackson was hired as the new assistant that three Canadian coaches would have a hard time recruiting the Minnesota boys from the Goofs.

  6. I don't think this has been talked about at all but since Mario Lamoureux re-opened his recruitment and plans to play in the USHL again next year does anyone know or think that he may become a Fighting Sioux now or are we out of room for him.

  7. How bout the other 2 we have coming in next year? Those 2 being LaPoint and Marto.

I know about those two but that will still leave us only with Lapoint, Genoway, Marto, Jones with experience coming back in 08 with Blood coming. Thats only five d-men and most teams like to carry 8. Gleason is slated to come in 09 but will probably have to move to 08 if we don't find a few others. Also, Marto will more than likely be a second year freshman in 08 unless we have early departures this summer that cause him to see significant playing time this year.

  8. Anybody know of any D recruits we are looking at for the 08 season as it looks like we will be losing quite a few d-men next season (Chorney, Bina, Lee, Finley if they are even around this year that being Lee and Finley). I know we have Blood lined up for 08 and possibly 07 if need be and Gleason for 09 or 08 if need be but I am thinking we are going to need a few more.

  9. Yeah, warm Yukon Jack after a gut full of beer is just asking for trouble. And playing a drinking game to the song "Roxanne" was not good as well. I think Siouxnami witnessed the whole thing as well (if I know my SS people). Did not make it to the Sioux vs. Michigan game that night. :silly:

Its been over a year since this happened but it is pretty funny now that you guys bring this up because I was also at Dagwoods that night-day and just happened to get a little puke on me due to a Gopher fan and now I know it was FIRE HELMET BUY. Small world and pretty funny after the fact. I do remember the looks of that bathroom as well.

  10. My gut feeling on Nash and the reason why his decision is taking so long is I believe that he is waiting to see what kind of financial aid package he is going to receive at Cornell. If it is what he expects, I think he heads out east and joins his brother at Cornell next season. I don't have any inside info. or anything but that is just my guess on why his decision is taking so long.

  11. I am assuming that he will be an 08. I would guess that if we get Nash that 1 or 2 of our recruits would be playing another year of juniors (Bruneteau, Frattin or Hextall) depending on early departures. If early departures occur and we don't land Nash, I'd say two for sure if not all three make it on campus next fall. Maybe this was Bishops scholarship. Thoughts?

  12. This might be a dumb question but I've been wondering this for a while now with the Sioux tying both Mankato and UMD. Do those two ties pretty much equal a loss when it comes to Pairwise ananlysis? In other words, will two ties equal one loss when it comes to the Pairwise or 2 wins and 2 ties better than having 3 wins and a loss. Like I said it might be a dumb question but I was wondering if anyone knows.

  13. How do you guys foresee the lines this weekend? I would assume Toews returns with Osh and Duncan, the frosh line stays in tact and the Watkins-Porter-Kozek line stays in tact with Miller moving down to play with Fabian and Kaip.

  14. For the last time, I said if I remember correctly: Greico is inconsistent and it will cost the team a game down the line. I said this after the SCSU and Mankato Series. And guess what happened? He took a dump on the ice in his very next period. So Yes I was being "negative" but guess what I was right. And instead if you admitting I was right you come back and start saying I'm not a Sioux fan.

Also do you think the fact the Sioux keep recruiting younger and younger players has anything to with the team being inconsistent? Well if you don't you need to wake up. Why did they rush Finley in here? Why not let him play juniors for 2 years? Whats the hurry on Greico? Let him play juniors for a year or two and maybe he would have developt more consistency.

The Sioux are now a "rebuilding team". Why is this exceptable to you guys as Sioux fans? I can't stand it. I hate the gophers and it pains me to say this but the Gophers are now the one's "reloading" . I'm sorry but they would have had a player of Finley or Greico calaber, (if they would have even would have recruited them in the first place) play a year or two of juniors instead of rushing them into the system. A few years ago they offered Ben Gordan a scholorship if he played a few years of juniors. if they would have rushed him in he would have struggled for two years and lost two years of eligibility, instead he played for lincoln and he limited his growing pains. It's sad but true, bringing in 17 year olds is not a good idea unless their name is Jonathon Toews.

For your information, Finley was recruited by the Gophers as well. He was choosing between the Sioux and the Gophers last year and decided on the Sioux. I am not sure if it was because North Dakota was going to bring him in right a way or not but the Gophers did recruit and offer him a scholarship. Also Ben Gordon went to the Gophers straight from high school if I recall correctly and the only time he played juniors was before and after the high school season.

  15. Now that we have quite a few forwards lined up for the next few years I think we need to get a defenseman or two. I am hoping we can land Blood for the simple fact that the two D coming in next year are offensively skilled and not the big bruising type. This is why I think Blood would be a great pickup for 08 because we will need a big bruiser to go along with the skilled defenseman. Thoughts?

  16. I see on that site that it says he is not sure if he is going to come next year or the year after. He says it depends on how much he improves this year. What are everyones thoughts on this? Do you think the staff is leaving open the option of getting another blue-chip forward for next year (Gregoire, Nash) and then having Bruneteau come in 08. That would be one heck of a start to the 08 class with him and Cichy.

  17. In case you haven't read this site yet, www.westerncollegehockey.blogspot.com, they have a brief description of uncommitted fowards. The top three uncommitted fowards are Nash, Brutenau, and Gregoire. According to the site, Brutenau has narrowed his choices down to Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, CC, Denver, and UNO. It also says he has offers from Michigan, CC, and Denver, so it looks like he will go to one of those three. Nash has his choices down to Cornell, Michigan, Denver, New Hampshire, and North Dakota. The promising news is that the blog does say that Gregoire will probably commit to North Dakota. Chuck has mentioned a few Wisconsin kids, those being Justin Johnson and Travis Erstad. The blog says that both have recieved interest from North Dakota. It also says that Chris Rawlings, who is a goalie and plays for Salmon Arm has recieved interest from North Dakota, so he could be on the radar for 07 or 08.

Just to let you know. That info has been on that site for quite a while and doesn't get updated too often. Not many on this board had any idea about Bruneteau until Chuck informed us that we have an offer out to him.
