  1. I can see playing the dump and chase on occasion, but fighting for the puck than hitting the redline and giving it up, Not the best play. At least if your going to dump it in ring it around the board so the opponent isn't given the time to set up and run the flying V on us.

Every team dumps and chases during a game. It's just the way hockey is played. You don't want to turn the puck over at any line especially late in a game. And there are certainly strategic ways to dump the puck. I just don't get the assumption around here that we dump and chase every chance we get.

  2. I think they need to get away from always using the dump and chase play. Maybe Berry will do this and bring home the "Banner."

I love this statement. Way too many people on here make it sound like Hak's system was hit the redline and dump it even if you have an odd-man rush. Would we prefer to have our players try and stick handle through everyone and have a million turnovers each game leading to odd-man's the other way to get away from ever dumping the puck?

  3. Why not? There's always room for the best players.

I just don't see how Fabbro ever could come in next year. There is just no room on D especially if Schmaltz decides to come back. I think it is simply we'd love to have you both but next year.

  4. Agreed, not an exciting pick, but it makes sense, and the guys certainly has experience. I always liked Hak, but I do hope that with a new coach we can get a new look on the powerplay, because I always though that was one area where Haks system struggled.

We'll see, should be an interesting week or so, until they make an annoncement.

Take a guess who was in charge of the PP?

  5. Some talented freshmen forwards coming in, to be sure, but not much in the way of returning goal scoring up front.  By my count, less than 40 goals scored by the returning forwards, without Drake, and 8 of those were Poolman who could find himself back on defense next season.  Contrast that to last year where our forwards started this past season having scored over 70 goals the year before.

Without Drake, this is what it looks like:

Nick Schmaltz   5 goals last year

Luke Johnson 8 goals last year

Tucker Poolman 8 goals last year (maybe moved to defense

Austin Poganski 4 goals last year

Bryn Chyzyk 7 goals last year

Colten St. Clair 3 goals last year

Trevor Olson 3 goals last year

Sanderson, Simonson and Murphy all with 0 career goals.

I like our incoming class, but I don't remember many teams where our returning forwards had this few goals scored the year before.

You can get rid of that maybe. Tucker Poolman will be playing D next year even if all underclass D return and he will be very good at that.

  6. We don't have a good shot at Mathews

He likes to win big games

So by process of elimination then he must be either going to BC or the CHL by your reasoning since BU, Denver, Wisconsin and UND don't win big games. Maybe Providence has been added to his list?

  7. Kind of a blessing/curse. If there was no 3rd place game, the Huskies could lose on Friday and still have a .500 record with a decent shot at an at-large bid. Instead, they'd now HAVE to win the third place game with a GREAT shot at an at-large bid. Actually, they could technically tie the 3rd place game and still have a decent shot. They're going to need (somebody like) Jim Dahl's help to determine whether to preserve a tie or go all-out for an overtime win if it shakes out that way.

That could be one interesting scenario if it happens. I never thought of that.

  8. I'm bored. Who steps up this weekend? Is it a senior leader or a young guy?

Gordy is the easy call, but I'm gonna say Chyz has a big series. Haven't heard a lot from him lately.

I'd agree with your Chyz call if he moves up and plays on the LJ-Schmaltz line instead of Pattyn but if he stays where he is at I don't see it. This just seems like an obvious switch to me. I don't get why they keep putting Pattyn on a scoring line. Chyz-Schmaltz-LJ and Pattyn-St Clair-Olson looks better to me.

  9. I'm surprised to see him have Jordan Schmaltz on the first team and Paul LaDue on the second. Don't get me wrong they are both nice players, but it almost seems he is putting them on those teams based on previous play/reputation and not this years play. I have Stecher ahead of both but maybe him missing games hurt him. Not sure he has seen a lot of Sioux games after seeing his list other than Zane being POY.

  10. I'd rather see Chyzyk on the 2nd line and stick with Pattyn with Olson and St.Clair, every one of those guys work their asses off and it looked like Olson was turning into a beast

After watching Through These Doors, it looks like they practiced with lines of Poolman-Caggulia-Parks, Pattyn-Schmaltz-Johnson, Chyzyk-St Clair-Olson, OD-Gaader-Poganski. I have to agree with you in that I would like to see Pattyn and Chyzyk switched.

  11. Anyone remember/know when the tickets will be mailed? I still haven't received mine and debating contacting them.

I contacted my Target Center contact yesterday (who previously told me the tickets would be mailed out Friday Feb 20th at the latest) and she said the tickets are still on her desk and she plans to get them mailed out today or tomorrow. Not real organized and annoying to me since I have a suite and need to distribute 22 tickets. I don't understand why they weren't mailed out a month ago.

  12. I want to start planning my television priorities well in advance, so any help in completing this information if anybody can find which matches up with which would be much appreciated!

    March 27th central times 1:00 & 4:30 March 28th 4:30= NE or West?

    March 27th central times 3:30 & 7:00 March 28th 8:00= NE or West?

    March 28th central times 2:00 & 5:30 March 29th 4:00= East or MW?

    March 28th central times 3:00 & 6:30 March 29th 6:30= East or MW?

    Thanks!

I don't think any of that will be known until selection Sunday March 22nd when they know which teams will be going where. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

  13. I would say Mishmash, Pratt of SSM and Jost and Fabbro are the ones to keep an eye on. Not sure how likely we are to get any but I figured they would have made a decision by now. Maybe Jost and Fabbro are doing the Seth Jone's approach and not going to commit to a college just to go major junior after.

  14. Sounds like our game wasn't the only poor spot for NCHC officiating tonight.

You got that right. I flipped on the Miami-CC game when I got home after the Sioux game last night and CC had a third period game-tying goal waved off by a phantom goalie interference call. The CC announcer pretty much went off on the reffing in the league the rest of the broadcast. It was a terrible no goal call. Worse than the no goal call in the Sioux game.

  15. I think so I have seen some say he is another kid who might be deciding between Minnesota and UND. He does follow both the Minnesota and UND hockey accounts on Twitter and those look to be the only two teams he follows.

Austin Pratt is another one to keep an eye on. He is a SSM 1999 that was rumored when he visited before Christmas to possibly be re-opening the door back to SSM.

  16. Happy to say I was wrong! I had a feeling the longer he held out and didn't follow his linemates to Minny there was a chance he commits here and sure enough it happened. I know Hak and the staff put a ton of time into recruiting him and getting him here. A big recruiting win for the staff!

  17. Any of the sioux prospects besides bowen at EGF have a solid shot at making the MN state tourney?

Kierstad at Elk River should make it out of section 7AA as they are the heavy favorites possibly beating Mattson and Grand Rapids in the final.

Looks like Snake beat me to it.

  18. Anyone think it's a good sign that Boeser still hasn't committed anywhere (Minnesota) yet? I figured with his Minnesota visit a week and a half ago that he would have committed there sometime last week. I've been saying all along he is Minny bound but maybe this is a sign he is really thinking about coming here.

  19. BC the odds on favorite at 4/1? I feel like Vegas is remembering too many of the past BC teams.

Denver at 50/1 wouldn't be ridiculous... worth putting $5 on at least

Of course, UND at 5/1 would be a lock though :)

EDIT: Just realized Minesota is 5/2, whaatttt?!

How about Omaha at 50/1 as well? I like that bet better than Denver although both wouldn't be bad bets at those odds.

  20. FYI just booked my room through priceline 'name your own price'. Chose dowtown minneapolis, 4 star hotel, and it was accepted at $65/night at the Marriot City Center which is a couple of blocks from the Target Center.

I've never used priceline name your own price before. Can you still cancel these rooms if your offer is accepted?

  21. Unless they trade Subban.  It could be that they brought up Subban now to showcase him and see if they can get any takers.  Chiarelli is looking make a trade soon here for the stretch run.  If Subban gets dealt, that makes Zane all that more important to the Bruins.

If I had to guess, I would say it is much more likely that they trade Zane than Subban. Also, I think the biggest risk for Zane leaving is the fact that he can become a free agent after 7/1/15 (or is it 8/1/15) and sign with another team. That is probably his best option since Rask will be in the Bruins net for the foreseeable future.
